The Spiced PearWorth itExpensive but great ambience food and service.
Wish I could afford to go more often.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSupreme souffléDelicious dinner, expertly waitered by Teddy. He was attentive but not overly so. He was anticipatory and unhurried. The chowder was a bit on the salty side. The lamb was divine and perfectly cooked. Thank you for a special evening.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything we expectedAnd more. The food was elegantly presented and tasted as delicious as it looked. For a special occassion it is truly worth it.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband and I have beenMy husband and I have been coming to the Spiced Pear for our anniversary for several years. We always look forward to the experience and tell our friends about the wonderful food and service. The spiced pear is our favorite place to dine for special occasions and entertaining.guest.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAn extraordinary experienceAfter reading dozens of ecstatic reviews, I took my fiancée here for our anniversary -- and now it's our turn to rave ecstatically!
For starters, the scenic view of surf lapping at shoreline, complemented by elegant interior decor, set the stage beautifully for our romantic dinner.
The service was equally impressive: our waiter, Cole, was not only knowledgeable and patient in relieving our many bouts of indecision, but charming and hilarious to boot. After warmly congratulating us on our engagement, he even arranged for the chef to write "Happy anniversary!" on the dessert plate in chocolate script.
As for the meal itself, it was easily among the finest we'd ever had. From start to finish, each dish was succulent. We left in ecstasy.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic all aroundEverything was fantastic about our visit. The food, the view, the atmosphere and the service. We were greeted with a smile by the maitre d and brought to our table. We overlooked the stunning waterfront of Newport. The sun was just setting after a day of rain. Our server, Cole, was ever friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the wine and dinner menus. The meal was exquisite, brava to the chef! We finished our evening in the bar area while we waited for our car. The staff in the restaurant and hotel were impeccable. Thank you for such a wonderful evening. We will be back!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot in NewportFor our wedding anniversary we wanted to hit two very nice restaurants in Newport. The Spiced Pear repeatedly came up as a common recommendation. It's right on on the Cliff Walk in the The Chanler Inn with wonderful views of the ocean (although not all tables will have ocean views). The food was outstanding with interesting combinations and flavors along with beautiful presentation. We selected from the a la carte menu rather than the Chef's Tastings. We highly recommend the soufflé for dessert! The atmosphere was quiet, calm, and friendly. A jazz trio was playing in the bar (The Barmen were great by the way as well). The service was very good, relaxed, no pretentious airs. We were not rushed at all and enjoyed our time here very much.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWE LOVE THE SPICED PEAR!This is our favorite restaurant in Newport. We come a few times a year and always during Restaurant Week. This usually quiet setting was interrupted by some boisterous wedding guests in the adjacent room, but we didn't mind. We were seated at a lovely table where we were immediately greeted by our server who was charming and catered to our every needs. One thing my companion always appreciates is that they offer half-bottles of wine. I ordered the mixed green salad (a nice portion) and hanger steak - perfectly cooked. My companion ordered the potato leek soup and the redfish - both excellent. The dessert was fantastic. We ordered the sorbet - incredible flavors, and the lemon panna cotta - scrumptious. Can't wait to come back!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious and very good service.Delicious and very good service. The lamb was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreatGreat food and service. Worth the time and money. Try it.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect SettingSpiced Pear is a very romantic dinning experience. The view is perfect as you overlook Easton's Beach in Newport. The service is outstanding. The potato leek soup was delicious, very creamy, the best I have ever had. It was restaurant week so we tried the offerings on the special menu. The chicken dish was good but not impressive, the rest of our party had the lamb which they said was delicious. The duet dessert was rather dry, not sure who thinks ice cream that taste like a breakfast cereal is a good idea, I don't. The chocolate mint souffle (not on the restaurant week menu) was delicious. Valet service was excellent. Will try it again this summer for lunch on the patio.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMRomantic and deliciousDelicious food with many interesting and unique options. The service was incredibly attentive and friendly. The jazz in the bar beforehand was lively and fun with some incredible pre dinner appetizers. The view was really the cherry on top of a fantastic romantic night!!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've hears great things aboutWe've hears great things about this Cliff Walk restaurant and it didn't disappoint us but it didn't knock our socks off either. Still a great scenic view and I'm sure the outdoor patio in the summer is great. Recommended for smaller parties when price is not a concern.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful experience. LovedWonderful experience. Loved everything. Terrific staff.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThe menu was very varied andThe menu was very varied and interesting, the wine list was extensive (albeit expensive), and the vanilla soufflés were the best. I am told that the patio overlooking the ocean is great for dining but it was dark at night in the winter so I can only imagine.2/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
