Diner Reviews
  • "Except for my grandmothers', theirs was the best bread pudding ever...called "bread pudding cake," because it's served as a wedge with a small center of custard and Jack Daniels Whiskey sauce poured over the hefty slice. As for the rest, service was excellent, the view was on three sides of the dining room so you could not miss a fabulous SF skyline and Bay view from wherever you sat. We went for a weekday lunch with a reservation and there was a good crowd, but we were given a seat by the window as I called a day ahead. The seafood we had -- scallops and petrale sole, was decently prepared with adequate sides of vegetables and pilaf, garlic mashed or fries. Moderate price. Easy valet parking. Come for the view and the pudding!"

  • "A fantastic place; good service, great view, good food and reasonable prices! Too bad we live in Arizona and can only visit once or twice a year"

  • "My gf and I visited on our way back from Sonoma Valley. We toured the Ram's Gate Winery. It was the perfect evening night cap. It was romantic, right on the water, with tremendous views and a perfect sunset."

  • "Seems everywhere I go . . . someone is talking about dining at The Spinnaker! It is a gorgeous property . . . right on the water . . . with lots of parking, friendly people, outstanding food and service! What is not to like about this restaurant!? It is always a huge treat dining there. Their petrale is killer good! Thanks to the entire staff for always making us feel at home and for allowing us to take our time to enjoy. See you soon!"

  • "Both food and service were good but restaurant needs renovation. The carpet and furniture are old. The tables are too close together that you can hear conversation from next table. Overall, it's a nice place to go if you like scenery and special occasion."

  • "The Spinnaker is one of the best restaurants in the WORLD. Excellent views, food, and superlative service!!!"

  • "Dining at the Spinnaker has been a family tradition for over 40 years. It is a beautiful restaurant, all glass, with an unmatched scenic view of San Francisco and the Bay. The fresh fish is always delicious, the desserts delightful, and the cocktails expertly made. This is the restaurant that we use for special occasions and for entertaining visitors from far away places. Love it."

  • "You just can't beat the ambiance here, floating on the water and looking at beautiful San Francisco and the the Sausalito waterfront. Indeed, the day we went, the City was shrouded in fog and it was still beautiful. Great place to take folks from out of town. The food is not great, but it is fine and the time passed there is magical none-the-less."

  • "A favourite lunchtime spot, specializing in seafood - of course! - which is consistently good. Great view of the Golden Gate, Tiburon & Angel Island. Even when the bridge is covered in fog, Sausalito is usually sunny. Every table has a view of the sailboats, ferries, canoes ... Great for tourists to see how beautiful this part of Caifornia is, and to enjoy great food while doing so."

  • "This is a special location for us to meet, one party from Sonoma County and the other from San Jose, to celebrate another birthday. It was a lovely day and we were seated with an awesome view of San Francisco. Valet parking is another reason we go to Spinnaker's since one of the party members has difficulty walking. My crabcakes were deliciously filled with crab. We meet here frequently each year."

  • "I would avoid this spot; it is surviving on its reputation of past days. Seated 30-40 minutes past our reservation time, angel hair pasta with seafood was basically boiled noodles and blanched seafood - absolutely no flavor. They need to take some of the overpriced revenues and update the decor to a decade more recent than the 1970s. Not worth the trip."

  • "On arrival on time for our table at 8pm we were met by a surly grey haired lady who told us they were trying to get the 7.30s out and we could wait at the bar and have a drink!! No apology!! This we duly did. After a 40 minute wait I got fed up and approached the lady and the maître de. Yes, your name is down for a table. We eventually were seated forty five minutes after we arrived. We regard it as bad manners the way we were treated and not even the offer of a menu when we waiting at the bar as she breezed by us and ignored us. When we were seated there wasn't even an approach from her or the maître de to apologise for our wait. The check arrived, no apology from either of them and I HAD to ask for the check to be looked at. Overrated."

  • "Great place for a date, very nice view of the bay and city. Valet parking was available, very comfortable experience."

  • "The gentleman at valet parking was very polite and helpful. We were seated almost immediately for an early lunch, right at the window facing into a beautiful view of the bay and the city. Our water glasses were filled and a nice fellow came by to greet us and drop off the menus. Then dropped a comment as he was leaving that our waiter would be with us ..... if he ever made it into work....which apparently he did about 10 minutes later ;) The calamari fritti was shared and declared pretty good by all. We all thought our lunches, ranging from salads to pasta and sandwiches were good, not great. But, on a beautiful day in Sausalito you cannot beat the view from The Spinnaker and that makes up for most shortcomings."

  • "The view is out standing. The food is ok. A better chef would make the Spinnaker an out standing attraction."

  • "The decor was antiquated, as were the majority of patrons. This place is in a phenomenal location, but not much has changed since it's heyday in the early 80's... patrons included. The waitress was argumentative with me about my mango allergy. In her defense, she's probably used to people dropping dead in her section."

  • "Great location, great views, great scene. Thank goodness because the food was average and the place is very touristy. Had the clam chowder to start and was treated with a "Sunkist" label mixed in with all the rest of the soup. They took it off the bill (we didn't request it) but it still showed a lack of attention to detail. We were there for brunch and were less than enthusiastic. We'll probably go again because we love the view but we sure won't be going for the food."

  • "My folks had been going here since 1972. So wanted to give my father a nice Father's Day with one of fond memories. It was very busy and staff seemed a bit distracted. Nnormal I felt the service lacked a bit in it's usual care and personal attention. I have to say this is not the norm. The view was to die for, with languid sail boats heading out to the bay, brave swimmers making laps, seabirds gliding past, all in the foreground with the city in clear view across the sparkling water. The food delicious. A day to remember in deed."

  • "Spinnaker is my favorite restaurant in the Bay Area. Watching the small boats sail by is worth the reservation in itself, but the food is always excellent. I have taken out of state and out of country visitors there. This time it was family with a 9-year-old fussy eater and the service was beyond expectations."

  • "Had guests from Japan that had been to Spinnakers 25 yrs. before. They really enjoyed the ambiance and the dining experience. The server, Nancy did an excellent job as Japanese love to share every dish. The clam chowder we found to be a little on the salty side but the salads, appetizers and entrees were outstanding."

  • "Food is not up to par for a restaurant that has been in the business that long. It was better 40 years ago . Waitress forgot drinks. Fish was bland, no flavor for a seafood restaurant . Been the sauce was poor. Nor recommended for seafood, only the view."

  • "We had a great table by the window with an amazing view of the City and the top of the Golden Gate bridge. It was a little noisy because our table was near the entrance to the kitchen. The food was good but not amazing. The décor is outdated and seems to attract an older crowd. But we were there for the view so were very happy with this choice."

  • "My friend and I travel to Marin to celebrate each birthday. We love the view and the peacefulness, unless someone raucous is next to us. The filet of sole buerre blanc is perfect and the apple torte is delicious, also the salad with maple syrup dressing. We get these every time. I have had very dried out fish here, but the sole is perfect. We are not adventurous. We go at 5 pm for maximum quiet. This is not for foodies, just for fish and families, who seem to enjoy it."

  • "After decades, we decided to try the Spinnaker as it was a nice day & we knew they had a great view. But, we were surprised that the food was good; we thought it'd be 'old school' and mediocre at best. Lots of seafood choices, good price points, ample portions & attractive presentation. Service was excellent. We'll return again for food. Signed, Mill Valley local"

  • "We stopped in at the last minute and found quite a crowd due to graduations and a bike team in for a meal. There was a very long wait, but using open table got us in much sooner. The view was gorgeous. The wait staff was efficient and friendly and never forgot to check our water and bread levels. The quesadillla with shrimp and crab was ok-tortilla too cruncy but the filling was tasty. One person had the seafood salad and there was quite a bit of food on the plate and a nice amount of seafood."

  • "Our party of 8 was served by a very attentive server. There was something on the menu for everyone, from our picky 6 year old (pasta with butter & cheese) to our senior members of the family. Everyone was happy with their meal. It didn't feel at all like a tourist trap. Would go back again."
