The Smith - MidtownLunch time HangoutWent for lunch and getting a reservation was relatively easy. If we hadn't have had one though we never would have got in! This place was in full swing and rightfully so. My friend and I split the mussels and fries, tuna tartare, and jalapeno grits. We're both from the south and are usually grits snobs, but at the Smith they do them justice! I will certainly be returning for lunch and after work drinks.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently good brunchMy go to spot for a delicious brunch with great service!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMdelicious brunchLove this place for brunch! Awesome neighborhood spot... my favorite has to be the vanilla bean french toast... their rancheros scramble is really good also, they give like a whole avocado - love it! free mimosas with select entrees, who doesnt want that? plus their fresh squeezed orange juice is really good also.. great crowd, wonderful waitstaff and super busy...reservations are recommended since its busy - i make reservations everywhere i go on opentable so i get points = cash! i think this place is good for kids, i bring my baby here and i see others bringing kids also5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were seated promptly. HadWe were seated promptly. Had great service and great food throughout. Almost too noisy to have meaningful conversation though.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Service!!I brought a group of 13 business travelers to The Smith and was thrilled with our experience. Our server was fantastic- maybe a bit overcommited- but her recommendations were SPOT ON! Starters were great- not too greasy or pub-like. The noise level was as other diners reported- but okay for our needs. Even eating early (6:15) it was hard to carry on a conversation just 2 seats away- and supposedly we were in the 'quiet' room in the back- can't imagine what the bar was like. Pleasantly surprised with final bill- about $50/person- with plenty of starters, drinks, and even shared desserts. Overall great experience, food and service are what you'd expect in NYC.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways love the smith! TheAlways love the smith! The salmon and trout are delicious but the BEST thing is the fried green beans...mmm5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunch FunAlways great for Sunday brunch. Vibrant atmosphere5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSmith Midtown Great for BrunchHad brunch with 4 other people, great customer service, and food was outstanding. French toast is a must try along with egg white omelet with goat cheese. Smores in a jar was also great. A bit loud, but not unbearable.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMnoisy, in-placeHad lunch here with 8 friends. I chose The Smith because of location and reviews. Food was excellent and the menu was extensive with something to please everyone in our group. Our only complaint was the noise. With tile floors and walls the noise was really bothersome. It's pretty but not sound muffling. It's a busy place--obviously popular and the food is the reason. The noise is pretty ypical for Manhattan restaurants these days.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent dining experienceThis is a trendy restaurant but the service was outstanding. Our waiter was very friendly and not at all pushy or hurrying us even though we were pretty slow to order and leave (we drank a lot, that usually helps). The food was pretty good, not quite as great as I had hoped (maybe I ordered the wrong things and I think I was so full from the delish mac and cheese app and delish deviled eggs app, that I couldnt properly appreciate my meal). My trout meal was okay, but a little dry and a little heavy. My bf's pork chop was really good and all apps were delish. My favorite part was the smores jar dessert, that was amazing! I would definitely go back, loved the trendy but laid back vibe. Its a huge space! I recommend5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMHigh energy and Good FoodVery good food, great service but dont go here if you want a quiet intimate dinner.
Very up beat and bustling5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything we wantedVisiting NY for the weekend, we wanted a good brunch spot for us and two friends. We got exactly what we wanted. Great drinks (spicy bloody mary) and great food. We had a mix of breakfast and lunch staples and all were cooked perfectly, tasted amazing, and satisfied us greatly. Will definitely recommend and go back for dinner or lunch.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for brunch, the foodWe went for brunch, the food was delicious and the service was outstanding! We will most certainly return.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always super service and foodThe Saturday night Paella was super but beware the helping was amazing so no room for desert, excellent and attentive service, however wasnt overwhelming. We will be back for sure.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMTerrific lunch spotFun atmosphere and really good food with a varied menu. I work nearby, and have taken both clients and friends here. Only been here midweek for lunch, and its a treat every time. Only complaint is noise level. It's very loud.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot for casual diningThe Smith Midtown is in my neighborhood and I eat there at least once a week. Always fresh oysters, well cooked meals, nice cocktails, pleasant waiters and reasonable prices. Not a place to just drop by, even hard to get a seat at the bar if coming normal brunch, lunch and dinner times. Reservations are almost a must! The wine by carafe can definitely be better. Recommend choosing the bottled wines or beer rather than the carafe wine.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMRecommendFinally - A beautiful Spring day and arrive to see the the doors all wide open, so that was immediately appreciated. Had been told their burger was great, and was not disappointed (although I asked for it rare, and it came medium). Had the fried calamari - comes with a tasty chunky spicy tomato sauce, was delicious. Thought wine list should have at least 1 or 2 less expensive bottles of wine (since this is not a FINE dining place)... you still need a bottle that would be at least between $32-36 (I think the least expensive was $44? - that's a bit high). Our waitress was very attentive and perfectly charming/sweet. was VERY busy scene for midtown after work crowd. recommend! (already have actually)4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThe little thingsExcellent experience, lovely service and great people watching. It's a small thing, but the complimentary sparkling water really sets this place apart from similar restaurants. Feels as though they're actually putting their customers' satisfaction above the bottom line. And that's something that would keep me coming back... and splurging on extra food and drinks!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMHigh energy. The only quietHigh energy. The only quiet tables are booths and there are few of them. Loved the fresh oysters, Brooklyn style fried calamari and mussels with fries. Ask for extra sauce for calamari. Young singles abound but mature diners welcomed too. It is not a romantic date place but food is comforting and the people watching is extensive.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMToo noisy, have to yell toToo noisy, have to yell to have conversation with friends4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMI don't go out to eat thatI don't go out to eat that much anymore, but I have to say I love The Smith. The quality of the food is fantastic, the staff is so nice, even starting with the front desk. I make an effort when anyone suggest meeting for dinner to come to one of your restaurants.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a relaxed, pleasantAlways a relaxed, pleasant experience, no matter which location. Definitely a must experience on the list of things to do while in NYC. Great atmosphere, very cozy, and amazing comfort food.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunch at The Smith is Fabulous!Love The Smith - was at Midtown this time. Make reservations during peak times, otherwise the wait can be 45 minutes or more. Brunch is fantastic - but the entire menu is so inventive and well thought-out. Great energy. It is very loud - but that is part of the charm. Recommend unconditionally. FYI, if you have young children - let them know. They have tables that will give you room for a stroller or high chair - kid-friendlier than a lot of place in NYC.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome for business lunchAwesome for business lunch I couldn't ask for better.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Spot for lunchGo for lunch/brunch only. Never tried dinner. Waiting for warmer weather when they open huge doors which is always nicer. Food never disappoints. The Midtown location is PERFECT for large groups. We brought some out of town coworkers here and they loved sampling all the delicious treats. Big hit! Will think of the Smith again when needing space for a large group!4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMA little bit loud at times,A little bit loud at times, especially when you're sitting immediately next to another table. Food and service are very good and waiters' are all very attentive.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for Sunday brunchWe went for Sunday brunch and had a great time. It was hard to choose among the many egg items. Our waitperson was laid back and professional at the same time. It felt like a leisurely meal, even though we were done in an hour. We'd definitely go back.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMIf you're looking for a niceIf you're looking for a nice date spot this might not be it because of the noise level but it had a very fun ambiance and the food was great! The staff was attentive but not intrusive.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMHospitality matters! The Smith is a happening morning to midnight spot. The wide menu means there are a few hits and misses but generally good. If only the maitre d could be forced to attend the Danny Meyer school of hospitality- persistent frown, always a feeling that you are being sized up, abrupt and unfriendly- and this is on many occasions as I live around the corner and frequently find myself here. It would add immensely to the enjoyment to be greeted with a smile or even (heavens!) to be recognized after your 9th or 10th visit. I know that they are successful but this goes against the general happy vibe of the place4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMBoth locations are consistentExcellent food and service. Lively and "energetic."4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service and food. WeGreat service and food. Tone down the music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFriendly service, great food,Friendly service, great food, nice atmosphere. Highly recommend this restaurant. We were a little concerned about all of the reviews that mentioned the noise level but we didn't find it to be that noisy on the Saturday night that we visited. We'll definitely go again - maybe we'll try the brunch next time!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food, energetic, greatGood food, energetic, great service. More casual than expected...would not say this is a special occasion destination. Loved the gnocchi!! My only criticism would be the plates were too small...more lunch size.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed our lunch tremendouslyWe enjoyed our lunch tremendously and would visit again when in NY City!3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall very good. The serviceOverall very good. The service was solid. Our server, realizing we were there for a while, did not rush us in the least, but was incredibly attentive and the food was very good as well.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMSecond time I've been hereSecond time I've been here for dinner and the food was amazing - along with the cocktails. Service was great but not on top of you and everything came out quickly. Great scene and place to go either for a drink or special occasion. I hear their brunch is amazing too.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat bar, cool setting andGreat bar, cool setting and a nice casual place to eat.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMReally enjoyed the restaurant,Really enjoyed the restaurant, the food was amazing, the waitress was delightful and very patient with our group. Based on the noise level when I walked in I thought it would be impossible to hear conversation when seated, but the design of the room was fantastic and absorbed the excessive noise so we could easily hear each other. Will definitely go back, probably this week.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMawesome food and great vibeawesome food and great vibe for brunch with family and friends. i love the diversity of the brunch menu and greatly appreciated being seated while waiting for my friends to arrive, since i made a reservation :)3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best dinners I'veOne of the best dinners I've ever had. Great drinks and the food is great3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Smith - Midtown is theThe Smith - Midtown is the only Smith restaurant I've visited and I love it. The Bloody Mary's are perfect and delicious and the beer battered green beans are not to be missed. I have loved every item I've tried from the menu (calamari, chips and blue cheese fondue, vegetarian bibimbap, orecchiette to name a few). They have great wine, beer and cocktail selections. Have eaten lunch, dinner and brunch here and enjoyed each experience. I do wish I remembered the name of the waiter I had at dinner because he was patient, knowledgeable, very attentive and nice. The service has been great each time.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
