  • "We make it a point to go to the Spiced Pear for our anniversary every year. The view is so pretty. The service exceptional. The food is dining at it's finest. We especially love the open kitchen! When in Newport make it a point to make a reservation. Even the lobby is beautiful!!"

  • "The atmosphere and service were wonderful ... but we went in hoping for "White Barn" quality creative dishes and this left our palates a bit disappointed. We had the only (!) lobster dish (clambake mix) and the sirloin entrees. OK but lacking in distinctive flavors. The starters (crab legs and gazpacho) were better but the crab legs were too spicy for my fiance's taste. They should ask for a heat preference on that dish. The Cliff Walk view and service were wonderful so we may go back...but the menu and food quality need to keep pace with the high expectations set by the locale."

  • "Beautiful scenery at the beginning of the life Walk. It was nicety see locales on the trail, the overlook of the beach and the fine dining made this a great night. For and drinks were perfection."

  • "We enjoyed the views and ambiance at Spiced Pear. Loved the Lobster Bake, but overall the food was not very creative. Good wines though! Best restaurant in Newport, but that mainly reflects the lack of other good restaurants."

  • "But not full of itself. Just excellent, top rate food."

  • "Free valet parking, the valet staff was very nice. It was very quiet, probably only 6-8 other dinners in the restaurant. Nice décor, seated in a small room that looked out over the beach with 6 tables, 2 chairs each. Tables too large for intimate 2 person dinner. Service, while good, was not the greatest. Nothing I can really put my finger on, just not crisp, clean, or polished that one might expect from this type of restaurant (compare to Ocean House RI, or Mayflower Inn, CT). Fish was overdone, excellent soufflé. Probably won't go back. Not exactly what we were expecting for a 30 Anniversary Dinner."

  • "Found the atmosphere very soothing. Waiters were very good to meeting your needs. Food was outstanding, best I have tasted this year. Would easily reserve and evening for family or friends."

  • "Perfect anniversary destination. This was a special occasion and it was handled extremely well by all staff from Valet parking to the attending waiter staff. The Romantic ambiance is perfect. We live in the area and plan to use the Spiced Pear more often. The bartender even knew how to mix a Sidecar!"

  • "We had an excellent dinner here to celebrate anniversary. Lobster bisque excellent! View unparalleled!"

  • "Think they just miss the price/experience value point. The food was very good and scenic view is excellent, but they put too premium a price on it."

  • "We did the wine pairing as it was a special occasion. Food itself was interesting but not as special or as innovative as one would expect for the prices. Overpriced. The service, however, was outstanding and the view from our table was attractive overlooking the beach. "

  • "I can't say enough about the amazing experience my husband and I shared at The Spiced Pear. We chose the chef's tasting with wine pairing and every course was divine. I'd have to count this chef among the few I've encountered that are gifted enough to elevate cuisine to an art form. The service was outstanding and the setting was lovely. This was truly an evening made for a lifetime memory!"

  • "My wife and I dined at the Spiced Pear based on reviews of others. It did not disappoint. The food was exceptional and my wife and I have dined in other 5 star restaurants. The view, however, was not as spectacular as advertised. Once it gets dark, you cannot see anything. The dining room seemed very bright. Despite this, you will not be disappointed by the food. Very well presented and cooked. "

  • "I took my Mother here over Mother's day weekend and had LOVELY dinner. It was fantastic from start to finish. Great food, service, and ambiance."

  • "The Spiced Pear came recommended and it could not have been better. The service was great led at our table by Cole, but the food was spectacular, notably the presentations. The Butter Poached Lobster and the Duo of Pork were outstanding. A very nicely arranged and reasonably priced wine list also added to the overall high quality of the Spiced Pear. The open kitchen concept allowed us to see how truly great the kitchen staff performed, and they did, executing very well as a team. I would heartily recommend this great place to anyone who is looking for top of the line dining in Newport."

  • "The Spiced Pear is located right on Memorial Boulevard in Newport and sits right at the entrance to the Cliffwalk. By virtue of this location you have beautiful views of First Beach. The food there, even though on the pricey side, is exceptional. The wait staff knows their jobs well and were attentive without being intrusive. I would highly recommend this for a special dining experience on a special occasion."

  • "The Spiced Pear was recommended by a friend for my wife and I to have lunch or a drink. We reserved for lunch, and had such a great experience, we ended up cancelling reservations at another restaurant for that evening and came back to the Spiced Pear for dinner. It was even better with outstanding and friendly service, great selection, food prepared exquisitively, and our plan is to come back to this restaurant the next time we are in Newport. We highly recommend this for lunch, or dinner, or stop by for a drink as there is live music on Friday evenings, which made our dinner even more enjoyable. Of course, the scenic view does help. Worth the $$$."

  • "Had 8:00 reservations for 2. We arrived a few minutes early. We were not seated until 8:12. We decided what we wanted, then the waiter told us they were out of the surf and turf, which was what i had wanted. The food (sirloin, maine lobster, bread, and ice cream dessert) was delicious from start to finish, though the sirloin portion was small. We enjoyed zinfandel and champagne. The waiter service was very good. It would have been amazing had we not waited so long to be seated and if they had the menu item i had originally wanted. "

  • "We always go to the Spiced Pear during Newport Restaurant Week, and we, again, had a wonderful meal and experience. We started with the lobster arancini - three large deep-fried rice balls - DELICIOUS! I had the New Bedford Cod, which I think is the best thing I have ever eaten here. I hope they put it on the regular menu. t was like a clam bake was put down in front of me - it was fabulous! Our dinner companions ordered the pork duet, which was very tender and delicious as well. We all ordered the panna cotta for dessert - it was quite a large dish of creamy vanilla heaven! I love this place. The service was, as always, impeccable! One more thing I love about the Chanler is that the restrooms are beautiful!!"

  • "The evening was perfect! The ambiance was perfect, as usual, never disappointed. The Alaskan halibut was unbelievable and the tenderloin was cooked to perfection, it melted in your mouth. Oysters looked good but I don't eat raw shellfish, lobster bisque had plenty of lobster, such a treat. The perfect ending was the soufflé, it's a must have! I can't wait to go back!"

  • "This is a beautiful restaurant in a beautiful hotel. I will start by saying, the service here is impeccable, our server was excellent! The ambience would be wonderful, IF it didn't share space with a very (that night any how) very, noisy bar area. If it was not for the bar scene, it would be a very quiet, romantic restaurant. The kitchen is as beautiful as the restaurant. I wish I could say the food is over the top, it's not. The description of the food was far better than the taste of the food. I am a foodie and I was not impressed. Perhaps during warmer months, and on the beautiful veranda, overlooking the ocean, breakfast or lunch would be very enjoyable."

  • "Love this restaurant and the hotel where it is located. Had the same waiter as we had last year and he is wonderful. There was a table next to us that was a little noisy and when we left to go to the bar for an after dinner drink, the waiter came by to tell us that the restaurant manager was buying our drinks for the inconvenience of the noise during dinner. A very thoughtful gesture. Will go back any time I get to Newport."

  • "This was the best restaurant experience I have enjoyed to date. The food was amazing, the staff was fantastic, and the entire facility was spotless. I cannot think of a single recommendation for improvement. My wife and I went there for our first wedding anniversary dinner. We both got the 6 course menu. I had mine with the wine pairing, my wife had hers without. I am looking forward to the next time when I try the nine course with wine."

  • "After reading all the excellent reviews online, I decided to surprise my girlfriend with reservations to this Newport gem for Valentine's Day. 5:45 reservations had me a bit worried but it worked out since we were among some of the first patrons there on this Friday with excellent seating overlooking the beach and beautiful sunset. The service and food were excellent. Our waiter was even nice enough to take our picture to remember the evening. Highly recommend the desserts - table side flambe. The bar area is small but has some seating in the surrounding area - perfect for a nightcap. The ambiance is upscale and definitely worth the trip to Newport."

  • "The Spiced Pear was recommended to us by a couple who own an antique store in New Port. When we told them we were only there for one evening they told us we should definitely dine at the Spiced Pear. We are so glad we did, the restaurant was exactly what we were looking for. Excellent atmosphere, staff, food and drinks! Would dine at the Spiced Pear again!"

  • "Had Valentine's Day dinner here and everything was outstanding. We opted for the five course tasting menu, which the chef allowed a special substitution. Everything was wonderful and we certainly cleaned our plates. The manager helped us pick out a fantastic wine which accompanied the food quite nicely. Only complaint is that the music was a little loud, but it did not distract from an outstanding evening."

  • "Our reservations were early which was fortunate since we departed in near blizzard conditions. One outstanding quality of dining there is the eagerness to please of every employee from the valet parkers to the bus boys. We had oysters, perfectly chilled, fresh and delicious and lamb chops, extraordinarily tender and tasty cooked medium-rare just as we requested. We each had a half bottle of wine from their extensive wine list. They have their own spiced pear champagne, served by the glass, a lovely aperitif."

  • ". The service is professional and friendly. The food is imaginative and superbly executed. The bar and wine service are top notch. The sum of all the small details that are done properly come together to make for a fine dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone that enjoys good food, properly prepared and served."

  • "The Spiced Pear is a beautiful restaurant, but it sets an expectation that the food will also be very special. It's not. It's okay but it doesn't rise to the level of a great meal. Still a nice experience, but with better food it would be really special."

  • "From the warming greeting at the door to after dinner drinks in the bar, Spice Pear is truly a memorable experience. The servers have detailed knowledge about each dish and its preparation as well as the extinsive wine list. Each dish is prepared and presented with great care and attention to detail. An excellent place for special celebrations."

  • "I made this reservation 2 weeks in advance and was told there were not that many reservations yet for New Years Eve dinner at 6:30pm When we arrived we were told the table was not ready yet - there were multiple tables set but because our son was with us (who is a 24 yr old law student) we believe they set a table for us by the kitchen which was noisy and disappointing. Many of the other tables remained empty during our meal. The food was wonderful and the waiter and service was excellent. I was not happy with our table location and the noise from the kitchen, however. We came from CT to go here for New Years Eve and expected a better table."
