A word from The Savoy Tavern
The Savoy Tavern is a beautiful two story eatery and bar located in Merrick, New York. Specializing in modern American fare, the menu shares influence from travels all throughout Italy and Europe.

Meatballs, the Panelle Sandwich (voted #1 by NY Magazine), Rice Balls Mussels, Chicken Milanese, Eggplant Parm Casserole, Mac-n-Cheese are crowd favorites - and bring forth inspiration from some of Europe's most cultured cities.

Happy Hour starts at 4pm daily and features draft beer, wine and cocktail specials complete with a $1 snack menu. Bar features 12 draft beers, cans and bottles.

The wine list was inventively curated and features New and Old world labels available by the bottle or glass. Local and seasonal wines pair well with the food.

Upstairs features a small lounge for cocktails and a semi-private dining room for up to 20 guests.

  • "Past Nicholas James patrons first time at the savoy. Restaurant has a good vibe but the only thing that reminded me of the great food at Nicholas James was the salad(pear,goat cheese). Everything else we ordered was not good starting with the bread that was brought to the table. It was not worth eating. I ordered a special of the day mink fish medallions. It was extremely fatty parts of it not eatable."

  • "We used to go to Nicholas James Bistro a lot, well, we finally got to Kevin's new restaurant, the Savoy. It was Lobster Night, so that's what we had, along with an extra app of beer mussels which were very good. I ordered steamed and my wife ordered broiled for the lobster. Both were excellent. Drinks were good. Was a bit noisy, just like the steakhouse that was there earlier, but I guess you can't help the clientele."

  • "My husband and I went to "dine" at the Savoy thinking it would be an enjoyable experience. The noise level was overbearing. I asked the manager a question regarding the wine and he made a condescending remark and laughed and walked away.We had to wait 45 minutes for our main couse, Anthony the manager never came over to apoligise for the wait. We will not be going back. Quite expensive for a Tavern."

  • "I enjoy going to Savoy. The food and service are consistently very good. I may be crazy but I think the menu prices have increased recently with most entrees being $26-$30. One person in our party ordered linguini fruiti d mare....$27! I had tuna over soba noodles....$29. I will think twice before going again because I just can't substantiate the prices in my mind. The food is good but we're not in manhattan."

  • "We went on Saturday night at 7:30. The restaurant is VERY LOUD. We were screaming at each other in order to be heard. Very vibrant bar scene. Fried Calamari was mushy and not crispy. Salads were excellent. Salmon was delicious as was the Tuna. The other veal dishes ordered by our table were very mediocre. Drinks good. I recommend it for the 25 to 35 year old bar scene types because when you go out with another couple; you'd actually like to speak to them while dining. "

When we heard that the Executive Chef and staff of the Savoy were from Nicholas James we hurried over and have now dined at the Savoy twice. Both experiences were terrific. The service is wonderful, quick and attentive and the food is spectacular. Well worth the trip!"

  • "The Savoy Tavern opened about two years ago in the shadows of an aborted steakhouse. The steakhouse was lousy and Savoy was no better. It was a beautiful space but the food was, shall we say, lackluster. Now with the reigns of the kitchen being handed over to new executive chef Kevin Leibov, formerly of Nicholas James, Savoy deserves a second look. The addition of a few of Chef Leibov's dishes and some new twists to some of the Savoy's standards have made for a vey nice dining experience worth trying. My wife enjoyed the simply grilled shrimp and I devoured my tuna. It's time to come back to Savoy folks!!!"

  • "Wow. Was hoping for this merger to be a new place for us to eat but from the poor service and below par food I guess the search continues for a place in Merrick to grab a bite. Very unhappy when you see people returning food because it was cold and the restaurant was not more than half full. If Kevin takes this place and turns it into the original Nicholas James we will return. "

  • "We only visited the Savoy Tavern because the Executive chef used to own Nicholas James Bistro. This tavern is very different to Nicholas James. Nicholas James Bistro was everything that I wanted in a restaurant, quiet, romantic and good food. Savoy Tavern was noisy and the food was not the best. I would reccommend the bar for a stop-off after a hard day's work but the restaurant is not worth the visit."

My friend had the Salmon that was raw and had to be sent back. We skipped dessert. They had a nice wine and specialty beer list. Good restaurant but not great. The service was a little slow."

  • "As the menu at the "old Savoy" will be changing I am looking forward to Kevin's proven, innovative, fresh and delicious dishes. The meal from Sat. night, ordered totally off the old menu was quite uninspiring and less than stellar. So looking forward to the new dishes. The staff was very friendly and explained the new updates that would be previewing this week, so I'm looking forward to going back and trying the "new Savoy" menu."

  • "Upon arrival for dinner, the hostess stared at us with confusion. I said "I have a reservation". I was able to see it was in her computer system under my name. "I'm sorry," she said, "I cannot seat you." I was unhappy with her response but I tried to be understanding. "When will you be able to seat us?" I asked. She replied "I don't know if I can accommodate you?" was her response. To which I answered in disbelief "Never?" I laughed. Tell me there is a six hour wait for my reservation but she implied that she could never seat us. She summoned a manager who said that it would be at least fifteen minutes, which was a better yet implausible answer. My wife and I stood there for 15 minutes and then left for dinner at a different restaurant."

  • "This was probably our 6th visit to the Savoy. Even though we enjoy the food, it may be our last. The service was very friendly but incredibly slow. 15 minutes after ordering coffee, we just asked for the check. That took almost as long as the food. I don't know what happened to their ability to handle their diners, but it was not full and they still had a very hard time keeping up. We also had a gift coupon they wouldn't honor because the expiration date was crossed out. But, that's how we received it in the mail when it came from the restaurant. We didn't bother arguing the point because it was aleady a long night."

  • "6:30 reservation and had to wait 15 minutes when there was many open tables. Got seated right next to another couple I felt like we were intruding. Tables are set very close together. Waitress was very nice. But we waiting 20 minutes to order after getting bread. We were there for almost 3 hours total. I believe it was the owner or manager who was annoying they were trying to set a table up for a large group and they were very loud and annoying to listen too while they were trying to set it up. I noticed that everyone else were having a problem with waiting to order as well. The food was decent. The place is nice but the tables are way too close and it's very uncomfortable."

  • "Okay so I made a reservation through open table at 4:00pm on Valentines in order to beat the rush. Well we got there and the doors were closed. I was ready to just find somewhere else but my friend insisted I called. After talking to one of the guys and explaining we had a reservation he was so kind to let us in. When we got in I think we spoke to the manager and he was really nice explaining that because it was a slower month they opened at 5 but hat we could sit and eat. We ordered the lobster Mac and cheese (amazing!), crab cakes (good but not the best I've had the homemade tartar sauce was definitly the star of the plate), the Bianco Mussels (absolutely delicious), and then we split the caprese salad which was small for the price."

  • "Love the Tuna Tar tar .. lobster mac was good, didn't taste the truffle though. Did not like the crab rangoons, they were fried and felt like thats all i tasted. Main meal was delicious, Got the salmon & the special which was marinated skirt steak. Very tasty. The dessert however, was not a fan. We ordered the Tiramasu which we thought tasted like eggnog. Not sure if it was the recipe or if the mascapone cheese could of possibly been bad."

  • "I've been to Savoy a few times and for the most part was very pleased. When I went this past week something was different. Service was crappy, & the food wasn't very good. Definitely not worth the money. Not sure if it was an off night, but I was disappointed. I will definitely try it again, but if it is at all similar to this experience, it will be my last time there."

  • "From the moment we walked in things were bad. We had an 8:00 reservation. We were told our table wasn't ready. Meanwhile, there were several empty tables. After 20 minutes we inquired about the empty tables and we were told they were reserved. For who? We were there with a reservation. After another 10 minutes, they said they'd seat us at one of the empty tables but we were told the kitchen is backed up and it may take 45 minutes to get any food. We sat anyway. Then we didnt see a waiter to even order drinks for 20 minutes. We finally flagged a waitress who was in training but she was the only efficient one there. she said she'd take our order. Food was nothing special. Other diners were also having problems too. We will not return."

  • "waited 20 mins to be seated even with a reservation, there were several tables open. Took another 20 mins to get our drinks. for apps we had the calamari 7 oysters - very good. entrees showed up only 4 out of the 6 got their entrees. after 25 mins of waiting we asked to speak to the manager and never came to our table, the waitress informed us there was no manager on duty so i wasked to speak to the owner who also never came to the table. the table next to me sent back an entree (same one i ordered) that made it to my table AFTER the person from the other table touched the food and decided he didnt want it. At that point we asked for the check and left."

  • "It was our first time to this restaurant. The staff was very polite. We were seated very quickly. Dinner service was very slow. The staff was very apologetic for the slow service. As far as the food, the appetizers were very good, the entrees were good but the sides had an incredible amount of garlic in them. I would definitely recommend this place for the bar and bar snacks and will probably give it another try for dinner in the future ."

  • "The host tried to steer us to the bar rather than to our table which was available. The waitress was friendly however forgot about our drinks and she had to be reminded. Finally, when the check was presented the waitress never came back to the table to collect the bill. We paid in cash so we were able to leave ( although I don't like leaving cash on the table) however if we were paying by credit card we might still be sitting there."
