  • "I hadn't gone to a restaurant as good as Urban Grub until tonight. The Southern is AMAZING! I am going back tomorrow night!!"

  • "We have been here quite a bit for brunch and were horribly embarrassed due to the fact that it was my partners birthday and we brought friend's in from Austin. The service was slow and our server was forgetful of our drinks and the food was just okay. Our server was very inexperienced at the fast pace required for such a busy day and frankly I am not certain he ever will be. Not sure if we will come in again."

  • "Where we were seated was very loud and not a nice place to have a conversation. Was there for brunch will try lunch during the week. Food was good"

  • "My husband and I decided to do brunch on Sunday last minute. SO glad that The Southern had an opening. This was an awesome place, the service was awesome (Eric) and his suggestions were right on. We can't wait to try dinner one night."

  • "This is one of the best comfort food restaurants I've ever been too! The oysters, the steaks, the chicken fried chicken, the fries did not disappoint! The front room is very noisy, but the rooms in the back less so. Did not save room for dessert. It was awesome!!!!!"

  • "Southern was a great alternative to many of the more basic menus found in the Honky Tonks. Higher end fare was delicious. Try the Brisket, just falls apart and well seasoned. Started with the Kusshi osyters great with a touch of the yellow hot sauce. I had the bone in ribeye, perfect cook, a little pricey. Generally enjoyed all and great service."

  • "In town visiting and Southern recommended by multiple people. Totally worth al the hype. Food great. Especially loved the Bless Your Heart salad. A little noisy but fun atmosphere. Great location within walking distance of hotels and honky tonks."

  • "Best southern restaurant this side do the Mississippi. Waffle and chicken, shrimp an grits, blue cheese biscuits and filet and more. Great drinks, a true Nashville gem."

  • "Had some folks in town on business, we all had the "meat and three" special for lunch it was wonderful. This is a quick and great quality spot for a lunch meeting any day of the week. The only real challenge for a lunch meeting is the sound level is a bit high, but it gets quickly overlooked when the food arrives!!"

  • "The food at The Southern is always very good. It is a bit pricey for lunch, but this was a business lunch so that wasn't a problem. The location is great. My wife and I have dined several times at dinner."

  • "We were very satisfied. Glad we had RSVP. Good good and service and plan to go back when in town again."

  • "Located near Nashville's scenic pedestrian bridge, The Southern was busy on the Sunday evening we were there. While the food is nothing extraordinary, it's certainly above average. My son's filet was good, but not prepared as he asked for it to be, coming out more rare than medium rare and not the least bit seared on the outside. My vegetable plate (add shrimp) was passable. The desserts were tasty, but definitely institutional. Our server was personable and knowledgable about the menu and attentive to our needs."

  • "This is my favorite place to take out-of-town visitors for brunch on the weekends. Everything on the brunch menu is amazing, the atmosphere is great, and Sunday brunch has great live jazz music. When the weather is nice we love sitting on the patio with bloody marys and mimosas and enjoying the views. My personal favorite is The Highway (fried chicken and waffles) and if you can take the heat, get the hot chicken option. If you get there after 12 noon without a reservation, be prepared to wait - it's a popular place!"

  • "This place has it all. Great food. Great service. Great Scene. Get the chicken and waffles (The Highway)"

  • "This is not my first visit to the Southern and will not be my last. The one word that comes to mind is consistent. The food and the service are always top notch. We're always recommending this place to friends and family."

  • "Chargrilled oysters (lemon herb and barbeque) were wonderful as usual. I opted for the hot chicken salad for the first time and it was pretty good, though I don't think I'll order it again. The bread pudding for dessert was lovely as we're the cocktails throughout."

  • "We have dined here numerous times, and for the first time we weren't impressed. We brought friends and family from out of town in to get a true Nashville dining experience, and the food was...ok. Nothing special, which is not typical of this place. The most disappointing part of the meal, my friend and I ordered Blood Orange Mimosas thinking that it would be a nice treat....wrong. Instead of using blood orange juice, as we expected AND paid for, we got mimosas with grenadine poured on top. We know this because we sat by the bar and watched them do it then bring it to us. We paid an additional $8 on a carafe for grenadine. It is a scam. Had it not taken 20 minutes to get our drinks, I would have said something."

  • "While The Southern is one of my favorite eateries in Nashville, Saturday was not their best showing. Service was mediocre and my crab salad was less than great. The greens were bitter and had little dressing. My friends did enjoy the Hot Chicken Salad and Southern Fried Egg sandwiches, all of which were awesome. I should like to see biscuits, muffins or some other form of bread offered - could be a good way to show off a daily little delight."

  • "With all of the highly rated restaurants in Nashville, it is a bit of a gamble finding the right one. Once I read reviews abouth "The Southern", it looked like a winner. When I attempted to make a reservation, I realized there were limited options. This confirmed my hunches that this was a great pick. Sure enough, this was a delightful meal and unique experience in Nashville."

  • "I highly recommend this restaurant - ate there twice in one week! Good food, good service, prices comparable, trendy but not excessively and fun atmosphere!"

  • "This is a great place. Everything was excellent, so excellent we returned the next day for lunch. Do not leave without having the BBQ shrimp and Southern Caesar. Even the beer was special and the Martini well done. Will return one more time before we set sail for home."

  • "The waiter was in a rush to serve us and he hardly spent anytime table side. Food came out cool and one dish was very dry, seemed like it had sat a long time. I have had a lot better food and service at cheaper Restaraunts."

  • "Always have a great time at the Southern! Great food, great drinks and the staff is over and beyond making sure our every whim is met!"

  • "Had not been to The Southern before for lunch, but had been for dinner and brunch. The lunch scene was quite good. The food was reasonably priced and delicious. Two of us had different versions of their tacos; one had their Southern burger; I had the salad with fish of the day (grouper blackened). We had a very helpful waitress. The booths in the back are great! Would go again. Glad they have valet parking at lunch. Makes it easier."

  • "good for and service -- blackbean/sausage soup-oyesters and ribs were the stand outs--good crowd but a bit loud"
    Dined on 7/14/2014
  • "This use to be a favorite and I would always recommend it! It was so loud in there, we could barely carry on a conversation. We never got a basket of bread but all the tables around us did. I had the risotto, no flavor, just a drag. My Dad had the Belle and had two pieces of asparagus come with it. My mom has the pork chop which was cooked properly and great flavor but it was huge and she got a pinch of risotto with it. Such a bummer- so many great restaurants in Nashville this one doesn't stick out anymore."

  • "This restaurant was recommended by a co-worker and I made a reservation for a three person business dinner. We wanted good food and a place where we good discuss business. The Southern was crowded and a bit noisy for business discussions. My guests felt like we were being rushed along by the waiter. In fact, the steaks came out about 30 seconds after the salads and were undercooked. They were sent back to kitchen to be kept warm until the salads could be eaten. Otherwise, the food was very good and the service was good. Overall, a great place to have dinner with friends and then get out to experience the city. Public parking nearby and a short walk to the more popular entertainment spots."

  • "My husband and I went here for our 1 year anniversary, and it was fantastic!! They fly their Oysters in DAILY and my husband thought they were very good quality. Our server was very polite, knowledgeable of the menu, and prompt. Everything about our experience at The Southern was great, and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others and go back again myself! A++"

  • "From the right amount of spice in the bloodies to the perfect poach of the eggs, The Southern rocked on a recent Sunday morning (OK, early afternoon). The modern space emphasized chic over industrial; check out the interesting rest room vanities. The attentive staff enhanced the cool vibe, whether with our own party of two, or to the parties of eight and ten nearby. The food, prepared exquisitely, demonstrated the talents from the kitchen not only in the way it tasted but in its presentation. And, of course watching the tourists, the students, and the townfolk altogether was an additional treat."

  • "The food at The Southern was very good. I got fried chicken with collards and macaroni and cheese. The chicken was crisp but not dry and the side items had a lot of flavor. The only complaint that I have would be in regards to the portion size. For the price that one pays, the portions are incredibly small. I would have given the restaurant a 5 star rating had I not gone away hungry."

  • "I have been to the Southern before and was more than impressed! Oysters are amazing, steak was also great! We went on a date night this past weekend and was underwhelmed with the food, except for the oysters, which were great!.... Royal red risotto was so bland. My husbands fish tacos were blah. I will go again because I love the atmosphere.... Just disappointed this time around."

  • "The food was excellent. A nice choice of cocktails and wine. Our waitress was delightful and attentive. The 8oz steak was outstanding, oysters are not to be missed. Good to have valet parking in this downtown location. We could not have been happier and will most certainly return."

  • "Food was good as always, but the service was at best questionable and at times simply not there. The restaurant was full, and very busy. Never once saw a member of management making the rounds or anyone ask us if we needed anything. We had to ask each time."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "Went for brunch and we really liked it. The Bellini and blood orange mimosas were delicious and a must to order either one! We all ended up having the southern breakfast sandwiches and they were good. It was a really good crowd and had a great vibe. There was even a live band, which was cool.... but WAY too loud! If they would have turned the volume down a couple of notches, it would have been great!"

  • "The food was very good and would recommend it for a high end special night out. If you are in a group ask to be seated in the back room. The main dinning area was to noisy to hear anyone except for the people seated next to you."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • " My wife and I arrived 45 minutes early for our reservation and asked to be seated earlier if possible. We were ignored for over an hour while numerous walk-ins after us were seated. Our server was delightful and the only bright spot during our evening. The food arrived, my wife wife ordered the filet and it was undercooked, I ordered the burger, it was dry and hard enough to withstand a Shea Weber slapshot. The bun spent too much time under the heat lamp and was so dry it fell apart. I expected so much more after all the hype and reviews."
