The Setai is one of the highest-end hotels on South Beach and oozes style, which is why we were a tad disappointed in the tomb-like quality of The Grill. The room is a mostly windowless box with a limited view from one end of the courtyard in the middle of the building. The service is swift, attentive, and competent; the food is lackluster: high-quality ingredients assembled properly but without imagination or verve. Nothing we ate made us say "wow, that's great." The prices are, as one would expect from this type of establishment, extortionary, but would be worth paying if the food were better or the view more beautiful. Verdict: skip this place.

Small protions but excellent food. It is a little pricey but we need to enjoy life once in a while. I wish wine list could be longer with more bottles available that would not break the budget. Went on 1/29 for dinner. Place was not full but with the right amount of business. If you are in Miami check it out!

My husband and I went to The Satei for cocktails on in February. When we returned to Miami in April, we knew we wanted to go for dinner. We could not have been more disappointed. We opted for The Grill at The Setai because the menu online looked great. The food & preparation were terrible. The best was the ham from the charcuterie(they just had to cut it, not cook it). Then we had the oyster beignettes w/cauliflower cream. It was greasy & the flavors did not go together. We had seared tuna, but it was not good tuna. And we had the pumpkin agnolotti-it was under done. We eat out at fine restaurants often-this is not one them. There are better restaurants in the area. Plus, we had to ask for our check three times. Just not a good experience.

My husband questioned the menu when looking online but our dinner was fabulous! We ordered a beef appetizer, pumpkin soup, lobster dumplings (I thought they were bland but my husband loved them), and a hazlenut desert that was divine.

  • Our meal at the Setai's Grill

Our meal at the Setai's Grill was a real treat. We loved the small- and medium- plate format; we ordered lots and shared, so we got to try many of the menu items. Highlights included a gorgeous array of beets prepared six or seven different ways, oxtail and foie gras croquettes (seriously!), veal cheeks, short ribs w/ bone marrow we could scoop right out of the bone, and a cold fish dish. The dishes had some wonderful touches, such as savory sorbets. It was all beautifully presented. The food was decadent but the setting was comfortable, with thick comfy pillows on the back of each chair. Oh, and there was a fantastic dessert, a chocolate praline napoleon. Tried to just take a few bites but kept taking a few more.

Reading about the Grill made my mouth water and I was very excited about the experience. The quality of the food just did not live up to the descriptions. Go to the Restaurant at the Setai instead which was exceptional and lived up to its advertising. If you're a gourmand/gourmet, don't waste your life for one second at the Grill. With one notable exception - the complementary cheese puff balls were to die for.

We had dinner several times before at The Grill at The Setai, but the dishes never stop to pleasantly surprise us. New dishes were recently added to the already extensive menu, and they were as innovative and superb as the already existing ones. The service was excellent, and our waiters paid attention to every detail, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. It was once again a memorable experience, and we will definitely be back soon.

After going to the opening of the envelope at the W Hotel for Saveur Magazine, we staggered out into the SoBeW&FF opening evening with no reservations or places to eat! Reminder popped into my head about a special winter menu at The Grill. 4 for $40, that included 1 small, 1 medium, and 1 large plate and 1 dessert per person. It is served tapas style for sharing and even the small plate was huge! Service is a class act at The Grill and is in no way a stepsister to The Restaurant.

I have been to The Grill at the Setai several times over the past months, and this restaurant is definitely the BEST in Miami. Both the quality of the food and the service have been consistently excellent, which is very rare to find in South Beach. The food is delicious, and prepared with great attention for detail. Loved everything, but particular favourites are the Serrano Ham Consommé Tagliatelle and the Scrambled Eggs with Sea Urchin. And don't forget to have one of these amazing cocktails in the courtyard before or after dinner. I promise you will not regret it!

    OpenTable Diner Since 2006
    Dined on 2/18/2010
I have dined at the Grill at the Setai several times and rate it with the best restaurants in any cosmopolitan city. The menu is innovative & changes every few weeks, although there are high quality charcuterie, steak, and duck fat fries all the time. The dishes have depth & dimension - red wine braised onions, bone marrow and porcini custard (with smoked bacon); ravioli filled with poached egg and truffle, and the serrano ham tagliatelle is mind bendingly tasty as it is interesting. There is something for every taste (and for vegetarians). The pastry chef's creations are not to be missed - a tasting of citrus emphasizes the best flavors of Florida's signature fruit. Dine at the bar to fully enjoy the buzz coming from the kitchen.

We went for Valentine's dinner, which was planned a month in advance, so expectations were high! Sat in the patio waiting for bar service and NOTHING.... I had to go inside and order drinks at the bar and take drinks, peanuts and olives outside. For $50 for 2 drinks, I would have expected more. Dinner was great, but ran out of water, bread and worst wine several times. Finally finished dinner, plate sat at the table for a while, ordered dessert and waited about 15 minutes to pay bill... later the server told me the system was down, but I wisehed she would have let us know, so we could have had coffee... dinner was very pricy! I could have tolorated ok food for the price, but the service was terrible and we will not return.

The food at The Grill is cleverly prepared and presented. Each dish surprised and delighted. Try the ravioli and be sure to save room for desert. The sommelier knew exactly what wine to serve, even though we had differing tastes at the table. Reserve a table outdoors and enjoy the courtyard. The service was knowledgeable and attentive.

None of the food ordered was particularly tasty or well-seasoned. The service was at best fair. 20 minutes after our order was taken the server came to the table to tell us that one of our main dishes was no longer available. No substitute was suggested, no real apology made. It felt anonymous, like no one was running the show. Big disappointment. Spent 9 days in South Beach, this was the worst mealwe had
