Friday is great soul music and classic R&B and Saturdays it's Caribbean music with classics from Bob Marley to Harry Belafonte. You crave old school "dining and dancing" this is it! From the red leather banquets to the waiters that all seem to be original to the entertainer singing along to the synthesizer keyboard, it was all great. The food was generous and good. Exactly what one should love about a steakhouse. Best steak: Porterhouse! The bar gives very generous pours, so you'll need a designated driver. The cheese bread is murder -- we went through 2 baskets full. The place has been a staple in SoCal for 66 years. It's barely changed, and bless them for that! I placed a reservation online, indicated in the special notes that I would like one of their best tables as this is for our anniversary. They gave use a nice little table in the corner, right by the fire place away from other tables. At the end of the night, our waiter surprised us with a cake and candle on top. It was so nice and special. Food was EXCELLENT. Bread was amazing, as always. My boyfriend's steak wasn't cooked right the first time - he ordered medium rare, and he got a well done steak. The second time around it was still wasn't prepared right, but he accepted it and he enjoyed it anyway. Overall, it was a great dinning experience. In fact, this table should be totally redone to make it right. It was in a booth and was too big for the booth. We could not fit between the table and he chair back. In addition the table was tilted badly. I was afraid that glasses might slide off onto the floor. I was astonished that the Smoke House would have such a table. There was a brief change in the prime-rib,but that was quickly changed once the word got out. Do change the the furniture! You have lots of old clientele that have going their for decades. Lots of old money if you know what I mean.

There was a stretch in the 1990s when we were there for brunch a couple of times a month. In my estimation, very little has changed in that time -- which is just the way I like it. The big change this last time was the location of the buffet, which had been moved from the center dining room to the smaller, adjacent room. That crowded things a bit, but it was Easter. The buffet is good. I generally make three passes. Round one is the standard breakfast, with Eggs Benedict, bacon, and maybe some hash browns or vegetables. Round two is Roast Beef. Round three is pasta, which is made to order. (Don't skimp on the garlic.)
