Diner Reviews
  • "Easter at the Sea Grill is a lot of fun. The Easter Bunny came in to visit and hand out chocolate eggs. You can see the ice skaters moving on the ice too. The food is wonderful! The prix-fixe had so many good things to eat I couldn’t decide."

  • "I have been to Rockefeller Center many times, on business as well as for leisure and vacation. Always enjoyed the skating but incorrectly assumed that any restaurant on the lower level facing the ice rink would be outrageously expensive with poor food and service. Boy was I wrong. My companion and I had a wonderful dinner with great service. The prices were moderate for NY City and the view of the skaters was a nice touch during dinner. The restaurant decor is understated elegance and the service was attentive without being intrusive. All in all it was a most pleasurable experience before a Broadway show in NY and something I will definitely do again."

  • "One of the 3 best seafood kitchens in NYC with Le Bernardin and Aquagrill. But the others don't have the rink.... Seriously flawless food and service."

  • "My sisters and I go here every three months as a catch up. They always give us a lovely table overlooking the rink. Service is great.. Love the sushi!"

  • "The Sea Grill now filled to capacity deserves the crowds for excellent service, a great view and the broadest variety of fish choices from sushi through the freshest of simply grilled fish. The food is matched with an excellent and broad wine list to match including many excellent by the glass choices."

  • "I very much enjoyed my lunch at the Sea Grill. We had a lovely view of the skating rink. Their seafood chowder and lobster mac n cheese are absolutely divine. Our server was knowledgeable and gave the perfect amount of attentiveness, enough for us to feel welcomed and important but not interrupted. The salmon and cod were very tasty. The portion sizes seemed just right as we left feeling full but not overly stuffed. The Sea Grill is also a great option for those on a low salt diet as their premium salt options on the table can be added to any plate."

  • "This restaurant has been consistently good over the years. The food is fresh and the portions are perfect. There is quite a selection on this menu and the wine list is comprehensive and priced moderately. It even offers half bottles which one does not find very often. Service is excellent. Beautiful decor."

  • "Even for the most jaded new yorker, Rockefeller center and the ice rink are magical settings for dinner. Add delicious food, great service and wonderful ambiance and you have a stellar evening for homebodies and tourists alike"

  • "Absolutely fabulous! We had a very pleasant dining experience. We were referred by a colleague while in NY on business, and I would definitely dine here again. Every bite was delicious, and our waiter Nick was possibly one of the best servers ever. He made sure our food was not rushed, and kept close attendance without being overbearing. Thanks for making our evening a lovely memory!"

  • "My son and I were visiting NYC for his Spring Break. We planned to end the week with a fantastic dinner at The Sea Grill. The ambience was outstanding and the view of the skating rink was superb! Unfortunately, It went downhill from there. Our waiter treated us as if we had a contagious disease! He was abrupt and discourteous! I had questions about an entree which went unanswered and the check was literally thrown on the table as he hurried by. I understand that NYC is known for it's lack of kindness, but I expected more from this supposedly noteworthy restaurant! I give it a 1 star for ambience only!"

  • "Food and service were very good. Staff was attentive and always around but not a nuisance. The black cod was delicious. I'd go back."

  • "Saturday evening dinner at The Sea Grill exceeded our expectations in every way. Our request for a table at the window was met so in addition to a fabulous dinner we had a great view of the skaters on the ice at Rockefeller Plaza. Our waiter, serving staff and management were attentive and considerate. This is my second visit to this restaurant this year and I was glad to share it with a new group of friends. Both fish and beef entrees were selected and were cooked perfectly, presented beautifully and enjoyed totally. Wonderful dining experience all round."

  • "This restaurant needs help! There are so many disconnects, it makes for such an odd NYC fine dining experience. The staff has zero energy and warmth, We put that it was our anniversary on our reservation and there was nothing to speak of for it. The food was fair to good. We started with an amouse-bouche of mussles and tomato soup which was really good. The bread was cold and completely stale. the chowder and seafood platter both were excellent. crab cake was pretty good, a little too much breading though. It came with homemade potato chips which were mushy and no flavor. The lobster was great but the spinach was the WORST, the chef can't make sauteed spinach to save his life. never coming back here. so many better options."

  • "We were in New York for 8 days and our dinner at the Sea Grill was a special treat. We would not want to spend that much money daily. We appreciated the availability of good sea food."

  • "Sat right at a window looking out on the skaters. Service was excellent, though that may have something to do with the fact that we were there at 5PM and the restaurant was empty. Appetizers and main courses were very good. Dessert...a small souffle, was not good. The bill was a bit of a shock...about $250 for two people. We had two glasses of wine each, an appetizer each, an entree each, and split the dessert. So you might want to ask for the prices before you order, which I did not. Overall a good place to take somebody who is seeing NYC for the first time which is exactly what I was doing."

  • "I can tell the materiel from the sea is good. But the way they cook it is just so-so. It's a good experience, though."

  • "I couldn't enjoy my dinner there. because the server wanted me to get out too early even thought I didn't finish my dessert. was very uncomfortable vibe. Even I had to check up the time if I stayed too long."

  • "Not only was the food and ambience top level, but, the waiter really cared. Very professional and friendly."

  • "Sea Grill has been around since the 80's. I was reluctant to choose this restaurant because I thought by now it's probably just a tourist trap. I have eaten at this restaurant 3/4 times in the last 2 years during Restaurant Week and was definitely impressed with the quality of food and service. The food was fresh and contemporary and the service was always very professional."

  • "One of the unique parts about our dining experience was getting there when they opened at 5pm and getting a table right next to the window where the ice skating takes place. We had a nice view of the gold statue of Prometheus too. The great service stood out. The portion sizes were not big but this is a quality over quantity type of restaurant so we enjoyed every bite. I recommend the crabcakes or ravioli. Bon appetit. (She said yes later that night!)"

  • "I had dinner with 8 guests on March 1st, 2014- Honestly, as a Michelin Star Restaurant, I would expect much more from The Sea Grill as everybody should be. There are reasons I felt quiet upset with my choice of the restaurant over a dinner with guests: 1. Horrible services and rudeness. The waiters seem very angry and rush throughout the entire course; A waiter dropped food on the table while taking out the place, and he did not pick it up and walk out; 2. Food was the worst I have ever tasted from a Michelin Star restaurant, sushi was like from Wholefood, so they should be downgraded! 3. Slow services & forgot requests. Asked for hot watch twice before we got it. 4. I felt embarrassed as a host for guests and will not recommend this rest!"

  • "Memorable is the word to describe our experience. The restaurant staff and servers were all very professional and accommodating to us and our 2.5 year old son who fell asleep in his stroller. Unlike other restaurants that seat families in the back or by the kitchen, we were seated right next to the window side where we had a beautiful view of the Rockefeller Ice Rink. The view was worth every penny! The food and service was impeccable. The restaurant has a kids menu for families and we ate from the price fixe menu and it was great. We had the lobster for the main course and it was delicious!! I would recommend it to couples, families, anyone celebrated a special occasion and definitely tourists."

  • "I often bring friends to Sea Grill and it has been one of my favorites for many years now. But was disappointed this time. In the spirit of RW, I believe that you should offer 3 entree options that fall under the $38 dinner (and not have only 2 and add a full priced entree as 3rd). I am always happy to add in a signature additional item and wine and coffee."

  • "Always an excellent dining experience. Food here is fresh, well prepared with clean flavours. The fish, needles to say, is always a good choice, but having eaten here half a dozen times at least I can say that it's hard to go wrong. It's also a light-filled space, which can be a nice contrast to the many dark NYC restaurants."

  • "Excellent waiter guided us around Prix Fixe of Restaurant week, was very attentive with water and provided separate checks after only a brief mention at the start. Zamboni and skaters were great entertainment."

  • "A restaurant in that location and with those views has a leg up on others. The Sea Grill serves up a very good menu to complement the amazing view and even the interior ambiance. While certainly a tourist destination it is also a great spot for New Yorkers to enjoy our city. The complimentary starter - mussel in a soup drink was excellent."

  • "The food was absolutely excellent. I have nothing remotely bad to say. The service was great and watching some of the amateur ice skaters fall added humor to the dinner. The service staff Were down to earth and mingled very well with the patrons."

  • "The Sea Grill is always terrific but our most recent meal there, during Restaurant Week 2014, was just sublime. The food couldn't have been more delicious-- the winter salad (roasted baby beets), the crab cake (always a stand-out), the grilled Maine lobster with saffron-shrinp risotto-- we may have to go back and have the exact same menu over again. Soon. And if you have it, be sure to also have the wine pairings, judiciously chosen to add to the pleasure. The service was solicitous and warm; the view of the skaters always entertaining. Bravo!"

  • "If you are willing to create an unforgettable night out dining experience with your significant other, this is the place to go. Decent food with great views, hands down. Just one thing to remind for the perspective foodies, you probably have to save for this event or may end up eating ramen noodles for a month.:)"

  • "I was so fortunate to be with two well-known book authors and sit at a window table next to the Rockefeller Center ice skating rink. It was a great lunch for all of us. It's a must for those visiting NYC or live there."

  • "Restaurant week and a great opportunity for us to return. Everything was wonderful. Had the beet salad, monkfish and panna cota. Probably everything was made more special with the table by the window of the ice rink. One exciting event, a proposal on ice with just the couple and a set of parents on ice. True, magical NYC experience. Highly recommend at any time. PS they know how to make an excellent extra dry vodka martini!"

  • "I would recommend it as a perfect place for a romantic night. The staff is very nice and attends to your need in time. But the food is not that outstanding: The lobster I had is too oily. But the nice location (near Rockefeller) is definitely a bonus."

  • "The food was very good, the skaters fun to watch and our waiter was thoughtful about our timing to make it to an 8PM curtain."
