Exceptional food and service. Only
problem I had was the reservation. I made it 1.5 hrs before our 5:30 reservation. There was no reservation under my name. After I was seated I checked my email. I had a conformation so I showed the owner and rechecked res list I was listed at that point. Not sure what happened. Owner said he's had that occur before."

The Saloon in Newtown, Pa. is a
deceiving gem. While the outside of this establishment might make it easy to miss, the inside has a simple beauty which makes it perfect for a date night. With a fine bar list and an excellent food selection, the Saloon will send everyone home happy. The management is very accommodating, and the staff is also very helpful."

We thought we would change it up
and try something different. Should have kept looking. The food was just OK. For the money, it should be better than OK. The server was indifferent. We know it was Valentines Day, but I think he would have rather been anywhere else than serving. Overall, just OK. Better places for similar money."

Food was very good but had to send
back my husband's meal as it was cold. Waiter was responsive and handled situation efficiently."

We were seated quickly and our
server was there in 2 minutes to take our beverage order and tell us about specials. The fresh warm bread with olive oil for dipping was excellent. Muscles fra Diavlo appetizer was huge. We were surprised to see almost 2 dozen muscles in a wonderful tomato broth with garlic. My husband had Crab Cakes, potatoes and asparagus. A large portion with 2 big lump crab meat cakes lightly coated with breadcrumbs. Asparagus was perfectly grilled and tender with a mountain of mashed potatoes. I had Tilapia Francaise with crab meat, artichokes and sundried tomatoes. Delicious! Our server was fantastic! There when we needed him yet left us alone long enough for us to talk and enjoy our meal. We will definitely be back."

Been here many times. Service and
the food is consistently good. A great place close to home."

We go to the Saloon often and
always have a great meal. Donna is an awesome waitress and really takes care of her customers. My favorite dish is the Cajun Mango Salmon and it was great (as usual)!"

The service was excellent and the
atmosphere was nice. It was quiet the night of New Year's Day, which was suitable. The app and entree portions were large, so beware! I recommend the Choc Strawberry martini for dessert. It was incredible!"

Went for NYE dinner and everything
was fresh, delicious and prepared perfectly. Shrimp cocktail was fresh, large and even the cocktail sauce was perfect with just enough kick. Caprese salad was also wonderful, and was enough to share as a mid course. We also each had the twin lobster tails and they were AMAZING, cooked to perfection and we both ate every bite. Service was good, even though it was busy, Donna was always there when we needed something. Speed of food was perfect, not to slow, not to fast. Make sure to have a Stoli Doli from the bar...they are delicious and a little lethal!"

This was our second trip to The
Saloon. Once again, the food was excellent, The restaurant has a nice selection of entrees that cover a range of styles, from seafood to Italian. The menu is not overwhelmingly large but there are enough choices that making a selection can take some time. When our waiter overheard one of our party say she was disappointed because something was not on the menu, he offered to have it made up for her anyway. Our waiter was excellent. He knew the menu inside and out, could fully explain every item on it and had some great recommendations. He was always there when we needed him but never hovered. It seemed that he made it a point to walk by frequently so that we could let him know if we needed anything."

We choose The Saloon from the
internet as we were visiting from Southern MD. We found the food to be excellent as well as the service. I recommended it to my sister-in-law who just moved to Newtown."

Took two colleagues to The Saloon
for lunch before the holidays. Food was good as always, service was slow although the restaurant wasn't that busy. I've been to The Saloon before for lunch and the service was slow (shouldn't have to wait long to get your bill and pay it). Dinner experience I had there was much better from a service standpoint - and of course the food was great."

Interesting find. Excellent Menu.
Never would have happened upon this establishment on as a stand alone. Found the the parking lot overflowing with locals that were "in the know" about this "off the main track" place. Although it could use a little more decor in line with its Civil War heritage, the menu was quiet surprising and expansive. Would recommend this establishment as representative of a Pennsylvania eatery that will offer a pricing and quality competitive with Phillly and New York .... without having to travel far from home."

Efficient, not too loud, friendly
service. The food was excellent."

Food was great. Creative menu.
Lots of choices. Wine too. Very crowded high noise level. Try it on a weeknight."

The food, service, and atmosphere
was a pleasant experience! I would recommend to others looking for a diverse menu with large portions!"

they outdid themselves this time. We will be back"

definitely go again!"

Our experience at the Saloon was
absolutely great. The food and service were outstanding. The filet melted in our mouths The waiter, Ron, was very personable and made our night a truly fun time. Can't wait to go again."

I've been here several times and
each time it is better! The Saloon has the BEST calamari appetizer I've had anywhere! They serve it with two sauces, the classic marinara which is delicious and a thicker anchovy based option that is to die for, even if your not a fan of anchovies. The pasta bolognese is also one of the best I've had. The portions are on the larger side, so prepare to take some home. The drinks are also very well made."

Great service from Donna. The chef
rocks, food was extraordinary."

And it was...new foods were
ordered this time, I ordered the salmon with crab scampi and my husband, the filet. Both were perfectly cooked perfectly and tasted delicious! Thank you again, Saloon! You never disappoint!!"

Pricey, but fresh food, linen,
very good service, and very tasty entrees are worth it. Appetizers and deserts are very nice. Three big scoops of three flavors of sorbet, a creme brulee (sp) cheese cake with strawberries and whipped cream on thew side was a highlight for my guests. I had veal Francaise (sp) that was delicious. Next time I may go for the sea bass. A very nice experience. If patrons care to, there is also an outside dining area."

We always choose the Saloon!
Steven, our waiter, always makes a fuss over us. Very comfortable and yummy!"

Me and my wife went for my
birthday dinner. Our first time there. I picked it over the Temperance house, which has always been nice. Glad we tried the Saloon. Food, service, ambiance, was outstanding."
Dined on 9/15/2013
Disappointing night out, apps and
drink specials were good, but the main courses were sub-par. Veal saltimbucco gravy was too thick, almost like gravy for a meat loaf. The other entree a penne dish was bland and the sauce was watery. Not what we've been accustom to from the Saloon. Will be awhile befo we consider going back."

I frequently dine at the
restaurant but this time I had family come in from out of town and decided to take them there, I must say they were all extremely happy with the food and service and could not stop telling me about it 2 days later!! it is a must go to if in the area visiting or if you are local and have never been there! We went to The Saloon as a halfway
point meeting for friends from different areas. None of us knew of the restaurant and it was recommended by yet another person. What a pleasant evening! Great food, drinks and attentive service. All in all, a very enjoyable evening destressing from a crazy week at work. I had a most delicious salad with salmon. The others had full meals and everyone enjoyed their choices. Will go back again!"

I highly recommend this
restaurant. Everyone in my party enjoyed their food; I look forward to returning!"
Dined on 8/17/2013
We went for a late, light dinner
and were not disappointed. Menu had a good selection and it was hard to make a decision!! I can't wait to go back and try other things off the menu - perhaps on the deck this time!"

NIce decor, good food, wide
variety of choices, pleasant staff, take reservations. Chicken with sausage was excellent, as was the salad topped with a crispy crabcake."

We love dining at The Saloon. Food
is always excellent, hot and brought out on a timely basis. Never disappoints!"
Dined on 6/9/2013
We ate outside and thankfully it
was the end of our meal but a couple of employees went to the 'front porch' area to smoke. The smoke wafted back to our table which made us have to get up and leave. When we left to the back parking lot two more employees were smoking on the stairs in the back (which arguably was better). Overall though we had Marybeth as our server and she was amazing. She is attentive even when she is busy. The maître d' is always very quietly friendly and accommodating. Saloon is one of our favorite 'go to' spots....I just wish the whole smoking thing doesn't become a habit."
Dined on 6/1/2013
Excellent food with great
atmoshere. Our server was attentive and efficient. We will be back."
Dined on 4/18/2013
Our veal entrees were well
presented and delicious. When we ordered desserts, the server should have told us that they were large enough for two. Luckily we'd left room and were able to finish them without feeling stuffed."
Dined on 4/13/2013
Though our meal was good, it
certainly didn't warrant the price ($30 for tilapia francese). In fact, overall pricing was a bit over the top for what you get ($12 martinis). For anyone who cares about lighting (and this is the biggest reason we won't be back), it was far too bright in the main dining room, especially if you're seated along the wall underneath the sconces. It didn't make us want to settle in and have a long meal. The name of the restaurant has to go, unless for some historical reason it has to stay. "The Saloon" suggests tavern fare, not italian cuisine. If we were to go back, we'd probably try out the bar section of the restaurant, which has its own seating. It seemed to be a bit more cozy in there."
Dined on 4/5/2013
The food was very good as usual.
The Cajun Mango Salmon is outstanding."

Matre D never acknowledged our
reservation. The shrimp in the scampi was hard and overcooked. service was attentive and couteous."
