  • "OK food..OK service.Not impressed.The waitress was MIA, much of the time. The special that night was fried chicken and the waitress suggested it.The meat was fatty and the breading was an inch thick and not very flavorful, Won't go back."

  • "I've been to The Smith several times and it was delicious as always. I had the tuna tartare and I love the kale quinoa salad and added salmon on top. For drinks I had a special Watermelon - Cucumber cocktail and I loved it, it was really refreshing. The service was great. The only thing I think they need to improve on is the bread. They don't get you that much bread and I feel like it doesn't look fancy being served in a white paper back. If they put it in a basket it would be much nicer (and wouldn't waste paper!) It also was pretty loud in there - I think if they had more table dividers it would hold the sound better."

  • "We weren't focused on limiting calories, and our reservations were at a tricky time for most restaurants (2 pm). We had the fried string beans - great tempura batter with enough salt that the Ranch dressing wasn't required. Then the chicken pot pie and trout schnitzel to follow - excellent. Their Moscow Mule wasn't good and wasn't served in a copper mug, so skip it. They did better with the Gimlet. The service had a sluggish start but improved somewhat over the course of the meal. The restaurant opens to the street but it's in a particularly busy area, so it's not a great outdoor dining spot."

  • "Upscale comfort food with choices for people who'd like something lighter - good salads (kale is excellent), fish (like the trout schnitzel). Drinks are good. Service is friendly and generally efficient. Biggest problem is noise level which makes conversation difficult."

  • "This is by far the nosiest restaurant in Manhattan. Although our wait staff tried to "scream" the specials to our table, most of our requests were obviously not heard as we had to send one dish back twice! They were gracious about it but they should refrain from opening the front of the restaurant as the truck noise from the street is unbearable Its too bad because the food could be enjoyed more if you could hear yourself think and if you did not have to dissuade the people walking up to the table and pan handling! Probably a better place to go for a drink or in cooler months when the restaurant is not open to street. This was an awful experience."

  • "Five of us sat at a booth for a delicious brunch, complete with accomodating and pleasant staff, great music in the background and a picture booth ($3 for 4 snapshots) downstairs near the bathroom. Also - the bathroom's many stalls are completely sealed off separate spacious little rooms. Lovely."

  • "a nicely eclectic but still limited menu, reliably done but do not expect anything out of the ordinary. Nothing much for veggies like me (two salads and a sandwich). Delightful service, Trader Joe style, genuinely friendly, they seem to want to help you out whenever you need it in spite of having to serve a good-sized room packed to the rafters with a bustling crowd of mostly college kids. It is very loud and full--mostly catering to the NYU, New School, Cooper Union and tri-boro out-of-towners the food can only be as good as their utilitarian demands."

  • "The Smith truly delivers! Everything that I and others have tried has been excellent. The pork chops are cooked perfectly and are simply delicious. The lobster rolls (a special on Fridays) are excellent. I love grits, and The Smith's jalapeno cheddar grits are the best - creamy and very flavorful. The service is also friendly and very efficient. Like everyone notes, the restaurant can get quite noisy so it is not the place for a quite, intimate dinner, but otherwise, The Smith is truly the real deal for a great meal in a fun, energetic atmosphere."

  • "Made a 7:30 reservation on a Wednesday night, got there early sat at the bar for an hour and had some great cocktails! It's a great space with an awesome ambiance. The mac and cheese appetizer is an unbeatable serving of comfort! I followed up by another pasta dish (which I soon regretted, strictly on my fullness level). Mac and cheese was heavy, I suggest a lighter entree if you're getting that but if you're not getting an appetizer I suggest the tagliatelle which was a black spaghetti with shrimp, scallions, and a crumbled garlic bread- DELICIOUS! ****Overall a great environment with good food and great drinks!"

It was incredible - we dined on fabulous Eggs Benedict, French Toast, INCREDIBLE bacon and coffees (we got the chair-lifts), brussels sprouts - the whole thing was so delicious. The service was phenomenal even though it was super busy, and everyone was so nice. And can I just say how glad I was that I made a reservation the day before? The place was slammed - clearly I'm not the first person to realize what an awesome place The Smith is. HIGHLY RECOMMEND and make sure to make a reservation!"

Although it was VERY loud (making normal conversation difficult), the food was very good and it had a vibe that the young people in our group liked. We were able to make reservations a day or so earlier, which are absolutely necessary for a group, or don't want to experience long wait times. We'd go there again."

  • "Due to my friends being unable to nail down their plans, I had to change our reservations multiple times. I know how disruptive that can be, but the hosts that I spoke to on the phone were never testy about it. Coral was especially gracious when I called the day of our reservation to make a change. Even though I KNOW making a day-of change to a Saturday brunch reservation is obnoxious, you'd never tell from how kind she was on the phone. "

  • "The combinations within each entree were fun and delicious. It was a cross between feeling at home, but with a special flare for foodies! I was hesitatn to order the 15 hour slwo cooked pork servied on MOnday nights due to it pairing. But went for it and loved it. Visit NYC often and this time was for five days. Ate at The Smith the first night and kept wanting to go back but felt guilty not trying other restuarants. Finally said screw it and went back on last night in NYC and ate the penne with slow roasted pork sauce and Omg!"

  • "Food was great and generous portions. We were a table of 5 squeezed into a table for 4, that was the only downside of our experience. There was another customer at the table next to us,who was very loud and intoxicated. Management came right over and asked the party to leave so other patrons would not be disturbed. I was impressed with that as this patron's behavior would have for sure ruined our celebration!"

  • "The Smith is one of my favorite brunch spots. And seems to be everyone else's too because it's always so busy. I'm a huge fan of brunch, and more specifically of eggs benedict, so I decided to try the potato waffle benedict and it's honestly one of the best things I've ever eaten. Everything on the menu looks/sounds great, and there are way more options here than on your average brunch menu. Looking forward to going back again very soon. "

  • "I've been here many times and I have loved everything I've eaten. I also like that all the brunch options come with a free drink (mimosa, bloody, etc.). It is always really busy, so I would make sure to make reservations especially for groups. Standouts food options: Apps - fried green beans, donut holes Entrees - biscuits and gravy w/ poached eggs, steak and eggs, ricotta pancakes. There's also a photo booth downstairs. One weird thing is that they don't let you change how the eggs are cooked, you can only have the eggs cooked how it is listed on the menu. "
