They can change the room temp by raising or closing the firehouse doors. The whisky list (served by the glass in generous portions) is extensive and varied. All Western Hemisphere, though so no Scotch or Irish. The tequila list is also quite long. Food is country western style with a twist. The Chicken and Waffles are a specialty of the house. The person in our group who tried them described them as very good. All the dishes were cooked with a little something to "kick it up a notch". No 3 alarm stuff, but definitely spicy. We found it interesting that we were not asked about dessert. Not a big issue here. Our table was ready on time, and despite the crowd our server did not rush us.
The food was "very good" as the OpenTable rating says, but the added draw here is that it's fun. When is started to rain we were quickly moved into an open area. I was quite impressed since we had a large group.
Loved the Okra --would highly recommend this. The brisket was good as well! Woudl defintely return. However, since it was Oaks Night, we weren't sure if our table would be ready at the time that we had reserved it. As it turned out, our table was ready for us when we arrived. The server immediately took our drink orders. The service and food did not disappoint. The one criticism that we had was the limited "Derby" menu and the inflated prices. One of our out of town guests had looked up the menu online to get an idea of what was offered. When he was given the "Derby" menu, he noticed how limited it was, and how the prices had been increased from the online menu.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA GemA great little restaurant with really good food, great atmosphere and professional friendly waitstaff. However, on this visit came early for dinner and the house background music was so loud it made mormal conversation hard. Our server was absolutely a gem and took excellent care. I only wish I could remember her name, to directly compliment her. There was a young man who was working as a busser, who I couldn't help but nitice how active and attentive he was to his duties. This is to commend the restaurant leadership on having a great team. Did I mention that the food is excellent? Fried oysters are succulent, best ribs I have eaten ever, great salads, delicious sides. Highly recommended. Everything was incredible - from hand-mixed cocktails and deep fried appetizers at the bar, and from a completely unique dinner to the most incredible banana pudding for dessert! The server and bartender both had a great knowledge of bourbon, and the restaurant had an extensive variety to choose from. Everyone in my party ordered a different entree, and each person was blown away with their choice - everything was delicious! I was told by a friend that I had to save room for banana pudding, and thank goodness I did. Sorry Mom, this was the best banana pudding I've ever had!
