Our Midtown Manhattan restaurant's dinner menu proudly features items from out of the city farms and purveyors of New York State for field greens, wild arugula, heirloom tomatoes, chicken and pork that go into homey plates like Chicken Schnitzel and Greek Salad.

  • "Its hard to find a quiet dining experience in midtown around the Grand Central area - the Shop is the exception. Its elegant enough to have a business lunch and a roamantic dinner and laid back enough to have a glass or two of wine and apps with friends after work. you can have a conversation without having to shout over 50 people and should you need to have some more cocktails after dinner you can hop a couple of floors down at the Andaz hotel to The Bar Downstairs."

  • "I waited for 20 mins for water and a menu. The service was abysmal. The menu was limited. The carafe of wine was barely drinkable. The worst thing was the service and management; after ordering a $40 carafe of terrible wine, the maître d had the nerve to tell us that we did not order enough and did not spend enough money and asked us to leave our table. With a full carafe of wine infront of us, he told us we had to move to a communal table because he had a party that needed to be sat, despite the fact that we had reservations. He became rude and aggressive towards us, laughing, and calling us names. There are so many wonderful places in NYC- do not go here!!! I have never had such a bad dining experience in 15 years of dining in NYC. "

  • "Appetizers and main dishes continue to be high quality, well-seasoned, and unexpectedly generous portions. Most patrons are not noisy, so a pleasant place for dinner if the bar crowd is not acting up. Cod over sweet potato mash highly recommended. Apple tart is a tasty finish if you have room for dessert."

  • "All the best for early evening dining--great dishes, attentive service and quiet enough for normal conversation. The farmer's salad was delightful and the cod with sweet potato was cooked just right.. Dining partner's every dish was served inside a hot skillet, not sure that the blowtorch applied to the cinnamon pieces beneath the soup added any drama or taste experience to the otherwise good old soup. Apple pastry dessert was worth the calories, the creme brulee was not. Next time, the burger--looked very tempting on the neighboring diner's plate."

  • "It was perfect for our business dinner; not too crowded and the tables had enough space in between, so it was possible to have a conversation. But because the temperature in the restaurant was on the chilly side, I had to keep my winter coat on. The bathrooms on the second floor were even colder."

  • "I had a party of 7 people and they were able to accommodate us with less than 36 hours notice (I should note that our reservation was for 5:15pm though, so on the very early side). But the benefit of that was we sat in the back of the restaurant and no one else was seated near us, so it felt like we had our own private dining room. The food was excellent, they have a good selection of wine. I wish it were less expensive but if you're looking for a good place near Grand Central, the prices are on par and it's a little better than other places. Our only complaint was that although they let you order cocktails from the Bar Downstairs, it takes 30 minutes to get it so keep that in mind."

  • "This restaurant had good food, nice decor and a great wine list. The bread they served us ahead of time was delicious, and both the apps and entrees were good (not amazing, but certainly not bad). Their beer menu is not so great, but our waitress accidentally opened the wrong beer and then gave it to us for free, as well as the correct beer. We also had an issue with the desert; the restaurant was preparing to close and we ordered the apple pie but their ovens were off, so they gave us another desert for free. I would not go out of my way to go here, but our hotel was near by and it was not bad at all. They also have what looks to be a very cute little cafe stop in the entrance."

The food was up to its usual high standard, with a generous serving of Farmer's salad that had multiple tasty ingredients. The Cod with sweet potato and capers was an interesting blend that actually enhanced the flavor of the fish."

The menu is on the small side but diverse enough to satisfy any craving. The service was attentive, professional and friendly.   • "We were recently at the Andaz Napa and had high hopes about this location. Our dinner reservations were for 8:30 on a Saturday night and the restaurant was completely empty. Having said that, our service was surprisingly terrible. Our soup and entrees sat on the service table for several minutes and the chef banging a few pans and loudly, but discreetly, asking for service. We were never asked if we wanted cocktails or anything in addition to our water. We were not greeted upon entry and then told to seat ourselves. Unacceptable for a restaurant of this 'caliber'. The food was quite good. I had the porkchop which was exquisite."

We hadn't seen each other in quite a while and we were able to hold a conversation as it wasn't too loud on a Monday night.   • "I was the resturant twice in one week. The food was very good both nights but the service very inconsistent. Monday the server was incredibly friendly and attentive. She was terrific. Thursday the server could hardly have been bothered to serve us. He served warm tap water with no ice. Had to ask for ice multiple times. He was no less than being classified as rude."

The shrimp appetizer was a bit difficult to handle--like mini-lobster tails in the shell--but the farro was excellent. Excellent main dishes came with interesting vegetables and grains. Short but very good wine list, fortunately not just local selections; liked the idea of carafes which give better choices for those at the table."

  • "From first bite to last, this was a special treat. The potato bread, apparently from Amy's, was some of the best bread I've ever tasted. The scallops entree, with kale and butternut squash, was exquisitely prepared, and I savored every bite. The dessert, a fruit cobbler with ice cream, was divine, and big enough to share. The service was attentive, but not overly so, allowing us to talk at leisure and enjoy the elegant, yet informal atmosphere. This was my first time eating at The Shop, and it has instantly become one of my favorite restaurants in New York."

  • "Quality of ingredients and preparation from the kitchen is truly excellent. However, the small/large plate menu selection itself was somewhat limited, so we almost left until we heard the evening's specials. Simple but good wine list offers some nice carafe options. The dining room is not very comfortable, thought, with heavy (hotel-style) over-sized tables that make dinner for 2 less than intimate. Configuration makes for few "good" tables. Service got off to a confused start, but improved over the course of the evening with the courtesy of our server."

  • "Was meeting friends from out of town for a reunion dinner. Our reservation was for 7:15 and we were 15 min. early. As there is no real bar to wait at, we asked if we could sit at our table. We were told that we would be "sat at 7:15". (There were many tables available - including the one we were ultimately placed at.) No worries . . . we enjoyed a nice bottle of Champagne while we waited, served by a very pleasant waiter. At 7:13 we returned to the hostess, who once again told us that we "will be sat at 7:15". Since my friend's watch read 7:15, the hostess relinquished and brought us to our table . . . which had been sitting empty since we had arrived. Don't know what that was all about. Otherwise, everything was great and I will return."

  • "I would not recommend this place to anyone! While the omlette I had was actually good (it was fluffy and came in a skillet) it cost $19. YES!! $19!!! And get this - it came with nothing. Literally, NOTHING. Not a bread, not potatoes, no hash, NOTHING. $19 for two eggs! That is absolutely unacceptable. And that's all I have to say to that."

  • "The dishes are small, totally suitable for one person -- not meant for sharing. I was surprised by the fruit & cheese platter, because we ordered it to share amongst 3 people as an appetizer while we drank our first round of wine, but the platter was quite small. There weren't enough nuts to accompany the cheeses and the honeycomb was cumbersome to take off the sheet that was covering the cheeseboard. That sheet was annoying because it kept sliding each time our butter knife would touch it. The baguette that accompanied the cheese platter should have been sliced to prevent the entire thing from falling off each time someone tried to get something off the plate. Overall an A-minus."
