Hostess and server were friendly, knowledgeable and came to check on us exactly when we needed them (not when our mouths were full of deliciousness and we couldn't talk, lol). Had two cocktails before dinner, both were great! Started off with the Crispy Brussel Sprouts - AMAZING! My girlfriend had the Shoulder Roast and I had the Candied Pork - both were good to the last bite! We had the Banana Foster for dessert and we left with happy tummies! The ambiance was great. GO!"

  • "Outstanding service. All wait staff and hostesses very friendly and accommodating. Food was nearly perfect. Deviled eggs the best I've ever had. We only had the HH menu, but hope to go back soon to try entrees as well. Nice wine list!"

  • "We started with some of their unique & yummy special cocktails and four little plates - brussel sprout leaves, duck liver mousse, fried eggplant, and duck fries. All of them were very nicely done, but I liked the brussel sprout leaves best. My husband had the pot pie, which was awesome, and I had the duck breast - also awesome. Nice wine to go along with the meal and then a butterscotch dessert, served with a glass of bubbly. Gina was our server, and she did a great job. We will definitely be going back for more!"

  • "We've only come here for special occasions, but our overall experience has been good because the food is good and unlike anything we would find at any other quality restaurant. We made a reservation and showed up early but were seated right away so I was happy about that. We came on a week night and the restaurant was quite full so I'm glad I made a reservation. My only complaint is that the noise level was extremely high. I'm not sure there is anything that can be done about that. We had to talk very loudly to hold a conversation. We have never sat outside so possibly it's less noisy out there but that was the one negative aspect of our eating experience. Service was good."

  • "Made a reservation for a Monday night, there was not much of a wait anyways, so I'm sure that on a busier night it is worth the extra effort to make a reservation. There is a parking lot so there is a plenty of place to park right next door. The atmosphere is outstanding, very Austin. The food is unbelievable. There are so many things on the menu to choose from, that picking just one is the hardest part. So I didn't just pick one. I had a little bit of everything. Everything is just fabulous, The service is great as well for being a Austin Hot Spot. There is no reason to go and not to share there. Loved the whole experience, nothing that I did not enjoy. I highly recommend going here with friends or on a cozy date"

  • "Went on a Sunday evening. The good: Fish and Beef shoulder were great, but a touch dry. Sauces and sides were fantastic. Ambiance was nice (not too crowded, not too noisy, but not empty either). The place was clean. The bad: Our particular server wasn't the greatest. He arrived late (just past happy hour, so that was annoying), and was absent most of the meal. The ugly: Flies were buzzing around our food - and most annoyingly - in my face the whole time (we were indoors)."

  • "The atmosphere itself was great, was able to sit outside on a cool summer evening which provided great people watching. Very difficult to choose from such a great menu, but the fries are definitely recommended. The savoriness of the duck fat infuses well into the fries. The waiter (Jacob) steered me in the right direction by pointing me to the pork belly. Typically, I'm not a fan since it is served too fatty and gummy. But this was more meaty than most, with just a bit of fat and a nice, crispy, sweet skin to balance out the richness of the pork. Absolutely fantastic!"

  • "Picked the Salty Sow to celebrate our seven year anniversary. I stated in the OpenTable notes that we prefer a low traffic table away from the kitchen and they seated us at a perfect table for two in a cozy spot. Dinner lows: the AC vent had a direct shot at my neck so we adjusted the table and it was fine. And one plate we ordered was a bit too salty but the waiter happily took our feedback to the kitchen for future reference. Dinner highs: Hard to order when you want one of everything from the menu. And not just the food, the drink choices are phenomenal too. Great portion sizes, perfect temperatures, plates present well. And every recommendation we asked for was met with a genuine response from the waiter. Excellent experience."

  • "We wanted to love this place. It came highly recommended by my sister, who lives in Austin. The duck fat fries were not as flavorful as we had hoped for. We actually asked for ketchup? I don't ever think that's a good sign. The pork belly was delicious but the collard greens it sat on were too bitter for my taste. I LOVE balsamic vinegar, but it just didn't taste right. My husband's beef shoulder was yummy, but nothing to write home about. The highlight of the meal was the side of crispy brussels sprout leaves. We polished that off quickly and could have eaten more. Because we weren't blown away, we didn't get dessert. Service was good. The restaurant has a great vibe and could be romantic, but it is WAY too loud."

  • "The Salty Sow provides an awesome twist to classic southern down home food. Each offering, from the appetizers through dessert, has a little unusual surprise to make the food interesting. The mild taste of horseradish in the deviled eggs, the salty pork tenderloin on sweet potatoes and the molasses drizzled over bananas foster beignets with ginger ice cream.......oh my gosh!! We tried some of everything and not one thing was disappointing. A great place to find unique dishes :)"

  • "The decor is terrific and the staff were all attentive and polite. I think the next time I go, I may just skip the entrees and eat more of the appetizers. Do not make the mistake of not getting the chicken liver mousse. It has to be the best thing on the menu. The entrees were good, but not on the level I was expecting. I felt the duck was over cooked and the beef shoulder was regular pot roast, but the flavors were great. The banana foster beignets made a very unique and delicious dessert. Think fried banana pudding, but not. The biggest down-side were the other patrons wearing shorts and t-shirts. It's a nice place where you can easily spend over $200 if you are getting drinks, so you should be an adult and dress the part."

  • "Salty Sow is a trendy place to go with friends and have a great time. The food is good, the service is adequate, and the atmosphere bustling. However, there were some drawbacks. First, the $8 drinks were way too small. The glasses were small to begin with, and on top of that, they were filled with 3 large square ice cubes or a single monster ice cube that displaced over 50% of the glass volume (I tested it by pulling the ice cube out), so you're not getting much for that $8. Second, my dinner was served in a beat up stainless cooking pan. What??? Why??? It wasn't cooked it the pan, and the pan didn't add any character. Also, they could use real napkins instead of the dish towels they have. A little too kitschy, but overall good."

  • "I recommend the Mr Shaw for a drink, if you like lime in your drink, you will like Mr Shaw. Food was great, the price of the food was great. Only recommendation is for the waiting staff to ask if the table wants anything else before bringing the check, it is a big turnoff for me when waiters do this. Other than that, not a very long wait for food. Good place."

  • "Salty Sow you were amazing to say the least; I never wanted to leave you. If you were an actual woman, my girlfriend woudl have some serious competition. One of the best meals I've had in a while. That salmon rillette was unreal. Those crispy brussel sprouts were like crack. The beef shoulder was ridic! Never thought I'd have a pot roast style dish better than my grandma's, but you have managed to achieve that status of perfection. And a freakin cocktail flight? You kidding me over here!? That was so badass! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience for my girlfriend and I."

  • "This is the second time we have been to this place and though the menu is small we were not disappointed. The cocktails are fresh and inventive, the plate selections range from pork to beef to chicken to seafood and the desserts are just amazing. We had our 7 month old and 5 year old with us and it was great. They don't have high chairs available here so be sure to request a banquette so you can place a child seat on the booth side."
