The Stained Glass is a wonderful restaurant! I went during Northwestern's parents' weekend, so it was very crowded, but I had a reservation and was seated right away. The ambience is a tasteful combination of classic yet trendy. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and the extensive wine list, and helped us choose from among the many unconventional but delicious-sounding choices. The risotto-stuffed Roasted Acorn Squash was a particularly incredible and memorable dish--perfectly done! The donuts with blueberry jelly, maple-rum glaze and cocoa nibs were a clever and tasty dessert. I will definitely come back here to see what other exciting dishes appear on the menu.

even top end restaurants can cram you into a corner and treat you like it was an offense that you walked in. not stained glass. from the instant we sat down, it was comfortable. you could hear your partner talk. the food was simply great, from the cheese appetizer all the way through to the piece of anniversary cake they just brought, because we simply didn't need anything else to eat. highly recommend this one.

When we arrived at the restaurant they advised us that the OpenTable reservation was not in their system! As it was a weekday they were however able to give us a table. If it was a weekend we would have had to find another acceptable restaurant at very short notice, a tall order. And more embarrassing as I was taking my wife out to dinner on her special birthday! OpenTable please take note and investigate.

Have been here twice in the last month. While I wish the menu was slightly bigger, we always have a great meal here. Service is excellent. Helpful with wine choices. Beet salad great, miss the quinoa salad no longer on menu (as well as pork chop). I dream about the lamb chops. Had the whitefish and was a great combo of flavors. Always too full for dessert, but everything sounds yummy. If you have not tried, make a reservation and go. Noise level on weekend nights is strong.

I have eaten at the cellar, but was never able snag a reservation at the main dining room because it is always full of parents of NU students (to be fair, I am one of those). My whitefish was excellent and the lamb and gnocci were perfectly prepared. The truffle fries were a bit overdone/greasy and there is too much truffle oil in the aoili, but all in all it was an excellent and well priced meal. I wish I had had more time, as I was anxious to try the squid/brussel sprout appetizer. Alas, we were in a bit of a hurry.

I have a restaurant test - it's their crab cake. And Stained Glass serves the best I have ever had. Big chunks of crab meat, garnished with julienned peppers and jicama and a drizzle of lime/cilantro aioli. Pure heaven! I normally don't order chicken as it can be dry. Stained Glass's Amish Chicken was a winner -juicy and tender - accompanied by tiny spatzle, with enoki-like mushrooms and slivers of tart red cabbage. Others at my table ordered the hanger steak, rack of lamb and salmon. We all enjoyed our different meals and shared bites of each. I maintain that my chicken was the favorite.

What an amazing place! Newly redecorated, each room of the restuarant has a different feeling. The menu is one of the most interesting I have seen, wih foie gras BLT (unreal) and deviled eggs (who would have thought?) our shared appetizer choices. My wife had a wonderful whitefish dish, but my "tuna! tuna! tuna!" was the best: sashimi, tartare, and seared, all fantastic. Wines are moderately priced with a limited selection, and service was perfect. Food is priced appropriately, and worth every cent. We went for a celebration, but will return for any good reason!

Delicious food, wonderful wine selection and great service at The Stained Glass. The menu hasn't changed in a long time...The special heirloom tomatoes salad was bland and the beet salad had only one note of flavor. The service wasn't all that attentive. They used to have sound proofing and it was quieter and more intimate of a setting. Overall, it is great food and wine but we would like to see that the quality stays high and it seems to be a bit underwhelming.

The food quality has declined significantly since we last dined a few years back. The bread dense and lacked flavor. My lamb was significantly undercooked and the sides came across as institutional food. The foie gras BLT, despite the waiter's assertion to the contrary, was all bread and BLT, with no flavor of foie gras. The stuffed artichoke, however, was outstanding, one of the best I have ever had.

The Stained Glass provided a great dining experience for our birthday night on the town. The food and service were great as well as the wine selection. The only minor downside was a large table of out of towners in for the Northwestern football game who lacked any control for their children. This is not the restaurants fault however I would highly say that this is not a location I would take children. It is much more of an adult destination. The bacon flight was fantastic as was the salmon and hanger steak!

We have enjoyed other meals here.Good Ambiance and noise level. This evening,it was not good. Our server was ok, but disinterested at best and disappeared often.Everything took forever. It was almost an hour between salad and entree. Unacceptable. Our waiter's response to delay:" Everyone came in to both restaurants at the same time, and so the kitchen is really behind. There will be new owners in October, so maybe things will be better then!" What?! When our dinner finally came he said" are you happier now?". Not really. The lamb was good, gnocchi was ok, but the whitefish was awful. We were comped a dessert, but it didn't save the evening. Service was absent, waiter didn't care. Too many other choices in Evanston, won't be back.

Although the atmosphere remains nice, specifically on the bar side, the overall quality/experience was poor. Our waiter, (tall, dark hair with the ridiculous, over enunciated radio announcer voice) who was training or in training, totally helped put the experience in the garbage for us. Plan was share apps & then each have a main. Asked waiter to course them out & not have any arrive at the same time. Summary: Lobster Bisque tasted like squash soup, not LB & they had no sherry for the side. Burrata salad was void of taste. Escargot had nice taste but was served cold WITH the Foie Gras due to lack of planning by the waiter. We left just after 9:20 when we were told "Oh, I think I screwed up, the kitchen closed at 9 tonight." Not fun!!

Our order for drinks was very quick and once deciding on a main course, which was delicious, rack of lamb prepared to every one's satisfaction, we were served in a timely manner. The efficiency of the kitchen and our waiter made it possible for us to order coffee and desert, the desert was the sampler for four, at twenty dollars, what a bargain and delicious too.
