The SourceAwesome experience in Washington DCI was very excited to visit this restaurant after reviewing the menu and the reviews. I would have to say that the reviews overall did NOT prepare me for the awesomeness that I experienced. The staff was amazing, the ambiance was perfect, and the food was brilliant. I ordered the shrimp dumpling chowder soup, the lacquered crispy duck, and the 7 layer carrot cake. The taste of every item was delightful and delicious. The meal was more expensive than I think I have ever paid for a meal, but every bite was simply worth it. I will definitely visit it again on my next visit to DC. Simply marvelous was the entire experience.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMfor an Asian Fusion, it isfor an Asian Fusion, it is very good, though it is a bit pricey.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for a special occassion!Went here for our anniversary and had a great evening of delicious food! Our dessert even came out with a "Happy Anniversary" message from the kitchen. Service was friendly but sometimes slow. Our dishes were pretty salty, and they do not have many by the glass wine options, but overall a terrific meal with generous portions and great flavors. Get the tiny dumplings and the lamp duo!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMspecial treatnot only does the restaurant have a great view, the food is the best I have had in Washington. ..the dishes have an inviting amount of spice and are presented beautifully. Love the soup!!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently GOOD.I enjoy dining at The Source and am pleased to host others because I know they too will enjoy the fine food and service.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMLove it!Two people in our party were vegetarians. We informed Chef Drewno of this beforehand, and he had some vegetarian appetizers ready for the vegetarians in our party when we arrived (and the house special tuna tartare for us). The food was excellent, the service superb, and our window table overlooking the streetscape fun. Everything was great! Thanks, chef!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Source Review. We had a wonderful experience... The food was superb and we had a very attentive waiter.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMAdore The SourceThe food was sublime and the worldwide manager welcomed us profusely! It helped that we could talk international soccer!!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMTerrific food, service glitchWe have enjoyed numerous Saturday dim sum brunches at The Source and this was our first time to experience a major service issue. Evidently our table was in a dreaded "no-wait-staff-zone" which was so unusual compared to previous visits. Fortunately for us, a waiter at the next service area was kind enough to supply menus, and then we were finally asked if we had been helped... The waiter who took our table implied that it wasn't his space but he would be happy to lend a hand. Had this been our first visit, it might well have been our last. The food, as always, was fabulous and we enjoyed a couple of new items on the dim sum menu one of which was the lobster bun - delicious!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFun evening.......but expected more of the estimable Wolfgang Puck. The Diver scallops were tasty, but somehow flat. Some "brightness" was missing that could have lit up the whole dish. The wine list is skewed to the rather expensive, but the house Puck was winning, and well poured. We dined early, and by the end of our meal, we could tell that conversation would soon have become a challenge -- but certainly not as inner-ear damaging as Rasika or Brasserie Beck.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food! Best way to goGreat food! Best way to go is the 8 choice price fixe, Plenty of food for two! Chesapeake Bloody Mary is great.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMA Must Try!!!!Food and service was amazing! Pricey.....but worth it! Been here twice and left very happy! Everyone should try the Crispy Suckling Pig for an appetizer....but order 2! One serving just isn't enough!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently great foodWe eat at the Source regularly and have never been disappointed. This time, however, the food was even better! The carrot cake, which we almost always order, tasted better than ever! Two in our party were new to the Source and were delighted with our experience--and their food!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food!Great food but their was some sort of large mixer going on in the bar so the noise level was incredibly high. Otherwise it was a great place.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMUpscale DiningThis restaurant is located next to the Newseum, but don't mistake it for a museum cafe. This is an upscale place - everyone that came in was in a suit. The food was superb and the perfect amount! I love how the Power Lunch comes with cookies - they were the BEST chocolate chip cookies I ever had!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautiful Restaurant, Great FoodAs a semi-frequent visitor to the Source downstairs bar after a movie, I keep the upstairs in reserve for special occasions. Celebrating our anniversary there on a Monday night was one of those special visits. Everything we had was delicious and attractively presented. I shall return!5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMI've been to the Source severalI've been to the Source several times and the quality of food is always good. An excellent asian themed menu, with the twists in preparation and plating that you would expect from a Wolfgang Puck restaurant. My recommendations for main course would be either the duck curry or drunken noodles with shrimp.
While the prices are not outrageous, they are a bit on the high side. The one course I cringe most at the prices is dessert. My group shared the plate of chocolate chip cookies with coffee and the cookies alone were $12.
Still I would definitely recommend this restaurant5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMDid not disappointMy experience with the Dim Sum Brunch is consistent with other positive reviews. The food was quite delicious, presented well, but nothing over the top. Service was good. My friends and I were a bit under dressed compared to others in the restaurant, but the atmosphere was light and casual for brunch.
Surprisingly, the dishes that my group selected on our second round ended up being some of the best. Moral of the story: don't be afraid to order the Chinese Sausage Fried Rice or Turnip Cakes. Everything was great, but those were the surprising standouts for us.
$115 was enough to fill three bellies and get a couple drinks. Great deal for the quality.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently great! The restaurant never disappoints. This was our third brunch experience at the Source. I am not a big advocate that the kitchen spews out your orders randomly. Each dish however was well done and consistently great! Service was inconsistent and could use more
accessible and less attitude.
Each dish was memorable and made great conversion around the table.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experience, needs fine tuningHigh quality, innovative Asian fusion cuisine. We had the tasting menu with wine pairings and were not disappointed by chef's creativity. But the experience needs fine tuning. Dumpling course was terrific but some were cold, others over salted. Spicy tuna tartar in miso crisp cone was tasty and fresh but the cone's sweetness was cloying & marred the flavor balance. Under-seasoning an issue sometimes. Service was friendly and attentive but pacing was an issue. We needed more time to enjoy cocktails before first course! We sometimes felt rushed with course delivery. Often we had to wait for the wine pairing to show up with the dish. Finally, could we do away with having the runners describe each dish? Waiter has far more knowledge on food.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA Special BirthdayWe went for lunch to celebrate my husband's birthday. The food and service were first class. I'd noted it was his birthday in the reservation and they made reference to it several times.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways excellent. Has theAlways excellent. Has the crab and bacon sandwich which had a light favor full taste. My friend had the duck which he said was very tasty service here is always friendly efficient and warm.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMYUM!!!Went here for corporate lunch and food was as good as I remembered. I tried their lobster bao bun and nearly lost my mind! The flavor was delish and the bread SO yummy. I'm going back as soon as I can to order that again. Had a little issue with my food coming out with the rest of the table but they comped me for it as an apology which was great. Also had the crab fried rice which had large, tender chunks of crab and again, great flavor. Finished off my lunch with their carrot cake which tastes as good as it looks. The environment of this restaurant is very sexy and slick. Lots of glass and ivory...very lovely in the evening. They have a glass wine cellar that is also visually pleasing. Love this place!4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent interpretationsExcellent interpretations on dim sum, the barbecued pork belly and
Duck bao buns are not to be missed. Neither are the hangover eggs. Excellent
Cocktails, I recommend the dark & stormy. The staff is quite friendly. I can't
Wait to go back4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMNot worth the hype!If I could give 3 1/4, I would. We had a reservation for 4 and my spouse and I arrived approximately 35 minutes early, so we sat in the seating area around the bar. At that time, around 8:10, there was ample seating at both the bar and lounge areas. It took a server over 15 minutes to approach us and take our order (simple--glass of wine and draft beer) and an ADDITIONAL 15 minutes to deliver. We saw other tables in the lounge area arrive, order and receive their order before us.
Our other party arrived and it took a further 15 minutes to pay the bill. We asked for it to be transferred, but were informed that was not the "preferred" way.
The food was just average, but we received great service. Not the "bang" for the buck!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food but very noisyDelicious food but very noisy and hard to have an easy conversation or the hear the person across the table without leaning way in.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAn excellent mealIt's true, the view is awful. But the location is good - next to the Newseum and adjacent to The Mall. The dining room is spacious and the windows make it feel big. The service is very good.
And the food is excellent. The crystal dumplings with crab and pork might be the best appetizer I've ever had. The Rockfish is also excellent.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFood is expensive but veryFood is expensive but very good. Try the rockfish! The view is awful and the noise level much louder than expected, but the Source is still well worth experiencing.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMpricey but worth it.ambiance and food were terrific. little on the pricey side though.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMPHENOMENALFrom the moment we arrived everything was done right!!
Each member of this "team" obviously takes pride their role in ensuring that your dining experience is all that you could have imagined / expected. And, expectations are always extremely high for a Wolfgang Puck restaurant.
The artistic presentation and unforgettable flavor of every dish make this a "go to" spot for EVERY special ocassion and ANY time you can.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMCulinary Excellence!Every time I bring friends to The Source, it's an impeccable experience.
The food is sublime and the menu diverse for a global world!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, bad serviceThe food here was excellent - modern Asian delicious. But we were extremely disappointed with the quality of service we received from our server. We wanted to order an appetizer with drinks so we could dine leisurely and she cautioned against it, since some entrees took 45 minutes or more to prepare. She then got lost for ten minutes while we decided on our entire dinner. In fact, our main course arrived barely after we finished our appetizer, so we were rushed for no reason. She never visited to see if the order was acceptable, and never asked whether we enjoyed dinner at all, I am a generous tipper, usually, since our kids have all been servers, but this time I was inclined to tip nothing, since we surely did not receive attention4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMwe had such a great meal andwe had such a great meal and good service that will there I emailed my daughter who loves good food to remind us to bring her to The Source next time she is in town.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGot money to burn?Great food, great atmosphere, but waaaaayyy overpriced, leaving poor value for money.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Birthday Dinner!I came here for my birthday and had the 7 course tasting menu with the wine pairing. It was a fabulous experience from start to finish. The food was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. I was extremely impressed and would love to come back for their dim sum brunch because my favorite course was the dim sum sampler. All the wine was amazing as well. All around, we had a fantastic experience. Best birthday dinner ever!4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was absolutely delicious,The food was absolutely delicious, the portions just right for a lighter, but satisfying lunch. Delicate flavors, contrasts of texture, yummy!! Our server was attentive and professional without being intrusive. Two amuse-bouche from chef, that was a special treat!4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Overall Experience! We had an amazing experience, the food was outstanding and the dishes were presented beautifully. Highlights include the tuna tartare, suckling pig, day boat scallops, glazed pork and pan roasted rockfish. The server gave us some great recommendations, and although the service was a little impersonal it was very efficient. Overall it was one of the best meals/experiences that we've had in years!4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMMenu is headline making.A perfect beginning to a visit to DC. Both the Amish chicken and the wild salmon were scrumptious. The signature drinks were to diie for.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a very pleasant experience. It was a very pleasant experience. The staff was accommodating to the vegetarian and gluten-free members of our party.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat good. Service alwaysGreat good. Service always seems good but not great.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding Food. Good Service. We had a terrific meal. We couldn't decide what to get so we each ordered different dishes and shared. The Lobster Bao and Duck curry were wonderful.
Server was knowledgeable and kept things moving quite well. Wish she had been more friendly and playful, as it would have been more fun when asking about food. Too many responses were flat, "depends on what you want" sorts of responses. Meh...
Regardless, this is one of my favorite DC dining spots and I'll be back again.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a treasure! We came to The Source on recommendations both from a friend in California and locals here in DC, and we were thrilled. The food was superb, and the service was efficient and attentive, and very personal. Some favorites included the dumpling soup- incredible favors and textures - and the lettuce wraps with lamb were incredible: fresh, complex, textural, delicious. Main dishes included the quail- superb- and the house special of wok-steamed lobster with a crazy hot sauce, removed from shell at the table. Triple chocolate soufflé was the perfect end to a perfect meal. Great wine menu and great selecting of single malt scotches!3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMIn general my favorite restaurantIn general my favorite restaurant in Washington. Never disappointed. I describe it as sophisticated trendy.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat FoodThe lamb was absolutely to die for; perfectly seasoned, cooked exactly medium, presented beautifully (not that I was concerned with that last part once I took a bite). The duck was scrumptious as well and I was pleased we tried it.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food at The Source isThe food at The Source is always excellent -- impeccably cooked and presented. Food, service and hospitality have been always on top3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMSleek, beautiful decor andSleek, beautiful decor and stylish ambiance. Food was good but did not warrant the prices or live up to the atmosphere. Excellent dishes were tuna tartare and lacquered duckling. Silken Tofu was downright boring, and salads, lo mein and fish were good-not-great.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMTaking a guest from out-of-townTaking a guest from out-of-town to the Saturday dim sum brunch is the way to go... Sharing a selection of truly beautiful dishes in a lovely environment is hard to beat anywhere in DC. As always, the Duck Bao Buns were one of the stars, but the Dan Dan Dumplings, Wild Mushroom Dumplings, Turnip Cakes and other dishes were all wonderful. Anya provided perfect service along with some good recommendations.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperbThey did a great job helping me celebrate a friends birthday.
