  • "Was very excited about going here given the reputation of the steak house. unfortunately the food was not worth the price - by any stretch. We had the hamachi shots, raw oysters, seared big eye tuna, and seared mero. Both fish dishes were bland and the sauces were uninspiring. I think with a name like Alexander's they should seriously consider replacing the chef with someone that can live up to their high class name. The layout of the restaurant also seemed inconsistent with such a restaurant. The bathrooms are located at the far side downstairs."

But it is far too expensive for a very good meal - for appetizers in the $20s and entrees in the $40s (and some much higher), the food should be outstanding. For Palo Alto restaurants, Evvia and Tamarine make that jump from very good to outstanding, do it consistently and are less expensive."

  • "Went with only marginally high expectations, given other reviews, but still hopeful, given our experience at Alexander's in Cupertino. Party of 4 -- total cost $600 -- and there was simply nothing special about the evening. Yes, the food was good quality, but it wasn't an experience, which is what i expect for the cost. My order got mixed up with another of my friends -- which is something I expect at a Denny's not at a restaurant of this quality; most detrimental was that they keep interrupting us, not letting us set the pace of the meal . . . essentially, you pay a heck of a lot of money for some decent food -- rating: do not go. not worth it."

Extremely high ceiling, soft white light from high windows and decorations providing a natural, relaxing, and inviting environment that's both warm and cool. Service was excellent.   • "I love Alexander's, so I thought this would be a good experience. It wasn't. At all. I went for Valentines Day. The service was poor (we waited 45 minutes for steaks (which were WAY overdone when they arrived (ordered medium-rare, arrived well-well done (zero color and zero flavor))). We ended up leaving before our dessert even arrived, because we were waiting so long (and we LIKE long/pricey meals). The food was marginal. The fish courses were just small-plate appetizers from the steakhouse, and the steak was HORRIBLE. Worst I've had at a restaurant in years. The ambience isn't great, either. Uncomfortable chairs. Uninspired layout. The walk to the bathroom feels like a walk through a dorm. The whole experience was just disappointing."

  • "I am not much of a seafood kind of guy, but the party I was hosting really wanted to go. I am a huge fan of Alexanders so I figured it would be good.......I was wrong, it was GREAT! I went all in and love everything. The himachi(sp?) shooters were amazing just like Alexanders, and the oysters were great. I had a white fish (starts with an M) that was suggested by the waiter and it was wonderfully flaking and delicious, without any fishy smell at all. We had a great Pinot Noir and finished dinner off with the Banana dessert! Loved every minute of my time there."

  • "We came here for a late dinner the day after Valentine's day and walked in to very unhappy hosts who walked us to the table. While the waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, we were very unsatisfied with the food, and the overall experience was below average. Not sure if it's because we came at 9:30pm, but the food, including the truffle fries, NY steak, and surf and turf were all over-salted and neither of us finished more than half our meal. The only good part about the meal was the croissant bread, which was superb. Overall, we would not return, nor would we recommend this "upscale" restaurant to any of our friends."

And they add 20% gratuity to the bill in the form of a service charge and you get taxed on that! It was a prefixe menu which is a bummer. We got 1 Kumamoto oyster (couldn't taste w all the sauce), hamachi sashimi with shaved truffle (nice idea but the flavors didn't meld), lobster (couldn't taste w all the nori), scallop (yum), sea urchin (yum yum), NY prime steak (over cooked well done). And some sort if dessert that tasted like rose air freshner."

  • "This was our 55th wedding anniversary dinner and we dined with another couple who are old friends. From the time that we got out of our Tesla and reached the front door to the time the we left after dinned, the service was stellar. Our waiter was all the a waiter is supposed to be! The pace of the meal was relaxed. The food was excellent and they kept bringing little treats between courses. We began with crab appetizer. Then, two of us had John Dory, one had duck, and one had scallops. The presentation and taste of each had each person smiling. The cotton candy dessert was great fun. All in all an outstanding evening, but bring your gold brick as the Sea demands a sizable booty! Worth every penny."
