Food was good, not great. My appetizer, jonnie cakes with salmon, crema fraiche and caviar was very good, amusingly small. My wife had a mushroom ravioli. Tasty, but tough and barely warm. My scallops were slightly over cooked, sauce interesting. My wife's bass was pefectlly cooked en croute, but the sauce was overpowering, more suitable for a piece of beef. Table service was very good, but the restaurant seemed crowded with waiters and bus boys. Service for other tables seemed to happen right on top of us. Basically, way overpriced for the quality of the experience.

The Skybar level exceeded our expectations from the moment we arrived. I made a special seating request at the time of booking and the staff acknowledged that request upon arrival. They did everything to make our evening perfect. The food was wonderful. The view spectacular! Thanks to all who provided an over the top experience!

Great atmosphere and terrific view. Slightly let down by the service. I was delivered the wrong food, our ice bucket was used for the next table and the waiter kept leaning over without excusing himself. There was too much food and far too many sauces that took away the enjoyment of the main ingredient mine being lobster another being steak. Maybe we went on a bad day as this restaurant has been highly recommended to us.

We found the professional staff and food presentations equally as good as our first visit 8 years ago. If you are seated toward the water, be prepared to be squished as the tables are extremely close to each other. Every time the server tried to squeeze by, he hit the back of our chairs and there was no room to move. Although noted for the wine choices, the pinot noir we chose was unavailable. Other than that, it was a fine dining experience.

The waiter had a strong accent. He seemed a bit rude when my husband did not want water. The room was beautifully decorated. Very romantic. The food was a bit pricy but worth it.

Our fine dining experience in the Porch Dining Room was awesome. The menu and wine selections were great, the service was outstanding, and the ambiance was perfect. We highly recommend this restaurant, especially for a special occasion. You will not be disappointed.

We were stuck in traffic and called and let them know. They were happy to accommodate us when we arrived 1 hour after our original reservation time. Food was great. A bit noisy. I would recommend and return.

This is our third dinner at this restaurant, and always on the top floor ( the most formal). Small bar on this floor, with a great bartender (Rick). A true Newport scene, with many locals. They will not hold a table, and if you want a cocktail before dinner, you best show up early. Food is good, but seems to have slipped a bit since last year. Both of us felt that it had been better in the past. Service is fine, but there seems to be some language issues. When a waiter was asked how large was the lobster that was shelled in one of the entree's he proceeded to make a circle with his hands. When I asked about the twin lobster entree, all he could tell me was that it was more.

Due to my wifes sensativty/ and health issues they could not accomadte or change the menu offerings for us. We had to go elsewhere. THEY did recommend 2 places and we found the Parirot Restaraunat to be FABULOUS. I am sure the majority of people would have liked Clarkes who have no health / allergry issues................

My husband and I were vacationing in Newport and had dinner at the Skybar. The food was outstanding and the décor was very pretty. The only negative was the waitstaff was very stuffy compared to other upscale restaurants we frequent.

We dined at the Skybar on our recent visit to Newport with our teenage children (we lived in Newport years ago). It was easily the best dining experience we have had in a long time. First, the ambience was fresh yet sophisticated. Our server was charming and attentive, and made excellent recommendations regarding dishes and wines. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully plated, and desserts (especially the snowball in hell) were to die for. Loved it. Would recommended this restaurant and return again and again.

This was our second visit and just as special as the first. In the summer, you might try for a later time slot if you want to sit by the edge for the best view. Gets pretty hot as the sun is setting. The staff here is wonderful and food is excellent. We laughed at the nearby cheers as the US soccer team was playing. We enjoy our annual visit very much. Very pleasant, very enjoyable.. don't miss the Snowball in Hell dessert!

Lovely dinner overlooking the harbor. Service was impeccable. Our waiter was polite and helpful with the menu offering high-touch service when needed and allowing us our privacy the rest of the time. Some had noted the atmosphere was uptight and a bit elitist. While we were eyed up and down by the maître d upon our arrival, I think that is just the establishment's attempt to fill the restaurant with an appropriate crowd and keep out the cargo shorts and flip flops...something they're absolutely allowed to do. If you pass muster you'll be seated quickly and treated exquisitely. My suggestion is you should dress as if you're going to a private club - collared shirts and sport coats for men and dresses for ladies.

We're fond of the Clarke Cooke House, especially the Skybar/Porch, and returned for an anniversary dinner. The setting is lovely, overlooking the harbor, and even on a rainy evening was romantic. We started with champagne and fresh oysters-scrumptious. Our fish entrees were fresh, artfully presented and delicious. The service was attentive and friendly. My only complaint is the service was a bit too bustling and obtrusive, even for neighboring tables. I don't know if it's because the tables are too close or too many service people are involved in serving and clearing , but it was always an event when something nearby needed attention. I prefer service less intrusive, especially when for surrounding diners. Still, a lovely evening.
