A word from The Standard Grill
A neighborhood staple, The Standard Grill is classic New York meets new American cuisine. The front café, bar and street-side bistro is clean and bright with white oak and tile décor and features fresh oysters, specialty cocktails and charcuterie. The main dining room is cozy, old-world with red leather banquets, barrel vaulted ceilings, and a floor paved in copper pennies. The Standard Grill utilizes the freshest local ingredients, blending traditional steak house with new American grill sensibilities.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Deafening inside. Drinks tasted amateurishly assembled. When seated, service from the waitress was good, but the order took nearly 40 minutes to fill. The manager comped our drinks, but by then we were kind of exhausted by the noise in the dining room which spilled out from the bar. Would not go back. The food was hearty and good, but it was hard to enjoy it when it came so late."

  • "The food here at the Standard Grill was very good. I had the almond crusted french toast for brunch and it was delicious. However, the service was subpar. Our waiter was very rude and because we were younger girls treated us as annoying."

  • "I'm just discovering Andre Balazs' genius for creating hip, original environments to hang out and dine in, and his knack for collaborating with chefs who do interesting , creative food. Well done!"

  • "I go here often with friends for Sunday brunch and it never disappoints. The oysters are phenomenal and a must have."

  • "Our group had a baby & stroller, so they were able to accomodate us outside at a larger seating area for 6 even though there were only 4 which was very much appreciated! We did have to wait about 20 minutes past our reservation time to be seated, but it was pleasant in the bar area where we were seated and having drinks, so did not mind too much. Food was AMAZING."

  • "I have been to The Standard Grill many times and have never been disappointed. Food was great. Service was excellent. I would highly recommend! And oh those pennies."

  • "Had a late night dinner with another couple. The waiter and the whole dining experience was great. My only recommendation would be to warm the bread they have. It would make it so much better. Overall great time"

  • "Two blocks from home and always a reliable favorite whether for our wedding dinner in April or catching up with my partner's college friends the other night. Unhurried, great service and excellent food. Wine steward is from Oregon which is a plus this native Oregonian but really he knows his stuff. We keep coming back!"

  • "Fun, vibrant restaurant that is an anchor of the trendy meatpacking neighborhood. Food is prepared flawlessly and conveyed to the table by an accomplished and attentive wait staff. Grilled octopus starter was the best I've ever had, inclusive of restaurants in the Mediterranean. Berkshire pork chop was also a gastronomic tour de force. All this with beautifully decorated dining rooms and outside seating."

  • "I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by how well the food was prepared, the Bloody Marys were great, the service was excellent and the ambience was superb. We ate outside on a beautfiul Saturday and the restaurant was perfect----- I would also recommend a reservation , though New Yorkers seem to like to wait in line, I don't---------- make a reservation"

  • "Always a scene - great drinks, great service and good food (except the lamb chop and rib entree had little/no meat and was tasty, but disappointing) - especially when you get to watch the drunk wannabes stumble out of Beer Garden and fall on the sidewalk."

  • "Perfect description for the Standard Grill. Hot spot for 20 somethings and acolytes. Food okay, nothing special. A fun spot for watching Generation X'ers."

  • "The maitre'd was slightly rude, and I couldn't tell if it was because it was loud or if he was annoyed that I was a lone diner and he needed to give up a two-top space. The risotto was scalding hot when it arrived, and then it was fairly bland to taste. The only redeeming factors were the attentive and kind-mannered waitress and the great Txacoli."

  • "I've dined at the Standard Grill at least half dozen times and have never been disappointed. The place is always buzzing, a lively environment with a sophisticated & trendy crowd. The food is always great! Fresh, delicious, beautifully presented and just the right amount. The drink menu is also good. Top pick for seafood lovers. Great for a fun dinner with friends. Also recommend for a relaxed date. Our waiter was knowledgable and attentive. And, the rooftop lounge is a great place for an after dinner cocktail. Always a spot on my top 10 list."

  • "I had a cocktail named Just Say Yes which was very good, also the whole brunch was super. We were 4 people sitting inside, would have been nice to sit outdoors but this was good aswell."

  • "Came here for brunch with a table of 4 and it was an overall great experience. The service was spot on and the food was delicious!! Not to mention the cocktails were very refreshing. I would certainly come back for brunch or dinner in the future."

  • "The food was truly nothing special and the service was terrible. The waiter was barely to be found, it took forever to bring us a glass of wine, i was still working on my appetizer when they brought the main course - totally unacceptable!! Then the waiter dropped some glasses over the candle jar, pieces of glass flew all over the table, in our glasses and on my friend's steak. Very bad experience. Definitely DO NOT recommend and will not return."

  • "The bread service here needs improvement. We sent our mini baguette basket back because the bread was cold and chewy. When the bread came back to our table, it had been microwaved to a toughness that made it impossible to eat. An alternate bread was offered but at this point we decided to decline the bread service all together. We observed many of the other diners were having a difficult time with their mini baguettes..."

  • "Service: I came here for dinner on a Friday night. We had a reservation for 5:30. The rest of my party was running very late, and the hostesses graciously extended our reservation until 6. Food: I tried the branzino and pork chop. Both were delicious, although the portions are a bit small for the price, but that's kind of expected in that neighborhood. Ambiance: The outdoor dining area is lovely, and the entrance to the High Line is just a block away, making it a great spot for an after-dinner stroll"

  • "Went for a late lunch. Sat inside which was very nice. Outside was a scene. Lunch menu has a good selection. Felt special although I only had a turkey blt. Service was prompt and attentive. I try to avoid the Meat Packing District. Too much hype. But this was a nice surprise to find a good place to have a good lunch- nice atmosphere."

  • "always a buzz and a great scene. food was good. service was slow. also, they need to pump more AC into front bar area. hard to get a drink at front bar too with people sitting at bar."

  • "Firstly, I need to say that I love this place. This was my third visit and I was really looking forward to it. So it was really disappointing that the night fell completely flat! This visit did not live up to my previous visits, unfortunately. However, saying that, I will go back and try again when I next visit New York. Everyone deserves to have an off day."

  • "I took my teenage niece to lunch at Standard Grill expecting it to be trendy and good people watching. I found the former but, to my pleasant surprise, also a delicious meal. My niece had the lobster roll with fries, which seems to be the go-to lunch order. Our waiter was humble and appropriate--my only issue was the suggestion/pushing of a trendy juice while we waited for our meal--but several of the other waiters buzzed around in their tartan vests and skirts with ample attitude; part of the people watching, I guess. All in all, we had a comfortable, delicious, and fun lunch followed by pictures in the downstairs Photo Booth and a required walk on the High Line. Happy to play tourist for the day!"

  • "The Standard's ambience is pretty unbeatable. Perfect for summer. The food was fantastic, but the service was less impressive as the night got busier. Felt rushed out."

  • "The wait staff was very attentive and worked as a team. Our courses came promptly and when our oysters were not right they offered to have us try them and switch to our original order. We decided to try the sampler and were very happy. The lamb medallions and belly were absolutely amazing! Some of the best lamb I have ever had including when I was in New Zealand. Overall a fantastic meal and my girlfriend and I will definitely be back when we visit NYC again."

  • "Sixth time at The Standard Grill, each time I get happier. Food is excellent. Decor is perfect. And the staff is exceptionally nice and super friendly and genuine, despite it's location. This is my favorite place to come. Inside or out, both are perfect seating and viewing."

  • "I was really dying to try this restaurant and unfortunately, was disappointed with my entree (swordfish). My husband had the veal chop and it was very rare (even he couldn't eat it). The meat and cheese plate and deserts were very good, however, I was disappointed with our main entrees."

  • "After having made a reservation 2 weeks in advance our party of 6 was stuffed into a small booth and as a remedy to the cramped seating a chair was placed at the end of the booth. I requested a larger table and was told there were none available although I saw two empty tables that would accommodate our party. I was told they were not available. When they were occupied it was by a party of 2 and a party of 5. This was a celebration for my daughter's graduation from college and The Standard Grill's maitre'd had no compassion nor did he care if we were uncomfortable and upset. The food was OK, small portions and overpriced. One saving grace was our waiter - very attentive, friendly and capable."

  • "I love the Standard but their menu has changed for brunch and I have to say that I am disappointed. I was expecting a wonderful meal and when I looked at the menu I was surprised. I was informed that they have a new chef and he has changed the menu. Unfortunately I no longer will have brunch at the Standard as my standard."

  • "I was really pleased to get a lunch reservation at The Standard Grill on a beautiful afternoon. The food was very good but the service was really slow. No apologies until we asked why the wait for our food was so long. Apparently, they were having a food inspection. It didn't seem to slow down the service for the other tables."

  • "Had reservations but still had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. Was seated in the noisy back section but would have preferred the open and bright front section. They no longer have their “Million Dollar Chicken” but chose their “half roasted chicken”. It was good but not worthy of hyperbole. Despite being so busy, service from Sreedevi was very good. She made just an ordinary afternoon a little bit special. The only other things worth noting here are the penny floor and unique bathrooms. I think people come here to people watch or feel cool. Don’t come expecting culinary greatness. We tried it once but probably will not go back given there are so many other better choices out there. "
