A word from The Shrimp Box
In 1940 Franklin E. Barmore Sr. purchased the land where the current Shrimp Box now sits to become a commercial fishing dock. The Barmore Family consisting of Frank Sr., Edith, and Frank Jr., ran the dock and the adjoining retail fish market, selling and transporting fish along the Atlantic Coast.

In 1953, with Frank Jr. and Mom Barmore (now a widow) decided to open a small take-out seafood stand to keep her occupied. After several years, the stand was so successful it moved to the retail fish store (the current lobby and part of the kitchen) and expanded it's seating to 36 from the four original counter stools.

Frank Barmore died in 1982, leaving the restaurant to his wife and daughters.
In the end of the 1999 season, the Shrimp Box ownership was transferred to Nick Gyftakis and George Pappas. Nick and George have been in business together since the 1970's. With their combined restaurant history, your dining experience is sure to be memorable.

We should have had a clue when we walked in and realized the place had only a few occupied loud tables. The veggie purée soup was gritty and the waitress hadn't a clue what it was. The halibut had a 1/4 inch coating of garlic paste (what lemon? White wine sauce?) that was hard to get down considering how over cooked the fish was. Had to search for fleck of pink to find the lobster in the Mac n cheese. Overall, I'm not going back and truly regret I ever suggested trying it.

The food was delicious but I was wondering why a seafood restaurant would have imitation crab meat at the salad bar. This seemed a little weird to me. I'm not suggesting they put real crabmeat in its place, but it's kind of laughable that a nice seafood restaurant offers fake crabmeat at its salad bar. Other than that, my food was delicious! 4 of us had 4 different apps & entrees and we were all pleased with our meals! We will be back!

The Shrimp Box has been redone since Sandy, but still retains the nautical feel to it (only better). We went for Jersey Shore Restaurant Week and their were many choices. The food was good, portions quite adequate, and service was good. The appetizers were the best. Nice filet mignon skewers, seared Ahi tuna, Rock Shrimp. All appetizers were very good. The encrusted halibut was a little dry with the "encrusted" actually only having the stuff piled on top. Everything else was good.

Have dined there on several occasions when visiting Point Pleasant and the food is just okay. However, mgiven the quality of e food the prices are fairly high. Also, the noise level was really over the top and caused one in my party to develop a headache

What can I say.... Great view of the harbor! Although it was a stormy night, we were warmly taken care of inside. We were seated along one of the many tables facing the water. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals, mine was a special, Salmon with caper sauce on a bed of spinach. Very tasty featuring a huge piece of salmon. When dessert time came around, Robin requested a cupcake. I asked our waitress if she would add a candle, when dessert arrived, Robin was serranated by all the patrons and staff. It was a very enjoyable evening....

A friend of mine suggested The Shrimp Box some time ago, however she advised we go off season due to the location. I see why the parking was sparse. BUT that was the only drawback. the food was excellent as was the service. View was spectacular and the prices were excellent. We were all very, very pleased. We will definitely go there again and recommend it ( we already have).

We had reservations for a Sunday at 5:00 and were seated right on time. The broiled combo and stuffed flounder were delicious. We got a table near a window which overlooks the inlet. Not a lot of boats coming and going after Labor Day, but still a nice view. Our waitress was very attentive without making us feel rushed. We will definitely go back!

When the salad bar features iceberg lettuce and fake crab, you know what to expect from the rest of the meal. Our expectations were confirmed. While the seafood was pretty good - fresh scallops, lobster, and shrimp - the vegetables were cafeteria style: limp and overcooked. The service was good, ambiance not good. Had a reservation, yet still had to put our names on the waitlist. Basically, an upscale cafeteria dining experience.

We had a great Caesar salad with calamari-they put on so many calamari we almost had no room for dinner. But we suffered and gave in to the most delicious cioppino with lots of seafood over linguine. Top all this off with 2 perfectly made margueritas and you have a great feast!! Can't wait to return.

We made a reservation , for Shrimp Box , on OpenTable but we're told we didn't need it to sit on their outside patio. We were glad that we did since there was a wet sour smell in the restaurant. Waited for service that was efficient. Lunch menu was not creative, average fair. I had the shrimp wrap & french fries with a small cup of cole slaw, which was good but not outstanding. My friend had the crab cake sandwich which was good, little bread filler but was very small patty.

First, traffic coming into Pt. Pleasant was horrible, then parking at The Shrimp Box was even worse -- we were nearly 45 minutes late for our reservations. Food was good but nothing spectacular. Scallops were good but the shrimp was over-cooked and chewy. Noise level was uncomfortable, hard to talk to each other. Service was good, waitress very friendly and responsive, but she forgot our 2 soup orders so we were a little disappointed.

The Shrimp Box is famous, as just the entry lines will attest. Make sure you have a reservation, even on a night you think might be less busy. I reserved a window table and GOT a window table, prompt to my reservation time. A+. Sizable portions; brought home leftovers. Friendly, but extremely hurried/hectic, staff. "Energetic" noise level noted above, but never felt rushed at the table.
