Diner Reviews
  • "My husban a I go to the restaurant for brunch on our aniversary. It was very good place, the food was excellent. I will come back in other trip to New York."

  • "my husband and i were in the UWS one day and decided to stick around for dinner because we had had such an amazing meal here the last time we were in the area. in fact, we were breaking a fast, so really looking forward to dinner. too bad everything was pretty disappointing. we had to wait 20 minutes for a table (when we had reservations and tables were clearly free), the service was slow/uninterested, his caesar salad was SOAKED in dressing (really unappealing), the cavatelli was too salty, and the grilled shrimp was tasteless. this visit was a total bust."

  • "The donuts with chocolate dip--are a must have. From the standard Menu items (such as steak salad and burgers) to the brunch specials (pecan pancakes and strawberry waffles) everything is delicious. The service was timely and excellent, but you never felt rushed. It was great to see such a crowded establishment with the kitchen and staff so well equipped to handle it. You're in the middle of Lincoln Center and there are five other restaurants in view (all of a pretty high caliber) and yet The Smith is not stuffy int he least, equally good for young adults in the mood for drinking options or for those adults who are bringing the kids. I suggest making a reservation (they will keep track of it at this location unlike the midtown east one)."

  • "The main complaint is the noise level is ear splitting. So loud we almost left. The food was plain but well-prepared. Good fries and the medium rare steak was actually medium rare. The agave lemonade with mint was fabulous! Our waitress was great. My elderly, picky mother fussed over her salad and the waitress picked up on her unhappiness and took the initiative to help her exchange her salad for something else without double-charging her. The waitress was wonderfully sensitive and helpful. The busboy, on the other hand, was slow to respond to a request for a clean fork. Instead of giving me one from the table he was setting, next to us, he finished that setting and returned 5-10 minutes later with a fork. Not logical, to say the least."

  • "The tables were very close together and the restaurant was noisy. My salad with chicken was ok and my friends burger was also just fair. The service was good and they did not rush us."

  • "we ordered a smattering of things from the menu - tasteless, unattractively plated and thrown at you - noisy enough to think you were at a rock concert - popular but i have no reason to understand why except that prices are very kind its been an hour since we left and i still have indigestion"

  • "This was fourtha nd last time at restaurant. Service was fair at best. Had to ask for everything twice - maybe because it's so loud in that place that you cannot speak to the person next to you. Eat outside if you go."

  • "Delicious brunch!! The corned beef hash and croaker where outstanding. Super crowded and loud."

  • "So wanting a quick brunch on the west side I made a reservation at The Smith. We've eaten here before but not for brunch. Well we will not be going back, the service was slow at best and the noise level was unbearably loud. The good as always was tasty and well cooked, but that alone is not worth my time and money."

  • "We love this place - food is yummy and the atmosphere is lively and fun. Great for meeting friends, casual on the weekends, noisy at night time so not ideal for business meetings. I have taken out of towners here and they loved it too."

  • "great menu, great service, but very LOUD. Perfect location across from Lincoln Center"

  • "1st time at this location - all was excellent. We had a group of 11 and the waitstaff was very attentive and accommodating. Will definitely return."

  • "Food and service were very good considering the busy neighborhood and several competing restaurant choices. If not in conversation, good for people watching."
    Dined on 7/15/2014
  • "Pre-service - easy to book online, immediate confirmation, phone call to remind - I really appreciated those. Noise level too much for conversation across the table - we were limited to speaking to person immediately next. Food - terrific. Service - very pleasant, a little slow, but understandly so."

  • "Visited for brunch with a friend and we were not seated until almost 30 minutes after our reservation time despite our timely arrival. We were seated in the back room which has horrendous acoustics and had to practically shout to have a conversation. Food (eggs benedict and egg white omlette) was good but not in any way memorable."

  • "The Smith is convenient to Lincoln Center, the food was average and the service fairly attentive. If you are attending a performance at the Center by all means try it. The people watching is entertaining. If you are not, you can do better for food, service and decor elsewhere."

  • "I was prepared to love the Smith, but I didn't. In my opinion, Mermaid Inn does a much better job on the seafood side, and the rest was just fine."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "Enjoyed a delicious dinner here prior to the theater at Lincoln Center. We were especially impressed at how quickly the kitchen was able to turn around our meal and still yield delicious results. Service was friendly but superfast, and we arrived at our show with time to spare."

  • "Since we live in the neighborhood, this is one of our restaurants of choice. Whether you want to eat a lot or a little, The Smith can offer it. The Burrata is excellent as was the Salmon. You cannot leave without having the Banana Cream Pie in the jar. Keep up the great work."

  • "Our waitress was friendly, helpful and informative, but her attitude changed when we opted to have no dessert."

  • "Good food, efficient wait staff and nice ambience. Gets mega busy for Sunday brunch so book ahead!! Will definitely return. Does a nice Bloody Mary!"

  • "We only had a little time before catching our train and the waitstaff made sure our food came quickly without feeling rushed. Casey G was highly attentive, friendly and courteous. The kale and quinoa salad was well balanced and the mushroom omelet was tasty. Will definitely return on my next visit to NYC."

  • "The services is slow and not good. Waiters and bus boys are very slow."

  • "I was able to try two items from the menu and was impressed with both, and many other dishes piqued my interest. Service was very good, attentive without being obtrusive. My only complaint is the noise level - it was very hard to hear the person next to me. The interior is tiled, so perhaps there is little they can do about it, but I hope they will try."

  • "The Smith is always reliable for a good experience and great food. For brunch, I particularly recommend the Potato Waffle Benedict."

  • "I had lunch before attending a performance of ABT, The Smith is convenient to Lincoln Center, the food was good as were the servers who too care of us. The servers were very attentive and warm. The noise level was energetic, it didn't interfere with table conversation and it gave me an "up" feeling which added to the enjoyment."

  • "Went for brunch, the vanilla bean French toast was awesome. Server was a little slow and inatentive."
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "Huge portions of tasty American bar and comfort food amidst a loud and lively crowd. The chips, peppers and deviled eggs bolster high calorie togetherness. A young crowded crowd and party atmosphere. Little refinement, lotta fun."

  • "As always, The Smith never disappoints. The food and staff are always reliable...whether pre-theatre or just an evening out."

  • "We were thankful we made reservations, as it was busy at 11:45. My arugula, brie, and roasted chicken salad was exactly what I wanted, and the passion punch was delicious and light. The wait staff was attentive and very welcoming and funny. My bagel was a little "meh", mostly because it had been buttered and put on the griddle rather than toasted, but that is what I get for ordering a bagel and a non-bagel place! We got the "quarter pounder" cookies to go, and they were a great treat while walking around the park later in the day. Would highly recommend for brunch, they had a lot of great options and everyone in my party was very happy with their meal."
