  • "Cant rave about this place but no real complaints either. The short rib app didn't quite live up to the raving reviews I read. My lamb duet dinner was delicious, and my husband loved his scallops. Our dining companions both ordered bone-in filet, which they liked, but the strange sausage sauce and asparagus salad went untouched. A better selection of sides is needed I think. Nothing on the dessert menu appealed to us so we passed. Salads were plenty big for 2 to share. A smaller side salad offering would be nice. May return, but prob would opt for trying another place before we do that."

  • "The Stand was good, but I've had better food. Our server recommended the halibit but it wasn't outstanding. My husband had the bone in filet and he said it was prepared perfectly. The portions were not large which is fine with me as long as the food is outstanding it is wasn't. The table we sat at was in an odd location and someone in our party had to move in whenever the servers came by. I had reservations for over a week."

  • "The menu is very eclectic and I had a difficult time finding something that piqued my interest. The corn chowder is excellent but the honey risotto was very bland and unexciting. The daily special was an 8 oz. steak with morel mushrooms in a lovely sauce and it was very delicious It was delicious though very expensive at $49. There was no salad and two small potatoes which I did not eat. Someone else at our table ordered a fish and he thought it to be delicious as well."

  • "This recommended to me by a coworker who enjoys new and trendy place to entertain friends. I was disappointed as soon as we arrived. Although the restaurant was not busy we were seated at a table in the corner much too large for our party. Our server was rushing us and did not seem to care that our appetizer was not prepared well. The rest of the food was fine, but not exceptional. I cannot recommend this restaurant over the many others within walking distance of the Stand."

  • "Dined here a few days ago and I won't be returning. Although the food sounded very good and was well-presented, everything that I and my guest ordered was extremely bland and lacked any real flavor. Both the beef soup and the pear salad were mediocre at best, but the entrees were even worse. My guest ordered the Rabbit (extremely underwhelming) and I ordered the squash (decent) with the goat cheese macaroni (terrible). The meal was the most underwhelming and bland experience we've had. Service was only fair and the sommelier was probably one of the worst ones that I've encountered. The atmosphere was very nice though, but overall, I wish we would have spent our money somewhere else."

  • "This is a welcome addition to the birmingham food scene. Excellent food (and drink), with no dissappointments. (Except that I couldn't try everything, despite the fact that I overate and tried). A great variety of the exotic and quaint, all done well, with some interesting new touches. We will definitely be back again. BTW, I cannot say enough good things about the Short Ribs, the Mac and Cheese, and the Foie Gras Burger. A+"

  • "The menu is very limited and consists of very unhealthy options. Saying that we has a good experience here before so we came back and brought my parents. Everything we ordered was very salty this included the tuna tartar beef barley soup macaroni and cheese and pasta dish. The spare ribs were ok. My dad had ordered the gnocchi seafood dish. They had run out of gnocchi so without asking if it was ok brought the dish out with a completely different type of pasta??? He was nice about it but saying all that and with how salty everything was I will go to the other great resturants in birmingham that have much better menus food and service."

  • "Went there for Valentine's Day. Food and service was great. We had reservations and we were seated right away. Complementary coat check. Waiter was polite and prompt. Beef tips appetizer, lobster bisque, and sirloin entree were incredible. Definitely recommend. My date's asparagus, lobster bisque, and sea scallop minestrone was also great. Their deserts of chocolate mouse and creme brule were kinda mediocre but still good. There was good wine selection and service. I would definitely recommend and I plan on going back again...once I save up my pennies again. Pretty expensive for a younger couple. To put things in perspective... Over $180 - 120 for 2 four course meals, 30 for wine bottle, 30 for tip. Great for special occasion."

  • "We love Cuisine so we were very excited to try Paul Groscz' new venture. We tried a lot of the menu, starting with the soup flight, duck cassoulet, tuna tartar and their Caesar salad. The tuna was possibly the best bite I had all night, followed by the lobster bisque. The cassoulet was also right up there, warm and hearty, that sauce should be bottled. The Caesar was boring and lacked acidity, though grilled radicchio was a nice touch. My husband had the chicken which was pretty inventive and very good, though the risotto was under seasoned. I had a veal chop special, the veal was superb, the gnocchi was terrible, too dense, no flavor and over cooked. The Brussels sprout side was great, nice presentation, I am so over the fried sprout."

  • "nice bar ambience and would eat in there if we were to return. the special mixed drinks were very good but should be for $12.00. Main dining room was inviting but we were seated in a smaller room off to the side which reminded me of an office conference room. Menu sounds good but food was only average and portion size was small, except for the grape salad. Service was fine but nothing exceptional. The fried egg lobster appetizer was delicous and I might return to the bar for it."

The scallops were great as was the short rib. The only disappointment was the dessert, a key lime "pie". soo tart, we couldn't eat it. Would definitely go back again."

  • "We have eaten there several times and always fabulous but tonight it was taken to a new level. My husbands duck appetizer was so good I kept taking it from him! The salad was so fresh and tasty-with fennel and grapes. My special entrée -halibut w/ truffle cream was plate licking good. My husband's scallop minestrone ( which mean to serve or dish up in Italian) was the right combination of texture with the corn and flavor with the perfectly cooked scallops. Would definitely give that a four star "dish up"!! Chef Paul Grosz is innovative and shines at every turn. The lighting is perfect and the ambiance so warm and comfortable. All is all a winner!."

  • "The Stand was outstanding! We tried the appetizer on special, pork belly. The name alone turned me off but my boyfriend decided we should try it. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this dish. We both ordered salads and they were quite large. We would have been better off splitting one but none the less still delicious. For dinner I ventured out of my comfort zone and ordered the rabbit. AMAZING! Tender and packed with flavor and I couldn't get enough of the sage polenta. We opted to skip dessert because we were quite full but will certainly be back to try the goat cheese cheese cake."

  • "The food was excellent. The service suffered a bit as the tables were all jammed together as the place was full on a Saturday night (7 p.m. rez). A bit pricy, but worth it. Among our group we had rabbit, scallops, and dover sole. Each was awesome!"
