Diner Reviews
  • "Everything was great - the view of the bay, the fresh taste of seafood well made. The service was par excellence."

  • "Delicious food and great service. What a combination!"

  • "Our recent experience brought to our table a waiter (Steve S.) who forgot to bring an appetizer, became annoyed when asked about the beers, slapped together a Caesar Salad for two that was unevenly plated, very small, and tasted about as bad. Perhaps the Spinnaker should stop accepting tour buses and rely on good food/service for business. I may come back in hopes the Spinnaker will find its form of years ago and create a meal as extraordinary as the view. As it stands now they only way the view would match our recent experience would be to have patrons face inward. Or perhaps spray the windows with a nice white frost. I was once told “the fish always rots from the head first”. It’s time to make some changes at the head of this restaurant."

  • "I have loved the Spinnaker since the first time I have been there. I am always in awe of the large sweeping views and the overall feel of the restaurant, so I decided to take my boyfriend there for dinner. He had never been before, and let me tell you, he absolutely loved it! The service was wonderful and very attentive, but not annoying, and the food was absolutely wonderful (as always). The entire experience was absolutely perfect, and the pricing was fair. The second we left, my boyfriend asked when the next time we could eat there was. Needless to say, the night was a success! I always have a fabulous experience at the Spinnaker and I recommend it to anyone thinking about going. Believe me, you will not regret it."

  • "Spinnaker offers a 180 degree view that is worth a million dollars, but the food and service are an added bonus. We have been here many times and always have efficient, friendly service and good food."

  • "Brunch on Sunday: food, very well cooked; view and location can't be beat. The service though was pretty terrible! Every time we needed something we had to call our server. We were never offered refills without our asking. I was charged 4 ice teas? (I guess for all the trouble I put our waiter through :P); my brother got one coffee refill and a "talk to the hand" gesture when he asked a second time ("I'm busy now, wait a few minutes"?, though the waiter never came back). We had to ask for the desert menu (waiter just placed a to go bag unceremoniously on the table and asked "anything else?"). The only thing we didn't have to ask for was the bill which came as soon as we had our last bite - service tip included, since there were 6 of us :("

  • "We were so pleased with our dinner and exceptional service. Being on the water, with a full view of San Francisco for our visiting guests was a great experience. Our view also included a seal and various bay boats. As locals, we normally shy away from the "touristy" areas, however, once again, the Spinnaker has proved us wrong. Most of us had halibut, which was cooked to perfection and included a beautiful selection of lightly sauteed fresh vegetables. Spinnaker, stay on the course of local and fresh with unique presentations and you will remain a winner for locals and tourists alike. We'll be back! The addition of valet service is a bonus."

  • "Terrific lunch at spinnaker last Sunday.... Dungeness crab in season and was awesome!!! Sailboats all around us-- just beautiful.. Highly recommend this place."

  • "Pleasant staff. Food was decent. View is great. Too big and too crowded for my tastes. Too much of a food factory."

  • "The Spinnaker is still a terrific place to dine especially for lunch or early dinner because of the spectacular view of the bay and the sailboats and the seals. The interior could definitely use some updating, but who cares? No one is looking at the inside anyway! The clam chowder is full of clams, but not as creamy as most in the area. Very tasty though. We had crab louis salad and crab quesadillas which were both good. The food is nothing special or extraordinary, just good and tasty with no special presentation. Bloody marys at the bar were good also. Staff is friendly and the service is good."

  • "Consistently good food and service. The view is spectacular. Impress all your out of towners by taking them here. This is where I take my friends for special occasions."

  • "I took some colleagues for dinner here. Some were new to Sausalito and had never cross the golden gate before. The Spinnaker seemed ideal - I had been before and liked it. The food was good, the service was average but the place itself felt like it was run down. Loved the view...."

  • "We were here for our 40th anniversary. The restaurant went above and beyond and reserved the most perfect table in the room for us. A corner window table over looking San Francisco Bay and the city. Our waiter was an absolutely fantastic gentlemen who provided us with a lot of insight to the area and some nice recommendations. We were well taken care of. We really enjoyed the food and the wine and the ambience was fantastic. And to top if off we were entertained by seals and THE most incredible full moon rising over Angel Island! I highly recommend the Spinnaker for your special evening with your significant other."

  • "Our lunch for 8 guests at the Spinnaker was memorable: varied and menu, beautiful site--views of SF Bay from any table, good service...except for the current bane of eating out: the waiter, who was otherwise pleasant and professional, removed plates as soon as diners finished their meals. An unfortunate trend--and not just here. Should the leisurely eater rush to finish or stubbornly enjoy the rest of the meal? Does the restaurant not have enough plates? Is someone waiting for our table? [We were done in 1 hour, 15 minutes] Definitely will speak up next time."

  • "The setting of this fine restaurant is worth every penny. The view of Sausalito, the water, and the city of San Francisco is unbeatable. To sit there in front of the picture windows and watch the sun set, and then the city lights come up, is simply breathtaking. Adding to that, the service is top notch. Their knowledge of the menu, and fresh options each night is superb. The food is fine - not 5-star, but probably more 4-star type. Very fresh options available each evening, something for everybody, but heavily seafood based. The decor is a bit dated inside - as is the vibe of the place. Don't forget - you go to The Spinnaker for the fine service of good food with a breathtaking view of one of the finest vista's in the world!"

  • "We had a great experience for dinner. The staff was very cordial and accommodating from the valet parking attendant to the maitre d' to the wait staff. Also, the food was delicious and just the right portions. Finally, the view is tremendous. I had guests from out of town, and they were thrilled to be at such a great restaurant. Thanks to all for a wonderful time!"

  • "I go to Spinnaker for the evening view of SF. The full length of the restaurant has a fantastic view. I usually start at the bar, waiting for a window table, and shift there for dinner. The food is always good - its not the best in the world, but its good. Service is also generally good. The wait staff are busy, but there are many - and they always take care of me. Bottom line is: I have never been disapointed - so I go back again and again."

  • "We return for all special occasions as this is my mother's favorite restaurant...for the memories, the view, good food and a very nice staff. On our last visit there were seals frolicking right below the window and a clear and beautiful view of the City. We had a lovely brunch with four generations who all enjoyed it."

  • "Mediocre food and average service make for a forgettable meal. Terrific view of the San Fran skyline at dusk is the only pleasant thing about this restaurant."
    Dined on 2/24/2014
  • "One of the worst dining experiences ever. The restaurant is resting on its laurels of having great Bay views but it was like Grand Central Station-so hectic. The service was non-existent.Wrong wine brought, two guests wanted the Caesar salad which, according to the menu, would be tossed at the tableside. Two small plates of wilted lettuce with oil & vinegar dressing were banged down-the waiter just shrugged when advised that these were NOT Caesar salads.Coffee banged down so that it slurped all over the saucers & dinner plates never taken away so we stacked them up on the corner of the table. The waiter was totally in over his head - couldn't speak or understand English. Dreadful dining experience-felt as if we were nuisances not paying guests."

  • "Spinnaker is the place we bring out of town guests. This time we called ahead to advice we were going to be late due to traffic. Despite the busy brunch time, the staff kept open our request for a table with a view. Fantastic service. And we all enjoyed the fresh seafood!"

  • "The Spinnaker has been a favorite for many years and we always take our out of town guests for lunch or dinner - mostly for lunch because of the spectacular view. It is a special place and we always have good service."

  • "The staff allows a wonderful experience with cocktails before dinner, the pace of the meal, and does not afford diners a feeling of being "rushed". Good selection of liquor and wines by the glass. Highly recommended."

  • "The I had salmon and it was great. My wife has the fish and chips, but the "crust" was a little too thick."

  • "I eat at the spinnaker fairly regularly. By regularly I mean whenever I can, maybe once a month. The food is consistently excellent. The only place I have experienced that comes even close is in New Orleans, and we all know how great the food is there, don't we? Great view, great ambience, great service, great location, what more can I say?"

  • "We came here for the first time on Valentine's Day with a reservation, and it was incredible. The food was absolutely delicious- baked brie with roasted garlic, crab potstickers, a perfectly cooked filet mignon, and my husband had a delicious lobster tail and steak. The view from any seat in the restaurant is beautiful, whether you're looking at the city or back onto Marin. The staff was really friendly, professional, and prompt. We will definitely be back!"
