Diner Reviews
  • "We went last year for my birthday and had amazing service, awesome food and such wonderful memories! Would've rated 5 stars all around. This visit it was busier, we'd put in a request for a window seat but was unavailable which is fine... But felt like they were short staffed perhaps. I ate cold food that was not as great as I remember and they didn't have the wine we requested... Disappointed... They did comp our desserts which was a nice gesture... Not sure we will be back on a special occasion again..."

  • "I have been dining in the Salmon House since they opened in the 80s. It is a great place to take visitors and wow them with the spectacular views of Vancouver and the excellent local menu. Whenever I take visitors, or people who have not been there before I feel a great sense of pride in showing off what Vancouver's North Shore has to offer. The quality of the experience has not wavered over the years, and I still feel great going there every time, even when I don't bring guests and just go there because I want to treat myself."

  • "The service was amazing and very pleasant to deal with. The staff are super friendly and outgoing. The food was a little bland and could have used more flavour. Cheers"

  • "We had not been for years to this restaurant. Found food and service to be at least as good as years ago. We shall return again soon"

  • "We travel once a year to Bc and we plan the trip around going out for dinner at the Salmon house,we changed our flight once just to stay for dinner.,We have been going to the Salmon house for ten years and I can say we have had a great time, great food and and view of the entrance to the harbour."

  • "Beautiful spot and very good service. Unfortunately, food was just so so."

  • "We have dined at Salmon House many times and each time is just as special as the first. Promptly seated, server acknowledge us right away. He made us feel very welcome and chatted a bit without being too personal. Menu has changed slightly but lots of choices even if you don't want seafood. Fresh, well seasoned food, from appetizer to dessert. Prices average for fine dining. Good wine lists, drink choices. Not rushed through dinner...and nice to see everyone pitching in to clear plates if necessary or deliver food. Wonderful view, clear night. Very good evening...and we will be back again soon."

  • "The day we went the weather was dreadful so we weren't able to appreciate the view (most unfortunate). There were only 3 tables occupied that day, despite that, service was very slow & indifferent. We were not offered a wine list when we arrived, nor were we offered a coffee refill. After we had received the menu's it was a long while (20 mins or so) before the server came to take our order - he was going back & forth the restaurant but made us feel invisible. The food was good & we will likely return - hopefully on a sunny day."

  • "Beautiful view, wonderful service & every dish was excellent & well presented. A lovely dinner out with friends."

  • "the portions were very skimpy, such as the ceasar salad was more like a small side salad yet at regular prices, i had the trio the piece of salmon was about 2 inches, i have eaten there on a number of occasions this was the worst i have eveer had up there..."

  • "Lovely views, good food and attentive but not intrusive service. A good choice if you like food with a great view!"

  • "The view is spectacular and the food excellent. Service just as it should be - attentive but not intrusive. The three course special menu is incredible value. No choices in that menu, but all three dishes did not disappoint. The tomato based soup had lots of seafood in it, the salmon main course just right. I particularly liked the sauce with the vegetables. And dessert was a mini apple crumble beautifully presented. My partner's lobster pasta was also excellent with ample pieces of lobster. Only the noise from a couple of children at nearby tables spoiled a perfect evening and that is no reflection on the restaurant which is definitely one of my favourite places."

  • "Our latest visit to the Salmon House was delicious once again, but attending this time with a friend who also enjoys a nice bottle of wine, we found the wines to be priced well beyond the usual 1.5 to 2 times the retail price that most restaurants offer. Neither of us has ever felt compelled to take advantage of the 'corking fee' option when dining out, but we thought perhaps that would be prudent if going here again…only to find out that the restauranteur has decided not to offer that option any longer. We were able to find a bottle from a more obscure vineyard that my companion knew was excellent, so we at least made the $$$ spent on the wine a little less painful knowing that we'd enjoyed a bottle that is difficult to acquire."

  • "I have had some mixed experiences at this restaurant, but brunch on a Sunday in the middle of winter is obviously the time to go; the place was practically deserted at 11:30 and only had 2 more parties show up in the hour we were there, so nice and quiet and no trouble getting a window table in the corner. The meals were excellent and the coffee actually much improved over past experiences (imagine bilge oil). The servers were friendly but not overly so."

  • "Food was very good and the services inside was also was very good, however the front desk service is lacking people with experience for this kind of restaurant."
    Dined on 2/28/2014
  • "Good service , fish was subpar. Dry and tiny portions with flavour that should be of a restaurant in the 10-15 dollar range. Would not go back."

  • "would be nice to see a menu change Alaska black cod would nice to see again. fine place to dine just feel the menu is dated"

  • "The ambience was lovely, low volume, beautiful lighting, tables spaced to provide sufficient privacy. We had an excellent server who was knowledgable of both the food and wine menu and didn't check on us excessively. Our salad, dinners, and dessert were absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Unfortunately it was a snowy night so we did not get to enjoy the view. My only criticism is that I found the menu options to be lacking. For a restaurant named "The Salmon House", I anticipated a selection of seafood entrees and was disappointed to find only two options for salmon yet there was duck, beef, and lamb on the menu. I would have prefered more west coast seafood choices."

  • "It was disappointing to show up and not have our reservations on their schedule. Fortunately it was not a busy night and we were able to get a seat."

  • "The view is beautiful it is worth booking early to get the best seats by the window. The food is very good however on this occasion it wasn't quite as good as usual the food was a little over seasoned with salt and pepper. Over all still not bad"

  • "Food was great, a little pricey but you get what you pay for with excellent seafood, and other great food. View is awesome. Ambience is nice and very west coast. Service was good too"

  • "Great view of Vancouver but that's it. Ate here a few years back and enjoyed the food. I can only assume the place has fallen on hard times. Either that or the current chef needs firing. Three of us had the salmon, which was overdone. The potatoes were greasy, the crab and lobster salsa (meant to accompany the main) was virtually non-existent. The atmosphere was good and the view of Vancouver was impressive but that was it."

  • "The view is magnificent; however the service was terrible. Everyone was running food to the tables, including the girls at the front door greeting guests. Food was mediocre at best, crime brûlée was runny like milk and it took forever to get drinks, or any of the courses. This is not our first time dining at the restaurant but it will be the last. This is not a fine dining establishment."

  • "Breathtaking view of Downtown, Lion's Gate Bridge, Richmond, the Burrard Inlet and the sunset! We came during Dine Out, which we had forgotten about, which was good on the pocketbook but as with most dine-outs/Valentines/mothers day, wasn't indicative of what the kitchen is capable of. I've been here for brunch which was wonderful. The staff are very attentive. I would come here again for dinner and order off the regular menu. If you come early (before 530) you will probably get a window seat."

  • "If you want a beautiful view of Vancouver while eating some of the best seafood available and enjoying this in a lovely atmosphere, this is the restaurant. You don't need to have a window seat in order to enjoy the view. We thought the Prawns were superb as were the scallops. Absolutely outstanding service."

  • "This restaurant was a great place to take my best friend out for her birthday. We did dine early, so pretty much had the place and staff to ourselves."

  • "I will save the adjective fabulous for the sunset view, but the food was't bad either. We enjoyed the hot pot. It was a rich tomato broth with small chunks of seafood. We also shared the salmon terrine. Definitely a disappointment. Not very flavourful and kind of chewy?! Three of us had the grilled prawns (excellent), and one had the salmon (very nice). The brownies were delicious and the poached pear was a nice lighter offering. None of us needed doggy bags, but none of us went home hungry either. We had a toddler seated below us and she was a little cranky but the parents did their best and we all have to learn. Ask for a table on the middle riser against the rail. We had an excellent view."

  • "we went to the restaurant for a special birthday for the significant other. The view was magnificant even though it was nighttime (have to go back daytime).. we went during dine-out and the place was packed. The dine-out price was good, and we ordered the hot pot and goat cheese salad as appies , which were great. I ordered a red truck ale, but they took forever to get it to me. Sevice was slow, but I could see why with all tables taken. Entree was the salmon and the prawns which was good although a little skimpy and it was slow arriving Desserts were the pear (really good!) and the brownie (icing was not great) overall it took two hours for the dinner, for us who are unusual to be more than one hour, but i guess it was the dine-out crowd"

  • "It was a clear night and we had a table by the window. The view was fantastic. Food was decent, the drunken poached pear was the best of the 3 courses we tried. Service was slow, we ordered wine but it took a long time for it to be served. I would come back to this restaurant for the view."

  • "Went during DIne Out Vancouver, the place was packed which created a lively atmosphere. We all ate from the Dine Out Vancouver menu, the food was generally very good but the portions were disappointingly small, those who had the brownie for desert were very disappointed with the gelatinous topping and very hard brownie. Service was exceptionally brisk but then again I guess they were trying to get as many covers as possible during the festival."

  • "We went out for my b-day dinner & I mentioned this was my b-day dinner. We are assigned at the best seats, corner by the window table. The view was amazing! Our server was attentive& food was great too. Never tried this restaurant before. Not very convention location but we will be coming back for sure."
