Diner Reviews
  • "The Smith Midtown has great food and drinks and the service is quick and attentive. The problem is that they squeeze too many diners into the low-ceiling space, and the resulting noise level is just unbearable. It was so loud that my ears actually hurt for a few hours afterwards!"

  • "This restaurant was so loud we couldn't hear anything. I stopped in the day before my reservation to speak to a manager about getting a quiet table in the back, and was assured they would accommodate us- we got the noisiest table in the place, between the bar and the front door. Although the hostess was nice about the issue there was nothing they could do to fix the fact that we couldn't hear each other or the waitress."

  • "Took a group of 12 here for a work dinner and it went off without a hitch. Service was very accommodating to everyone's needs and the restaurant made a last minute addition to our reservation."

  • "Great place. It was hard to have a conversation with a party of 8. Good was very good though the drinks were short on alcohol It seemed. Nice neighborhood place"

  • "Very good food, service and overall ambiance. Definitely will need reservations no matter where you go. Place is loud as noted, but did not take away from our meal. Only issue to note is their alcoholic drinks are pre-mixed and subpar."

  • "Really solid food, solid service. Great experience overall!"

  • "Ate at The Smith for 4th of July. Nothing impressive about the place other than the guys that kept busing the tables. The food had no seasoning and was quite overpriced for such small portions. The drinks though at one time would've been appreciated were heavily laced with alcohol. At one point, I even witnessed the bartender make himself a drink. The table we were seated at was far too small for anyone to be comfortable but all the tables were small."

  • "Went for dinner with a group, we began with drinks and ordered a three appetizers, the drinks came but the appetizers took over 35 minutes to arrive! Then when the meal came, one of the dinners was clearly forgotten, both the server and manager apologized and said it will be out very shortly and when the bill came they still charged for the one meal they forgot ! The quality of the food was good and no one had any complaints in that area. They just need to work on better service with groups."

  • "Good food and service. Excellent house-made sodas. But definitely too loud for a normal conversation."

  • "A yummy, cheery restaurant. Was not crowded on the holiday weekend but still energetic. Staff lovely. Food fresh! Thank you!"

  • "Food was great as well as the service. It was a beautiful night and we were able to get a table by the open doors, which made the dinning experience much better."

  • "The Smith never disappoints, consistently good food and drinks! Also were able to accommodate a very last minute reservation so kudos for that."

  • "The Smith has a great and broad menu. The food is excellent. And it is modestly price for Manhattan. But not cheap!"

  • "Awesome chips and mac & cheese Great brunch spot. Cool and hip."

  • "This is the third time I have been to The Smith in the last three months while visiting NY and I look forward to going back again. You are always greeted by very friendly staff and the service could not be more attentive. I think their menu is perfect whether for brunch, lunch or dinner. I don't think anyone would be disappointed."

  • "We went for an early lunch & I ordered the smoked salmon Benedict; I definitely recommend trying it. Everything was delicious and the drinks were well made. I had the Passion Punch. I was with three friends and everyone loved what they had ordered. I would most certainly visit again!"

  • "I came here craving their meatball appetizer but they had just changed their menu for the summer. We over ordered knowing the food would be delicious. The burrata is incredible. Great flavor. The salmon tartare was pretty standard. Chicken Caesar salad had the best flavor and moisture I've had in grilled chicken in a long time and it is served with a Parmesan cheese crust. So good. The grilled shrimp entree was also delicious, served with grits. I would definitely recommend going here and sharing a few different dishes with someone so you can try different things. Worth it!"

  • "We came in for breakfast and were out within the hour, thanks to their quick service. This was exactly what we wanted as we had to go to work afterwards. As usual, the food was delicious and the coffee was strong."

  • "We ordered the lobster salad and were very upset that for the $29 there was barely any lobster. The manager graciously took it back and we each ended up with a delicious meal--but be warned about the lobster salad."

  • "The smith is consistently good - the food and their options make it a great place to go for all types . However - if you have anyone joining you that is over 5'7 they might be uncomfortable - the tables are small and low - their knees will knock the table ."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "service was terrible and tables so close I couldn't have a conversation sitting across the table from me it was soo loud"
    Dined on 6/24/2014
  • "Tough to find good raw bar restaurants but Smith is one! Great selection at reasonable prices. Can't say much about the rest of the menu except that I liked the ceviche and tuna tartar. You get my drift? Only raw"

  • "Easily able to get a reservation here at short notice, but luckily because restaurant filled very quickly. Good menu selection for lunch, good food at good value prices. Service a little slow, but understandable given how busy. Surprisingly noisy."
    Dined on 6/24/2014
  • "Good food, quick and good service. A little too noisy, but in line with the awaited environemnt. Vero good the online booking one our before to go."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Food was fine; service was good; place was super-crowded and noisy as all hell. And it was a Monday night. Conversation was virtually impossible and I probably heard more of the conversation from the table next to me than our own. A frustrating dining experience."
    Dined on 6/23/2014
  • "Food was great as always, service was too. Would have loved a seat near the open frontage."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "Bacon and Pecan sticky bun was good, but I was underwhelmed by my main dish (huervo rancheros with eggs)."
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "The tomato soup with the bread and melted cheese on top was the best tomato soup I ever had! The Caesar salad was fresh with homemade dressing. My husband's eggs and bacon with homefries were good....we will definitely come back!! Loved the menu!! Service was good/attentive."
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "Love the salads, burgers, raw bar, appetizers, should I go on! Food is always great. Nice atmosphere."

  • "Drinks are great... Food was awesome... People were great. I just did not like my small table but it made our visit cozy."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "Very good breakfast. Went here on a weekday for breakfast and it was great. I heard it gets very loud and crowded at night though"
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "The food is variable - always good, but not always exceptional. The room can also get quite loud. However, it still makes for a great lunch setting as they have a great menu selection and often the simpler foods are well done, and the crowds and noise are a little easier in the summer when the doors near the bar are open. All in all, actually a very nice lunch setting for small groups (I wouldn't go over 4 because of the noise levels)."
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "Nice.but a noise level is very high!!it s a good place for feel happy!!"
    Dined on 6/17/2014
  • "Great food and atmosphere, but noise levels were into the decibels."
    Dined on 6/17/2014
  • "The floor to ceiling tiles are attractive to look at but create an echo chamber effect when the restaurant is full. Better to go at off hours for better service and to be able to hear your dining companions."

  • "Had another great meal at The Smith. Their French toast is to die for and the smoked salmon Benedict is one of my favorites anywhere. Highly recommend."

  • "LOVED The Smith - fab drink list at the bar which we stayed at for an hour - our table was ready - we were having so much fun! The Rose Rose in a big glass was fun to toast with - we walked from Broadway - to escape the annoying crowds of Times Square - to a beautiful neighborhood - started with the blue cheese/chip combo - which frankly could use a lot more blue cheese - more of a bland creamy taste - but the asparagus was excellent and we all died over the mac and cheese. My entree was the mussels - delicious - ask for a piece of grilled bread to soak up all the wonderful broth - the trout was cooked perfectly - for dessert we all loved the cc cookies - loved sitting by the huge outside doors - all and all we will be back!"

  • "The food is quite good but the noise level is atrocious. Do not even consider this place if you want to hold a conversation."
