Diner Reviews
  • "Service - not so much. When we entered the restaurant we thought the ambience was great but all wondered where the staff was? We waited to be noticed for about 5 minutes before we were greeted. It was another five after being seated before we saw our waitress....whom was pretty much MIA for the entire night. We waited about fifteen minutes for wine and then had to ask her to come over and take our orders (once she came out of the back) about another 15 minutes later. This was the theme for the night. Two of us had fish and chips (soggy as if it sat too long), mac and cheese was very good, caprese salad was very good, the rest was unremarkable. It's too bad because we liked the place but won't return as the service was terrible."

  • "Wonderful time with family. Food was fantastic.Shrimp were huge and cooked perfect. Char delicious. Burger was delicious as well as the chicken. The wide variety selections for all palates. Will definitely be back."

  • "Perfect setting on a Friday night. We sat outside by one of the fire pits. Great service and the Fish and Chips were only $12 on Friday. Moved into the bar for a little people watching after dinner. Good looking crowd with more women than men."

  • "Brunch is not expensive here and on a nice day you can sit outside. The patio was nice for our large group with large picnic tables. Food came out quick and the bloody marry and mimosa were just right."

  • "The restaurant was not busy, so we were seated quickly outside with menus. Nutshell: long waits between service for mediocre food. 15min for waitress to get our order/acknowledge our presence. We ordered veggie scramble, oatmeal, and 2 eggs any style. 30 minutes to get breakfast (began to think they forgot our order. 45min. to bring a spoon requested at very beginning (one didn't even come with oatmeal, had to re-request). Milk in coffee and glass of milk were spoilt - 20min. to get replacement. Twice we got up and went inside to get service from the bartender because waitress couldn't be found. 20min to get bill, 10mins to get change. 11:30am-1:30pm service...we were not planning on a leisurely day of waiting for service at our table."

  • "Great service, great food, great atmosphere, great music. Totally enjoyed our dining experience and definitely will return. "

  • "We had quite a few dishes among our party of four, ranging from outstanding to poor. The poor dish was the braised chard, which was overly salty and had an off taste; we sent it back and it was taken off the bill. The best dishes were the savory beignets and the fried chicken, and the seasonal vegetables, which were perfectly cooked. The service was fair; our waitress was intermittently attentive, seemingly more interested in selling additional cocktails than seeing if food was satisfactory. Also, she listed specials for us and then returned to inform us that one would only be available after 7 (we dined at 6:15), which was annoying. She also told us after we ordered espresso that they had only decaf."

  • "Our waiter acted as though he was too good to work there. Other than taking our order, the only other time we saw him was when he brought the check ... he spent all of his time hanging around the bar watching baseball. The bus boy did all the work (well, brought a cold coffee refill). The food was tasty but 3 out of 6 plates were cold, we received uncooked biscuits (2 not 4 as told to us by our waiter), only one refill on coffee and we had one carafe if water that never got refilled. This was my third and last time eating at this establishment. They are in dire need of a wait staff makeover! If you do still decide to eat here, DO NOT let the stocky bald guy wait on you, trust me. "

  • "Major faux pas in serving $ 99 bottle of Pinot Noir that was cold (not room temperature). Even worse when our server tried to say it was within normal range and was certainly not."

  • "Went with a friend for happy hour - we both enjoy good wine and interesting/inventive appetizers (vs. bar grub). The Social Club did not offer either. We ordered off the happy hour menu plus the dinner menu. However, could not order happy hour drinks "because we weren't sitting at the bar" - we wanted a table. The parmesan/rosemary french fries that were served in a cone were dripping with grease - so much so that grease blobs dripped onto our table and the waiter had to come by and clean off all the grease. Very unappetizing. Fried pickles cooked in same oil as fish...tasting fishy. Baked oysters - no taste. The trout crudo that was good, as was the flank steak small plate. The wines by the glass were "fair". Would not go back."

  • "The food was great; the server was average, with no personality and it was very noisy. I would try it again for brunch or outdoor dining, as the food was terrific. The two things that I had (kale salad and vegetable stew) were great!"

  • "We had a delicious meal of salmon and chicken, both items perfectly cooked. The waiter was attentive and informative and the food fantastic. I will definitely return!"

  • "We've dined at Social Club on 7 occasions. All but one time brought guests. Food is very good and wait staff informed and welcoming. The hostess leaves much to be desired. We have never arrived without a reservation. Most recent difficulty on a Tuesday night I requested a booth for our party of four.. Was told they were reserved. O.K. We were seated. During our drinks, appetizer, entrée and dessert, no one was seated in the booths. I asked the hostess about this and she said they had downsized. Her attitude was snippy to say the least. I know a pleasant reception sets the tone for a nice evening. Please make your hostess aware of our complaint. The restaurant was not at all busy and we could have been accommodated."

  • "We planned a romantic dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant has a great location - easy parking in the garage next door. It was crowded, but they found a nice table for us. The music was louder than we expected. It seemed to be more of a bar scene than romantic restaurant, although lots of people were at the tables in addition to the bar. Our waiter appeared exhausted, and he explained he had been working there already for more than 8 hours continuously. He was dressed in a t-shirt. And, while he was polite and did all that a waiter should do, his obvious exhaustion and dressed-down look took away from the dining experience. Also, back to the music. The entire time we were there they played most of Saturday Night Fever. Food was great!"

  • "Our first choice was out then the waitress didn't come back for a while for our next selection so we didn't get it until our dinner arrived."

  • "When they called to confirm the reservation, I was read the Rules, and it was done with attitude, very cold. Being it was our first time that we were going there, we almost cancelled . Upon arriving everyone was nice, friendly, and helpful. The food was very good and the service very casual but friendly. The music just added to an already noisy room. Go for the food and the friendly service."

  • "If you want a lively and load place to have dinner, this is the spot. The service was not great, but it was really busy. We had a party of four and two of us enjoyed our entree. The Little Gem Salad was very good. Two of us had the fried chicken. It was dry, and the coating lacked seasoning. I would not get it again. I would however go back and try this restaurant for brunch."

  • "Petaluma is lucky to have this place. My only complaint is that the rock n roll is way too loud but they did turn down the volume when we asked. It looks like an old place that's been updated. Very comfortable & really great foods. Clams, great chicory salad, trout riiliet, mac n cheese."

  • "We enjoyed this place a lot! Actually,it was our second pick beause we could make our reservation at a another Petaluma resturant. Overall,it was very pleasant and had great music! We felt energized and positive when we left. Good job SC staff!"

  • "Went here for New Year's eve and was disappointed. Food and service were not bad, but nothing was special about it at all. The dining rooms feel somewhat cafeteria or banquet-hall ish."

  • "I've been to Social Club before and really liked it. But that night, everything was off. The hostess had an attitude, until she finally seemed to realize it and became more friendly. However, the friendliness seemed to extend to someone in our party who was closer to her age, since she barely gave me the time of day. She also seemed irritated that our table needed to be reset to accommodate a baby, and implied that we should have said something earlier. Our server was a gem. She was friendly, smiling and working around the baby didn't seem to phase her. This restaurant really isn't great for a larger group with an infant. Unfortunately, my food was overcooked, dry and the flavors on the plate never really came together. A disappointment."

  • "No pretensions whatsoever. A comfortable eatery with a warm feel. The food was delicious and satisfying. My mother-in-law, who is picky, loved the food (she had the pork chop), and it's not easy to please her. The bar, situated in the middle of the restaurant, can be noisy, but we dined on a Wednesday night (1/2 off glass of wine night!) and the noise level was fine. Service was friendly and courteous. Would definitely return to!"

  • "We were a party of 4 and three of us were early to the restaurant and decided to have drinks at the bar before we were due to be seated (about an hour before our reservation). It was not busy, they had two bartenders but it was a huge wait to get service. The bartender may make good drinks (so I've heard - I ordered wine) but he seemed so disineterested in serving us, it was very frustrating. One person in our group waited almost 20 minutes to get a beer. I finally had to get the hostess involved just to get our check so we could close out and go to our table. However, the food was very good. I highly recommend the figs. They are fresh, sweet and salty with the generous chunks of crispy bacon. Everyone enjoyed their food."

  • "This was our first time at The Social Club. We dined with friends. We had a nice booth and great meal. We each ordered a different entree . The beet salad was wonderul as was the roasted salmon, pork chop and, steak. We will be back!"

  • "The food was almost good. We were rooting for it to get better as we ate it. But it just wasn't there. The shrimp and polenta is very saucy, but whole shrimp with the heads and skin on made it difficult to eat and not get all over everything. The presentation was good, but you couldn't eat it without making a huge mess. The pulled pork looked amazing! But there was no sauce at all on the pork... none. As we ate it, we agreed that we were hoping it would get better. But it didn't. Even the mac and cheese, which is typically off the charts, needed salt and pepper. Like it was missing the gouda all together. Our waitress had a table of 10, as well. Which make the drinks flow slowly, and added a bit of frustration. Bummer."

  • "The app was really yummy. We got the pork belly. Entrees were very salty but overall good. Second time I've been here and the entrees were salty. Drinks were delicious. And the service was great!"

  • "So, to keep to the main points ... the food was very good, surprisingly good. Here's the problem. When they have live music, the place is TOO LOUD to even attempt a conversation in the main room. Halfway through our meal we had to request a move to the side dining room (which by then had cleared out a little). There, it was slightly better, so we could hear each other and enjoy our entree. Go on a weeknight, without the music, then go back for the music if you like, and a drink, but dine elsewhere while the band's playin'. It was just TOO LOUD. The musician/singer were really good, that's not the problem. Dining in a bar with not thoughts for acoustics, turned a good dining experience, into a bad choice .... for many of the diners"

  • "This restaurant executes a great combination of homey food with an upscale twist. I ordered their roast chicken entree because the description was so appetizing. I never order chicken when I go to a restaurant because it is usually boring compared to other choices. It was excellent...juicy, not overcooked, and the sides that came with it perfectly balanced in terms of playing with acidity, saltiness & spiciness. Loved it! We will definitely come back. I can see how this restaurant may be loud & busy on a weekend night. The bar is located in the middle of the restaurant which radiates noise throughout. However, we were there mid-week and it was not an issue."

  • "I went to this restaurant because I had a coupon. Food was greats nd the waitress was super friendly. Had an heirloom tomato salad with just the right amount of balsamic. The roast chicken was great as was the salmon. How can you go wrong with a chocolate brownie for dessert. I will definitely go back and maybe bring my husband next time!"

  • "Our dinner was fabulous. The food was amazing, from the corn soup starter through to the entire dessert menu choices we sampled (a group of 4, we ordered one of each and shared - best decision we made!). Service was SO slow - our waitress was fantastic, but she seemed to be the only server working and that was extremely frustrating. Has she had any help, the service would have been 5 star as well. On the pricier side, but food held up to price. They had a local musician playing, he was fantastic and added to the ambiance. Would definitely recommend for a date night, special occasion etc."

  • "Food and service were excellent. We had a table at the edge of the bar. Agree with previous reviews stating that one can hear expletives and there can be a swarming and loud group of 20-30 year olds at the bar. Not really appropriate for families or even dates on a Saturday night. However, it is a "social club" and people were having fun...as did we. As long as they spend money, the loud 20-30 year olds are worth it...if they don't, the owners should get rid of them as they probably drive a lot of business away."

  • "My wife and I went to the Social Club for our anniversary and enjoyed the food and the wine very much. Our server was very helpful with suggestions and made the evening very pleasant. The salted crème desert was a great way to finish off the meal."

  • "This restaurant has more potential than we got to experience. The service was off, forgot to give us menus, server was over booked on tables and no one came to our table for quite awhile. Think they all stayed up too late the night before. Food was good. The smoked short rib hash was amazing, but need more meat less potato. They ran out of their signature biscuits. Two really good cocktails made by the bartender who was also moving a little slow. Maybe next time."
