Diner Reviews
  • "Kelsey was our server at the outdoor lounge and was excellent. Our reservation was for 2pm and I spoke to the hostess inside at the grill. I let her know we were outside and would be in shortly. She said she would move our reservation to 2.10pm or 2.30pm since we had ordered drinks and appetizers. When we went inside at 2.30pm the new server told us that the dining room was being flipped for dinner. We found this strange as not 30 minutes before it was no problem. It was a special occasion so we chose to stay in main dining area. I ordered a well done NY Strip and had to send back as it was rare on the inside. A manager came over and apologized and they removed from the bill."

  • "This is one of those somewhat pretentious places that attracts a pretty crowd and relies on its location to do the work. Service was just ok- the waitress barely made time on a busy sat night to ask us if everything was ok. The drinks are overpriced but satisfactory; the food was good, but very much a “if you don’t see it in the description, its not on the plate” kind of place. Better than French teeny portions, but nothing “extra” here unless you pay for it. Trendy place under the high line; nice outdoor/sidewalk seating but looking directly at a building, nothing special for a “view”. Overall I would not seek this place out again."

  • "Went with a friend a few weeks back and really enjoyed brunch. So close to the High line. Had to bring my mom. Food is excellent....really enjoyed it. If you go for brunch and you have a sweet tooth, I highly recommend the brioche cinnamon sugar donuts- warm and filled with vanilla rum custard!"

  • "Even though we had a reservation, we were not seated until an hour afterwards. The outdoor bar nextdoor made the wait go by quickly though. Our server was OK. Not overly attentive. Someone in my group found a piece of hard plastic in her food. The manager was awesome and made sure we were taken care of. He went above and beyond what was necessary. The food was amazing. Will definitely be back."

  • "Expected food and service to be better for price charged. Octopus appetizer dry, drinks way overpriced, shrimp cocktail awful(better shrimp from store bought pack), steak good, only 4 scallops with meal and Berkshire pork chop dry. Not type to complain, doubt I'd go back for dinner. Ate there once for lunch and it was very good."

  • "We had a birthday luncheon at the grille and the food and service were both exemplary. No rushing, great suggestions for the server, low noise level, and everything was delish."

  • "It was my 1st time eating at The Standard. I made the reservation specifically because I heard the standard got their steak from Creekstone Farms. Our waiter let me know which steak was from Creekstone farm. We also ordered oysters, 3 cheeses and dessert. Our waiter was amazing and attentive without being annoying. I was able to catch up with 2 friends that I havent seen in awhile and had a delicious meal at the same time. For all the food that we ordered I was expecting our bill to be much higher than it was, but it was about $225 for 3 people. Overall a great experience and the restaurant had a nice ambiance."

  • "From start to finish, our experience was outstanding. We met for drinks at the rooftop bar, and then had dinner at the Standard Grill. We were given our choice of tables, and we selected a bistro table in the bar area. Wine, appetizers, main course, dessert, after dinner drinks… we sampled them all… The only ingredient that rivaled the food was our wonderful waitress, Enza. She was professional, warm and knew her stuff… All her recommendations were excellent… and she was a delight to engage with!!!! After dinner concluded, we walked thru the Beer Garden and were again blown away by the energy and ambiance. This is definitely an experience we will remember for a long time… and plan to revisit soon!!!!"

  • "The hosts were great, the waiter seemed overwhelmed. But there is not a quiet night at this MPD hotspot. It still holds its own with a strong menu and great drinks. The bartenders were fantastic as we had a drink at the crowded bar first. There's a lot of young 'see and be seen' types at SG. But if you get past that and stay in the main dining room for dinner, it's a great experience. We had a dozen oysters and beef tartar to start. The three entrees were all great: Halibut, Salmon and the special Black Bass. Not a quiet night out, but a fun one."

  • "The Standard Grill was fun and lively as always this weekend! The only disappointment was that we were seated indoors as opposed to the garden area outside, but we were next to the bar so it was still a lively and enjoyable experience."

  • "We chose The Standard Grill because it is a great location with great outdoor seating. It was a perfect summer evening and the Meatpacking District was packed with well dressed people. Drinks were great and the food was actually better than I expected. Not a gourmet place, but excellent service in a place with a very cool vibe and great people watching."

  • "Although we felt forgotten once the meal was over, this was a fun restaurant with good food. Lots of attention from our waitress and staff until we were finished then we sat...and sat...and sat waiting for the check and someone to come take my card to pay. I don't like ending a meal feeling like I no longer matter and the % of tip went down the longer I waited. However, the food was great and the atmosphere is fun. I would still recommend this restaurant."

  • "My first visit to The grill - My wife has been there several times during her visit to New York and we should celebrate our 25 year annevercery at The Grill and we had a great eve - with nice food and great eve"

  • "Deafening inside. Drinks tasted amateurishly assembled. When seated, service from the waitress was good, but the order took nearly 40 minutes to fill. The manager comped our drinks, but by then we were kind of exhausted by the noise in the dining room which spilled out from the bar. Would not go back. The food was hearty and good, but it was hard to enjoy it when it came so late."

  • "The food here at the Standard Grill was very good. I had the almond crusted french toast for brunch and it was delicious. However, the service was subpar. Our waiter was very rude and because we were younger girls treated us as annoying."

  • "Our group had a baby & stroller, so they were able to accomodate us outside at a larger seating area for 6 even though there were only 4 which was very much appreciated! We did have to wait about 20 minutes past our reservation time to be seated, but it was pleasant in the bar area where we were seated and having drinks, so did not mind too much. Food was AMAZING."

  • "Had a late night dinner with another couple. The waiter and the whole dining experience was great. My only recommendation would be to warm the bread they have. It would make it so much better. Overall great time"

  • "Two blocks from home and always a reliable favorite whether for our wedding dinner in April or catching up with my partner's college friends the other night. Unhurried, great service and excellent food. Wine steward is from Oregon which is a plus this native Oregonian but really he knows his stuff. We keep coming back!"

  • "Fun, vibrant restaurant that is an anchor of the trendy meatpacking neighborhood. Food is prepared flawlessly and conveyed to the table by an accomplished and attentive wait staff. Grilled octopus starter was the best I've ever had, inclusive of restaurants in the Mediterranean. Berkshire pork chop was also a gastronomic tour de force. All this with beautifully decorated dining rooms and outside seating."

  • "Always a scene - great drinks, great service and good food (except the lamb chop and rib entree had little/no meat and was tasty, but disappointing) - especially when you get to watch the drunk wannabes stumble out of Beer Garden and fall on the sidewalk."

  • "I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by how well the food was prepared, the Bloody Marys were great, the service was excellent and the ambience was superb. We ate outside on a beautfiul Saturday and the restaurant was perfect----- I would also recommend a reservation , though New Yorkers seem to like to wait in line, I don't---------- make a reservation"

  • "The maitre'd was slightly rude, and I couldn't tell if it was because it was loud or if he was annoyed that I was a lone diner and he needed to give up a two-top space. The risotto was scalding hot when it arrived, and then it was fairly bland to taste. The only redeeming factors were the attentive and kind-mannered waitress and the great Txacoli."

  • "The food was truly nothing special and the service was terrible. The waiter was barely to be found, it took forever to bring us a glass of wine, i was still working on my appetizer when they brought the main course - totally unacceptable!! Then the waiter dropped some glasses over the candle jar, pieces of glass flew all over the table, in our glasses and on my friend's steak. Very bad experience. Definitely DO NOT recommend and will not return."

  • "Came here for brunch with a table of 4 and it was an overall great experience. The service was spot on and the food was delicious!! Not to mention the cocktails were very refreshing. I would certainly come back for brunch or dinner in the future."

  • "I've dined at the Standard Grill at least half dozen times and have never been disappointed. The place is always buzzing, a lively environment with a sophisticated & trendy crowd. The food is always great! Fresh, delicious, beautifully presented and just the right amount. The drink menu is also good. Top pick for seafood lovers. Great for a fun dinner with friends. Also recommend for a relaxed date. Our waiter was knowledgable and attentive. And, the rooftop lounge is a great place for an after dinner cocktail. Always a spot on my top 10 list."

  • "The bread service here needs improvement. We sent our mini baguette basket back because the bread was cold and chewy. When the bread came back to our table, it had been microwaved to a toughness that made it impossible to eat. An alternate bread was offered but at this point we decided to decline the bread service all together. We observed many of the other diners were having a difficult time with their mini baguettes..."

  • "Service: I came here for dinner on a Friday night. We had a reservation for 5:30. The rest of my party was running very late, and the hostesses graciously extended our reservation until 6. Food: I tried the branzino and pork chop. Both were delicious, although the portions are a bit small for the price, but that's kind of expected in that neighborhood. Ambiance: The outdoor dining area is lovely, and the entrance to the High Line is just a block away, making it a great spot for an after-dinner stroll"

  • "Went for a late lunch. Sat inside which was very nice. Outside was a scene. Lunch menu has a good selection. Felt special although I only had a turkey blt. Service was prompt and attentive. I try to avoid the Meat Packing District. Too much hype. But this was a nice surprise to find a good place to have a good lunch- nice atmosphere."
