Diner Reviews
  • "Brought some family from out of town for an early evening dinner. Had a wonderful time, really great service and tasty food! I had asked ahead of time if the chef might be able to accommodate my medically-necessary low-to-zero sodium diet. Was delighted to find that the chef was very willing (I had offered to go for my standard boring green salad and balsamic if they were unable) and offered a squid ink tagliatelle pasta dish in addition to a few other options on the menu that could be prepared in accordance with my diet. Such a nice change to have real food that was carefully prepared and very tasty! "

  • "Food was great, service was great, but my guests and I had to yell at each other to be heard. I guess when the walls are all concrete sound gets trapped. Was kind of hard to enjoy our meal."

  • "The French Toast is amazing as are many of the egg dishes. Just beware, they do not serve alcohol until noon on Sundays!"

  • "I regularly choose The Smith for brunches and dinners with friends. As usual, the service and food were excellent - prompt seating, attentive waiter, and delicious meals. Well done :)"

  • "So loud we could not hear each other - they are doing construction out front and the staff refused to close the door. Been going on for months. Do not go here if you want to have a conversation."

  • "Came here with my family for my birthday. Great choice because there's a wide variety of options for those of us who are a bit picky. Everyone enjoyed the appetizers and was able to pick something for their main course that was their style. The mussels were delicious. I would recommend those and I think next time I'm going to try the shrimp and grits! Great salads to choose from also. Overall a great time at dinner before heading to a show."

  • "I've been here before but never for brunch. I came with a friend and the bloody mary was spicy and the meals were delicious. I got the Sicilian baked eggs that were top notch. Our server was extremely nice and was very attentive. I will definitely consider this again for brunch!"

  • "this is our 3rd time we've been to the Smith..but unfortunately our last. although the food and service is great, it is simply a horrible place to sit and have a conversation during dinner. the entire space is covered in porcelain tiles, (think public restroom on the jersey turnpike) and the acoustics are atrocious!!!!! too bad, it's a fun place, good food, great service....but just so unnecessarily loud."

  • "Very fun, typical NY restaurant. Large, but tables are very close, therefore Very noisy. Liked the food a lot."

  • "The Smith is a very good restaurant. I thought the food was really to notch and it has a cool vibe. It has a very vibrant bar scene and the entire restaurant is very noisy, which is okay sometimes! The young folks must love it! Maybe I'll try a Monday or Tuesday night next time instead of a Thursday. Had a wonderful meal regardless."

  • "Everything about this dining experience is great: the ambiance, the food variety, the excellence of each dish be it pasta or pot-pie or steak or the raw bar. The noise level is a little loud if you are wanting a quiet intimate dinner/lunch, but it is not too loud to be enjoyable if you like lively environments. It is the one place where a salad warrants $20+, where your food is just as delicious and well presented whether it's the burger or the filet mignon. The wine by the glass selection is good (the wine by the bottle list is fabulous but you have to be in a position to spend some serious cash to utilize it), but the price point of the wine is not as merited as the price-point of the food, in my opinion."

  • "we came here for my dad's birthday and the food was amazing!! the fluffiest egg white omelet i have ever had, and the drinks were good too. service was good, but it was really packed so it also felt a bit rushed. but overall great food, great location, and great atmosphere."

  • "Fun and noisy, the brioche French toast was amazing! Unfortunately, two of our party were gluten free and they couldn't enjoy the huevos Mexican-type dish, which had come highly recommended, because the salsa had gluten. That's just weird because salsa is usually safe.Keep some regular salsa on hand for such occasions.I ordered a virgin Bloody Mary which was absolutely delicious. Most bartenders just throw something together when I order without alcohol, but he took the time to make it perfect. I really appreciated this and asked the waiter to let him know."

  • "RESTAURANT LOOKS LIKE AN ENLARGED 1930'S CAFETERIA BUT IS A YOUNG ADULT HANGOUT. JAMMED AND NOISY AT BRUNCH BUT WELL PRICED WITH GOOD FOOD AND A LARGE MENU"

  • "We were in NY for a long weekend and staying in a new area of town. We wanted something close to the hotel, so we went to Open Table to review. Wery crowded, but our reservation on OT got us in right away. They did sit us in a quieter area, but we still had to shout to be heard. Food good, not great. I could see why it is popular with the 20-30 crowd… Wouldn't return though."

  • "They honor reservations! And had our table waiting on a Saturday night at 8:00pm! This is a nighttime hot spot for the mostly 20's-30's crowd, although you do see a smattering of parents (like us) here at night. The food is always dependable, the wait-staff is friendly and efficient. I really like the free sparkling water. No snobby bottles being sold for $8. You should enjoy yourself as the menu selections are extensive for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. This is not a romantic, dark restaurant, more bistro-like. white tile floor, industrial lighting, and comfortable booths and tables. Another thing are the clean bathrooms; that is always nice. They care, and it shows."

  • "In addition to the best steak and eggs on the planet, they have an amazing donut appetizer. I recommend everyone gets it."

  • "The Chef is probably the best in the city. seriously. some of the best food ive ever eaten. I would eat here every meal if I could--- service is great. Just make sure you have a reservation. All the staff there though is amazing & nice."

  • "Came here for breakfast and couldn't have chosen a better spot. From the blue chips to the vanilla bean french toast, The Smith does not miss a beat."

  • "Overall it was good. Only complaint was that they overcook my steak. Still a good steak though. Everything else was good. Vibrant place, fun to eat at."

  • "great service with waiters who genuinely take care of you, good food, a lot of people who makes the ambience lovely noisy: what would you want more?"

  • "We had quick service and wonderful food! Defintiely make a reservation because it was packed. Loved that we got refillls on tea because most places will just do that for coffee."

  • "Everything was great, the service was a little slow, perhaps busy brunch time period?"

  • "Great food, friendly efficient service. Even though the restaurant is very big and crowded (we were told that that was actually a slow night for them), I felt me and my friend were given plenty of personalized attention. I am now recommending The Smith - Midtown to all my friends, and will definitely come back here myself."

  • "Food is always consistent. The hostess was just ok. I don't think she's a morning person. My waitress was great. Very personable and outgoing."

  • "Arrived in New York suitably exhausted from all day travelling and this was a recommendation around the corner from our hotel. We made reservations before we travelled and booking is essential! It was packed! Which always tells a great story. We were greeted by friendly staff, shown to our table and left with the menus. Our waitress was highly efficient, happy to explain anything we wanted - although I found her a little smug!!! We ordered starters and mains and portions were large! I can recommend the burger, excellent, juicey and a mountain of chips, none of us could manage it all. In summary, great food, great service and a great atmosphere - highly recommended."

  • "Solid burger. Energetic feel. Made a reservation for 3 at 8:15, was not seated until 8:50."

  • "I continue to go back again and again for the brunch at The Smith. The choices on the menu are fantastic and the food is outrageous. I highly recommend it!"

  • "Brunch here was great! My friends went to the wrong Smith location and ended up 30 minutes late AND with an extra person in the party. We only waited about 10 minutes as a complete party before they sat us, which, as someone who works in a restaurant, I greatly appreciate. The food was amazing as always, I highly recommend the salmon Benedict and the sparkling pink cocktail with the rose liquor."

  • "The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The place was packed yet the waitress allowed for our party to chat and catch up with each other - some from out of town and hadn't seen each other for a while. The food was good and portions ample. Everyone seems to have a good time. You get the feeling that you are someplace that's happening. But it is very noisy. The subway tile decor allows the sound to amplify and come back to you."

  • "Found this place via the Lonely. It's absolutely great. Staff is very friendly, the waitress offered us to taste a beer we did not know but wanted to test. Had the potato chips with blue cheese dressing as an apetizer, so good and it's almost a meal itself. Next we took pasta, which was absolutely great and copious in quantity... The place is very lively so there is some "noise" but it's not disturbing at all, it makes the place very dynamic. I would definitely recommend and go back to test their other plates (and desserts)."

  • "Food is very good and the menu selection is pretty decent (even with healthy options). The beers on tap are mostly local and very good (try the Milk Stout). I like the ambiance; white tiles that make it look clean and sharp with dark wood seating for warmth. Overall it is a great place to eat with friends or even have a nice date."

  • "very very loud, perhaps because the entire restaurant is tile, but the front seemed to be more loud than the back. i would suggest requesting a seat towards the back."

  • "Absolutely phenomenal! Food is always delicious, service is great, and drinks are perfect. Would definitely recommend the mac and cheese and the BLT + E on a croissant. Steak and eggs were perfect as well. Never had a bad experience here, just keeps getting better every time. Might be turning into a regular!"
