Diner Reviews
  • "Our waiter was perfectly polite and helpful. However, his training was lacking . The dishes were delicious. We fault the restaurant for putting someone on the floor who was basically a novice."

  • "service-wise, lunch isn't as good as dinner, probably wont be a choice for lunch.thought the friendly server's new based on her service.with only a handful of individuals in the restaurant at the time, found the service lacking in attention&knowledge&dragging. stale bread; appetizers-on point specially hamachi shots with more crunch; salmon-delicate&tasty; risotto-'ll pass; surf&turf-chef lin makes entrees interesting! my friend irked me quite a bit from deliberately dressing way down&running, even made a fool of himself acting quite rugged during his supposedly bday lunch!must be why the restaurant never recognized his bday."

  • "This is a very special restaurant. The food was exceptional and the service was extraordinary."

  • "Was very excited about going here given the reputation of the steak house. unfortunately the food was not worth the price - by any stretch. We had the hamachi shots, raw oysters, seared big eye tuna, and seared mero. Both fish dishes were bland and the sauces were uninspiring. I think with a name like Alexander's they should seriously consider replacing the chef with someone that can live up to their high class name. The layout of the restaurant also seemed inconsistent with such a restaurant. The bathrooms are located at the far side downstairs."

  • "For the price you could probably do better. It was a nice eating experience but I would probably not return ."
    Dined on 3/30/2014
  • "The food was very good, the service was great, the space is stunning, comfortable and refined. But it is far too expensive for a very good meal - for appetizers in the $20s and entrees in the $40s (and some much higher), the food should be outstanding. For Palo Alto restaurants, Evvia and Tamarine make that jump from very good to outstanding, do it consistently and are less expensive."

  • "We came here to celebrate my husband's Retirement Day. The food was outstanding, the service even more so. I had forgotten what truly fine dining was like. Even with my husband's limited appetite, he ate better than I have seen him eat in ages. And we are already planning a return for lunch ( and Hamachi shots)"

  • "Went with only marginally high expectations, given other reviews, but still hopeful, given our experience at Alexander's in Cupertino. Party of 4 -- total cost $600 -- and there was simply nothing special about the evening. Yes, the food was good quality, but it wasn't an experience, which is what i expect for the cost. My order got mixed up with another of my friends -- which is something I expect at a Denny's not at a restaurant of this quality; most detrimental was that they keep interrupting us, not letting us set the pace of the meal . . . essentially, you pay a heck of a lot of money for some decent food -- rating: do not go. not worth it."

  • "Our dinner was incredible! Each beautiful dish arrived at the table in a timely manner. We had a wonderful time."

  • "Reason: Stake overcook. Not Yammy. Need more space between other table. Not enough Air in the restaurant. Only Environment Good."

  • "The food was amazing. They went out of their way to make it an enjoyable event. Free appetizer, port and cotton candy:)"

  • "Came with girlfriends for prix fixe lunch. We had clam chowder, crab cakes, Mero, salmon, chocolate dessert. (salmon was my favorite) Dazzling presentation. All delicious except chocolate dessert, although it was beautiful to look at. Good bread. Wonderful experience. Will definitely come back."

  • "The "regular" menu is great, so we had great expectations for their Tour of the Bay tasting menu. We left disappointed though, after spending more than $500, and only thinking that two out of the seven dishes were good. Pros: Service, ambience Cons: Mediocre food"

  • "Too many fawning waiter led to long waits between courses. We had a view of the kitchen caos Food was good but had been left out under heat lamps for 14 minutes. We could see it And timed it. Huge disappointment. Would never recommend this restaurant"

  • "Really liking this place. Food quality and flavor have been great and service is close to perfect. But my favorite is likely the small touches that make one feel special. A little extra here, something different there. My teen girls love this place as there is always something that "delights"."

  • "Went for Valentine's Day (day before) (02/14). The overall experience and food was fantastic. The only thing I need to ding them for is the service was a bit slow."

  • "The Alexander's restaurants have never let me down; their service is impeccable (we had Maria on this particular evening) and the food is always wonderful - we are completely addicted to the Hamachi Shots. It's pricey though so save up before you go!"

  • "As indicated the overall service and food was outstanding."

  • "The dining room was not noisy at all even though it was half full. Extremely high ceiling, soft white light from high windows and decorations providing a natural, relaxing, and inviting environment that's both warm and cool. Service was excellent. Food ranged from very good to excellent. I especially liked the fried clam soup, the Mexico prawns, and the truffle fries. Pleasant surprise - the apple green cotton candy."

  • "Everything, from the amuse bouche to dessert, is exquisitely and expertly prepared and served, as well it should be for the extremely high prices here. This is food that is impossible to duplicate at home."
    Dined on 2/18/2014
  • "The whole dining experience was exceptional. I was on business trip and the restaurant was recommended to me. Dining alone is never my favorite but the service, food and atmosphere simply put that of the equation. I would encourage everyone to enjoy a lovely evening and know that you are treated with the greatest of care in every way!!"

  • "I love Alexander's, so I thought this would be a good experience. It wasn't. At all. I went for Valentines Day. The service was poor (we waited 45 minutes for steaks (which were WAY overdone when they arrived (ordered medium-rare, arrived well-well done (zero color and zero flavor))). We ended up leaving before our dessert even arrived, because we were waiting so long (and we LIKE long/pricey meals). The food was marginal. The fish courses were just small-plate appetizers from the steakhouse, and the steak was HORRIBLE. Worst I've had at a restaurant in years. The ambience isn't great, either. Uncomfortable chairs. Uninspired layout. The walk to the bathroom feels like a walk through a dorm. The whole experience was just disappointing."

  • "Maybe the best meal of my life. Alexanders is fantastic, but there's so much more a chef can do with seafood, and they prepare amazing fresh food at The Sea."
    Dined on 2/17/2014
  • "I am not much of a seafood kind of guy, but the party I was hosting really wanted to go. I am a huge fan of Alexanders so I figured it would be good.......I was wrong, it was GREAT! I went all in and love everything. The himachi(sp?) shooters were amazing just like Alexanders, and the oysters were great. I had a white fish (starts with an M) that was suggested by the waiter and it was wonderfully flaking and delicious, without any fishy smell at all. We had a great Pinot Noir and finished dinner off with the Banana dessert! Loved every minute of my time there."

  • "We came here for a late dinner the day after Valentine's day and walked in to very unhappy hosts who walked us to the table. While the waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, we were very unsatisfied with the food, and the overall experience was below average. Not sure if it's because we came at 9:30pm, but the food, including the truffle fries, NY steak, and surf and turf were all over-salted and neither of us finished more than half our meal. The only good part about the meal was the croissant bread, which was superb. Overall, we would not return, nor would we recommend this "upscale" restaurant to any of our friends."

  • "They layout is a bit cookie cutter but not noticeable once you get the food and wine. The hamachi shots are an amazing explosion of flavors in your mouth. Black cod on the tasting menu is a must. Wine pairing is very good. Service can be improved (i.e., timing of wine pairings), but overall, Thomas was excellent."

  • "We had a nice 3 course prix fixe lunch for $35. Had the signature hamachi shots, tempura mero, and chocolate mousse for dessert. It was a splurge for lunch, but everything was delicious and worth it."

  • "Made reservations about 2 months in advance. Server was good but made us feel rushed. Food was ok. Not worth the price. And they add 20% gratuity to the bill in the form of a service charge and you get taxed on that! It was a prefixe menu which is a bummer. We got 1 Kumamoto oyster (couldn't taste w all the sauce), hamachi sashimi with shaved truffle (nice idea but the flavors didn't meld), lobster (couldn't taste w all the nori), scallop (yum), sea urchin (yum yum), NY prime steak (over cooked well done). And some sort if dessert that tasted like rose air freshner."

  • "The chowder was not very interesting. The clams were very very chewy and it gave up and took them out. The shrimp dish was very good. The lobster risotto was not very flavorful. The dessert was mediocre. Alexander's steak house seems a higher quality of food"

  • "The only good thing I can say about this restaurant was their ambience and decor. Otherwise, everything was very disappointing. The servers were very strange. From overly stuffy to just weird. Food was nothing to brag about. It was just okay, which is very disappointing considering how expensive the restaurant is and how much, they seem to rave about their food."

  • "This was our 55th wedding anniversary dinner and we dined with another couple who are old friends. From the time that we got out of our Tesla and reached the front door to the time the we left after dinned, the service was stellar. Our waiter was all the a waiter is supposed to be! The pace of the meal was relaxed. The food was excellent and they kept bringing little treats between courses. We began with crab appetizer. Then, two of us had John Dory, one had duck, and one had scallops. The presentation and taste of each had each person smiling. The cotton candy dessert was great fun. All in all an outstanding evening, but bring your gold brick as the Sea demands a sizable booty! Worth every penny."

  • "Food and service were great! Though too expensive. Its only for special occasion. We went on our 25th wedding aniversary and they treated us well. Will come back again. All booked for valentines on all location. I am very disappointed!"

  • "We had a great time at The Sea. Our entrees were delicious and the cotton candy was a fun touch to the evening. I must say however that I felt that the drinks and the food, although delicious was very expensive. The four of us each had a cocktail (one person a glass of white wine) and shared a split of wine, which was expensive considering the vintner and varietal we chose, and our bill was over $400 not including tip. Possibly a couple entrees could be added that were in the $25 to $35 range, especially since this is an ala carte menu. The service was good but for some reason, our waiter was talking so fast, we had to ask him a couple times the specials of the evening and how the food was prepared."
