A New Setai Grill Menu: East Meets West

Starting Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at The Setai Grill, our team of international culinarians, led by Executive Chef Mathias Gervais, brings an “East meets West” interpretation of a modern Asian-inspired prime steakhouse.

The Setai Grill’s bites, small plates and entrees are inspired by the robust Asia-Pacific flavors, along with our own vibrant surroundings of Latin and South America, while using only the freshest and finest seasonal ingredients. The Setai Grill’s signature premium meats, sourced from the finest meat purveyor in the country: Pat LaFrieda & Son, will also tantalize guests’ taste buds.

Diner Reviews
  • "I had picked the Setai Grill before coming to Miami for a special event. They a special six course Tasting Menu listed online but when we arrived the Menu seemed to have been replaced for a three course summer special. To meet our disappointment, they managed to pull a special menu together with all different courses that we had set our tastebuds and accompanied it with wine-pairing. It was all excellent, the service, the food, the ambiance and we were very happy. The check in the end blew us away but it was worth every penny."

  • "Probably the best dinner I've ever had. The service, food, drinks, and ambiance were absolutely amazing. Can't wait to go back!!"

  • "The meal was terrific. If you want to mix it up in South Beach and have a steak, this is a great spot. Better than BLT steak. I would add that the service was perfect. Couldn't have been more spot on."

  • "Great food and service! I was there on my honeymoon and the staff treated us very well and gave us a free desert. One of the best steaks I have ever had."

  • "The Place is very Chic also service is tailored to please the guest. The Food is so fresh it gets sold-out that same day. I really enjoyed the experience."

  • "We were blown away by outdoor courtyard, menu selection, and culinary experience. Our expectations for this "grill" we're far exceeded! Show up hungry, small plates and apps should not be skipped over although entrees were the stars! We had black cod (mouthwatering) and skirt steak (the smell alone was delicious) and ate every bite! The staff was very attentive though not overbearing, and left us feeling well taken care of. The drink menu was superb, very creative and eclectic options that we thoroughly enjoyed!! Fantastic meal, we strongly encourage you to try it!"

  • "The Setai Grill has one of the most fantastic outdoor dining areas I've seen in South Beach. Lights are low in the evening ; huge beautiful dark water feature surrounded by By beautiful tall palm trees and the table nicely spaced . DJ's music Playing in the background very hip. Each course we enjoyed was delicious ,however very very tiny. This does not come as a surprise however because our waitstaff was clear on what to expect. There is an Asian reference to everything and it all made for a beautiful special evening out."

  • "While the reviews prior to making our reservation seemed positive, we were highly disappointed with our experience. The appetizers were mediocre - overcooked and overpriced, for entrees 3 steaks were not cooked as ordered - we sent 1 back and our 2 guests flipflopped their orders; scallops, priced at $29 was a mere 2 scallops!! Dessert portions were too small for sharing, the Irish coffee was incorrectly prepared and cold-even the waited should have realized this and not served it! We had pre-dinner drinks at the bar, advised the bar we were taking our table and returning to pay, while seated, they chased me down to pay the bill! This was an awful experience from start to finish, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to my dog!!!"

  • "We were disappointed because we were the only ones in the restaurant and the garden i had heard about was closed. Order TAP water because they charged us $10 for a bottle of water. Tap water wasn't even an option (would you like sparkling or still water? ) i hate when they do that! Food was good. We asked where the chef got his reblouchon cheese to male the tartiflette and he said he used robiolo cheese instead! Don't say that its a tartiflette de reblouchon then!!"

  • "We had the Miami Spice selection on Sunday night, my wife got the catch of the day which was salmon, and thought it was very good. I got the steak with argula and the taste was fantastic, but the downside was that the steak was so thin that it was not filling enough. Service was nice, staff was nice and the scene is and staff are very laid back."

  • "Very good meals. Had wine pairing for $29 extra. Excellent food. Pasta was a little skimpy in size. Chocolate mousse also small for dessert. The meat was delicious. Did not try catch of the day. Bread, individually baked in pan, like corn bread. delicious!!! Very attentive service and Maitre D' very helpful with wine pairing."

  • "Had a fabulous meal here during my last trip to Miami. The meal started with bread still fresh from the oven that was flaky and wonderful. The Betteraves salad was delectable and had some of the best goat cheese that I've ever eaten. The smoked eggplant cavier was also to die for. So smooth and cooked perfectly. The smoked salmon was delicious. We also got the Dover Sole. I had never had sole before, and I absolutely loved it. It was very fresh and perfectly prepared and flavored with parsley, lemon juice, and brown butter. Service all evening exceeded my expectations. The staff was so amazing and attentive. I would definitely dine here again if I return to Miami!"

  • "We both had bone-in 18 oz. NY strip steaks and they were amazing - flavorful, cooked to the right temperature and juicy. The service was impeccable. We dined on a quiet Sunday evening and staff outnumbered customers. You only had to make eye contact with one of them and they were at your table asking what they could bring you. The wine list is extensive. One pleasant surprise is that they sell some rather fine wines by the glass, unlike many places. They were pouring a very fine Bourdeaux for me - something I wouldn't have expected to get by the glass at most restaurants."

  • "Our dining experience at The Setai Grill was divine in every way. Our every need was anticipated and met by the efficient staff. Great wines and the best Scotch was available. The atmosphere is clubby quiet but energized by locals. The young chefs were cheerful and answered questions about our selections. The rib eye we shared was cooked to perfection with a fantastic potatoea au gratin. The homemade roquefort was divine. The manager, Mr. Hakan Balkuvvar was polished. knowledgeable and his service was reminiscent of an earlier time. This is an excellent steak house and we had a truly memorable experience."

  • "The food was amazing, however beware of the padding of the bill by the waitress. She offered us a glass of champagne, which turned out costing $40 a glass!!! I found that extremely offensive!! The bottle of wine the Sommelier suggested was delicious and only $20 more than my glass of champagne! The waitress didn't have a clue & service was extremely slow, even though they weren't that busy. If you have a lot of money or it's a special occasion, I recommend this place. Just beware of the offer of champagne!"

  • "Wonderful steakhouse for quiet dining. Other steakhouses in South Beach are very noisy and over crowded with tables and people. Very attentive assistance from the grill manager, Hakan Balkuvvar, enhanced our dining experience. The attention to the small details was outstanding. We were suggested a terrific wine, exceptional jamon Iberico, a delicious amuse-bouche, soft and warm brioche in a tureen--all outstanding touches. Although the restaurant touts its steaks from a leading New York butcher, there could be better found in the butcher shops of Chicago or Kansas City. Still the meal and all the staff's service were terrific!"

  • "The Setai Grill is a beautiful space within the Setai Hotel in Miami Beach. The restaurant is technically a “steakhouse” but don’t let that fool you. It really is a romantic little place, with outstanding service and an outstanding wine list that happens to serve great steak and really great seafood. I highly recommend for a couples night out and it is perfectly suited for a business dinner as well. The wine list and service goes far beyond expectations with great Burgundy selections (both red and white). This is an expensive night out but well worth it."

  • "Sorry to say that although open table rated seitai five star we did not have a great experience. Our tomato salad appetizer was delivered and shared and it was not until this shared appetizer was done that our waiter came to apologize for us only receiving one of two ordered. My steak and fries were brought to the table and the steak was cooked to rare and had been ordered medium well. The steak was returned to the kitchen with the excuse that the rare steak had been ordered by another table and brought to our by mistake. Meanwhile when the steak was re delivered the fries were cold. No attempt to make this experience better was made by the seemingly hovering staff. If this is Miami s number one I am glad I live in NYC."

  • "I think they are still working out opening kinks. Service alternated between fantastic and "where did everyone go?" First courses were great, and then it was almost like we were forgotten for a course (a long pause between minor courses). We would have ordered another round of drinks had anyone either asked or been around to take the order."

  • "The Service was prompt in the beginning however it did lack a bit towards the end as it got busy in the restuarant. I was impressed but not blown away. I didn't quite like the "pig" hanging in the back where the prepping was being done."

  • "We sat at the chef's counter, and were treated like treasured guests. Chef came out to speak to us a couple of times, and even gave us a sliver of sample of two types of fresh truffles they had in stock. The food was excellent. The suckling pig was a tiny bit dry but still delicious, and the braised veal was the most tender I've ever had. Definitely a place for people who are looking for fine dining."

  • "The Setai is one of the highest-end hotels on South Beach and oozes style, which is why we were a tad disappointed in the tomb-like quality of The Grill. The room is a mostly windowless box with a limited view from one end of the courtyard in the middle of the building. The service is swift, attentive, and competent; the food is lackluster: high-quality ingredients assembled properly but without imagination or verve. Nothing we ate made us say "wow, that's great." The prices are, as one would expect from this type of establishment, extortionary, but would be worth paying if the food were better or the view more beautiful. Verdict: skip this place."
