A word from The Saint
A modern take on a classic American tavern, The Saint is a friendly neighbourhood spot located on the very popular Ossington strip in Toronto. Our menu derives from ethically sourced ingredients, meticulously executed to best showcase the familiar flavours of North American cuisine.
With hospitality that provide all the comforts of home, our contemporary space evokes a nostalgic bistro-style feel. We offer booth seating for intimate evenings, a 20 seat zinc bar for those for those looking to sample a signature cocktail, one of our many featured beers or a casual dinner in a vibrant atmosphere while watching the game.
Paying homage to the Wesley United Church, the original Saint on Ossington and a pillar of the community built in 1875 on the corner of Ossington and Dundas, we value family and camaraderie. We honour that church, the neighbourhood and the community with a guild antique mirror that hangs behind the bar.

Diner Reviews
  • "Food was really good but I was a bit shocked when the bill came. Too expensive for the kind of resto it is."

  • "nice place, good lines in terms of decor and such. not terribly loud - felt like a French bistro, actually. Foodwise, the pierogies are to die for! and the griddled tomatoes - seriously delicious. However, I wouldn't order the steak tartare again - it looked more like a hamburger patty in shape and colour. All in all, we'd go back for sure - and try some different stuff. But pierogies are a must."

  • "Our first visit there to celebrate my partner's birthday. Enjoyed the heavenly oysters pre-dinner. Our server was very friendly, knowledgeable and provided excellent service. Interesting design of the very long bar. Dinner was great- entrees are great for sharing between two and we really enjoyed the perogies, smoked duck nuggets, burger and fried chicken. Will definitely return!"

  • "the saint is a surprise hit, wonderful pockets of locale in Toronto, Ossington is defn a place to go, street parking is difficult to find hit the green P. Duck Nuggets home made mustard, excellent little treats from the pews, welcome and accomidating staff, menu is not what you would expect and something of a treat from the old staple chains."

  • "The food was what you would expect from the Jacob's team! The service was great, friendly and quick."

  • "Came here specifically to try the French Toast, was not disappointed. Loved the Nutella mousse, though would have preferred slightly less of the fruit compote, but that's just personal preference. Nice, quick service in a great atmopshere."

  • "We went knowing what we wanted, and when we got there, not only were they sold out of buck-a-shuck, but they had pulled some items off their menu. I pouted to the waitress and mentioned that the website wasn't updated, so she talked to the manager, and he decided to give us a great deal! I hope they bring back their pâté though."

  • "Returning to The Saint for another dinner was wonderful. The chicken and rib entrees for two were delicious. The service was attentive, knowledgeable And the server polite and attractive."

  • "A small efficient menu means everything coming out of the kitchen is well executed & delicious. My husband ordered the burger & it was one of the best he's had... They grind their own mix with brisket. I shared starters of beef tartare (well seasoned, balanced) , beet salad (delicious bursts of tangy & sweet with creamy & crunchy) and mains of fish (not over cooked, lovely light batter) & fried chicken (juicy, crispy) with a side of roasted cauliflower (addictive) . The most memorable dishes were definitely the sides for the fried chicken - excellent mac & cheese & a coleslaw my mom loved because it was more savoury then sweet & sour."

  • "Great food, great service. The fries and marrow mayo were delicious, and the beet salad was excellent. My friends had the cheeseburger and the fried chicken - both looked scrumptious. The cocktails were great - not too sweet. The service was pretty good. The low-point was the pecan pie. The crust had been overcooked, but I liked that it wasn't too sweet!"

  • "I had heard fabulous things about this place for some time, and when I went I was NOT disappointed. We went for brunch w/ a friend visiting from NYC ... and all of us fell in love with the Donuts. To the point we over indulged and had it at the beginning & the end of our brunch ... the Duck Eggs Beni were made to perfection ... they surpassed my every expectation... I would go back in a heartbeat!"

  • "Disappointed with the food. Roast beef so tough it could not be chewed and fried chicken overcooked and dry. Beet salad delicious."

  • "The menu at the Saint is great. They do brunch, which I hear is phenomenal. We came on a Friday night for a birthday dinner. We shared warm olives and a cheese plate, that were the stars of the night. Both delicious and generous in portions. Next I had a potato crusted trout, which sounded much better than it was and my boyfriend had the ribeye steak, which came with a melted herbed butter. It was perfectly cooked with a great crust, the flavors were fabulous. We ordered cocktails, which are extensive, unique and delicious. Our first cocktails took over 20 minutes to come so they were on the house, which was a nice apology. All in all, good vibe and great music. No patio and really cold but food was good!"

  • "My wife and I shared the delicious whole roast chicken, and there was enough to take some home. I would also recommend the Malbec. Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays feature $1 oysters. The service was excellent. Will return again and again."

  • "Went to The Saint on a Monday. Busy enough, but not overwhelming with people. Booths are large and the atmosphere is urban chic. One of the benefits of Mondays is that the oysters are a 'buck a shuck'. And they don't skimp. The oysters were huge. Tasty with a number of interesting sauces to make it different. The rest of the menu is short but the food is quite good. Had the potato-breaded cod, which was nicely presented. And the perogies and pork belly was worth it. All in all, this is a nice local place. It's a bit out of my way at Ossington and Dundas, but if in the area, it's absolutely worth a visit. "

  • "Colleagues and I have met up at The Saint a couple of times in the past year for dinner before attending events in the neighbourhood. The beer selection is great, the food is delicious, with some surprise ingredients added to comfort fare, the setting is comfy and relaxing (love the semi-circular booths), and wait persons are pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable. I need to get back to this place more often and need to introduce friends to it."

  • "Enjoyed a great meal with my family last Sunday. Have go-to's in the Saint's bar and dinner menus, but found new favorites to start the day too. Scones were fresh from the oven and disappeared as quickly as they arrived. Loved the grown-up version of the breakfast sandwich - great sausage topped w a perfectly cooked duck egg. The berry pancakes also deserve special mention as much for the quality of the fruit as for their perfect weight and texture. Service was v. friendly and our waitress was helpful & knowledgeable about the menu, but service was a bit unfocused, forgetting 2x when table made requests; would be better if wait staff didn't all loiter at the bar, comparing notes about their Sat. night exploits..."

  • "Loved the ambience, food, and service here. Really quick on the food, and wow was it ever filling. The duck egg benedict (or whatever it's actually named) is very tasty and hits the spot perfectly for a nice stroll around the neighbourhood after. Trust me, you'll be good 'til dinner. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Whether it's the buck a shuck, the fried chicken or brunch the food is always great! The bar is a great place to catch a game or catch up with friends or family in one of the booths"

  • "I was told that the brunch was fantastic, so I made reservations for a friend and I to have brunch last Saturday @ 10:30am. The food was good, definitely. The service was bad. The waitress spilt the coffee all over the table and had to replace the unused napkins. Then we moved to the bar because there was more room, and the service was next to nothing. Took a while for coffee and a menu at the bar. 3 guys behind the bar and we didn't get any attention. Don't think I would recommend it, although the food was good. Exactly why I would go back, but don't want that experience again. I like to give second chances. I just wasn't impressed."

  • "Went to the Saint on a Sunday for a few dozen buck-a-shuck oysters and a bunch of snacks/apps. We had the grilled salami, duck nuggets, steak tartare and the ruben sausage. The restaurant was pretty busy cnsidering it was Sunday and the food was on point as usual! The oysters came out quickly and service at the bar was very attentive. Thanks for a great night!"

  • "We went on a Saturday night. Good points - hearty, interesting, well-prepared food. Very easy to order too much. Good value for money. Enthusiastic servers. Original cocktail offerings and the bartender even whipped up something interesting and non-alcoholic for a teenager. Downsides - gets very loud. And places that charge for bread are a pet peeve. Will probably go back just to try some more of the menu items."

  • "Had brunch a few weeks back - really good! Returned for diner on a Friday night - really busy , waited for table 15 mins , server was good ,salad was smallest in Toronto , ordered 25oz ribeye steak to share came out cold , everything was cold . Dropped the ball on this one , probably won't be back ."

  • "Great restaurant to have brunch with friends. Although difficult to hear at times due to music and perhaps the poor acoustics. I was very pleased with the quality of the food and attentiveness of the staff."

  • "Amazing! Without a doubt the more enjoyable and palatable meal in my life. So much, that midway through the meal I called and insisged my brother, who lived close by, come and join us as well. Wonderful service, knowledgeable staff, great wine and wonderful food. Worth every dollar."

  • "...shame about the Dark and Stormy! Enjoyed a great meal here - buck-a-shuck oysters were great, as was the beef salami. Mains (steak and daily sausage, respectively) were delicious, especially the light touch of the 'tater tots' with the steak. Only downside was the after-dinner cocktail (dark and stormy) we decided to have, which tasted nothing like a Dark and Stormy that either of us had ever had. To be fair, the waitress noticed our displeasure and offered to change the drinks, but being polite Canadians, we both declined (much to our regret). Even so, meal was very good and service was, as well..."

  • "Having been there once before and loved it, I brought a friend from out of town to enjoy The Saint. We tried almost all of the small plates, the burger and the sausage of the day which were all amazing, as well as some cocktails and beers. Everything was excellent, including the service, the only thing that we could say negatively was that the blueberry pie wasn't stellar, but still good, and not what their known for. Would definitely recommend."

  • "I had brunch at The Saint and was very happy with the experience .... sunny spot at the front, great service and yummy food! I went back for dinner ... nice booth, great service and good food. My friends had enjoyable meals (burger, fried chicken). I ordered the skirt steak and although the flavours were delicious, the meat was very chewy. The waiter did describe the meal for me but I tried it anyway. A different cut of beef would have made my meal perfect. Dessert is delicious but large - good for sharing."

  • "Great venue for a good Sunday dinner, especially the Yorkshire Pudding"

  • "Went for brunch last Sunday for the first time as the menu was different and interesting featuring a lot of duck which I love. We had reservations at 11am and our server took our drink and food order about 15 minutes after we were seated. However, it took about 30 minutes before our food order arrived which is really slow considering I had ordered a salad and my husband the eggs benedict. Granted the ingredients were very fresh and the food was tasty, but nothing that extraordinary to warrant the long wait. On a side note, if you're going to give it a try, the thick cut bacon is very tasty!"

    Dined on 2/3/2014
  • "Another trip to the Saint for "Buck a Shuck" on a Tuesday evening. Food was great as usual. Those pirogies are to die for. The only glitch was the service. It took a long long time between appetizers and the main course and on top of it all, the server totally forgot to bring out the soup ordered by one of the diners. This is inexcusable and hopefully is just a blip on the Saint's otherwise great record."

  • "I went to The Saint for brunch, and it was awesome! The food was super tasty, and it's such a cute restaurant. Our server was great, he seemed to know exactly when I needed more coffee...not just when my cup was empty, but just as the coffee in my cup began to cool off, he would top me up. A very important skill to have as a server :) Will definitely come back"
