  • "This may become my favorite neighborhood restaurant. So nice to have the wait staff recognize you and the waiter recalling what you order for drinks! Food was fresh, service impeccible and the restaurant was filled with couples, families and kids. Deliciously prepared salmon over kale salad! Yummy rolls and fabulous desserts. Saint James is here to stay. Can't wait to return."

  • "We have been to st. James several times. We take the kids. It's great for all of us and my husband I feel like we are having a night out too!the food is well done. Kale salad is delicious!!! 5 star from us! Thank u!"

  • "Wow. Just wow. The space and mix of textures throughout was warm and inviting. Our waiter, Sheldon, was perfect. The food - We started with the hummus. The olives, peppers, and cucumbers were perfectly offset by the garlic in the hummus. For the main course, I had Scampi and my friend the pasta bolognese. The portions were much bigger than they looked and were delicious. I have ordered scampi at a number of chain and boutique restaurants in the area, and this was by far the best ever. Really. We finished the meal with warm cookies and fresh whipped cream which were sinfully decadent and the perfect ending to an exceptional meal. We both agreed that it was not only worth the trip, but The Saint James was worth several return visits."

  • "Hamburgers are excellent. Chicken parm could use more seasoning. Appetizer ok but not hot enough inside (franks in blanket). Deserts could be more varied. Service last time we were there was very good. Sometimes service could be improved. Wait staff seem to get distracted or perhaps not enough staff. Overall we will probably dine here regularly. Can't wait for weather to break so that we can eat outside."

  • "Finally a restaurant on the Main Line serves Cliquot by the glass! Hooray! The bread was amazing, very crisp on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. The butter was creamy with a hint of salt. The salmon tartare was very good but the calamari was crap. It was very soft. It seemed to lack the slightly chewy texture that often comes with calamari. The taste was very bland as well."

  • "I ordered the (rather pricey) steak frites. Rec'd a somewhat tough, tubular, undercooked (I requested medium - was raw in center) 10oz piece of meat, served with soggy orange fries and a large bed of plain greens. Not really mouth watering. My colleagues were equally unimpressed with the food. A shame, because it has a nice atmosphere/bar..."

  • "Rooting for The St. James, but not sure this place can do it. I went just after their grand opening, and thought it was not so good. With the recent changes at St. James to counter the lackluster reviews, we decided to give it another shot. It was better, but still something off. One of the servers (managers?) came up to us and in a roundabout way pressured us to write a positive review. It came off badly, as you can probably imagine. At the end of the day, it seems food passion is lacking there. Does anyone check the food before it goes out to tables? As a highly visible newer restaurant with credible backing, one expects much more. I root for St. James as the mainline is needing some good food places. But I am losing faith.."

  • "From the moment we walked in the door until the time we left we were treated as if we were VIPs. Our waiter was fantastic as was the food. The menu had a great selection of items sure to please all palates. Will definitely go back soon."

  • "I frequent this restaurant often. I usually go to an early dinner when it is not very crowded. However, I went on Saturday at 6:30 PM and was seated in the bar area. The tables along the wall are so close together a person can BARELY fit between them toi be seated. I uderstand they want to get the maximum use of the space BUT this is rediculous. I can't imagine they could not remove one table for two to give a little extra room between the remaining tables. It is impossible to have a personal conversation without the diners next to you hearing everything."

  • "Always consistent. Staff attentive. Great neighborhood place. Great place to meet over business, for a birthday celebration, girls night out, or date night. Appreciate the piece point--you get a "foodie's meal" with quality ingredients--much better than other neighborhood spots with menus that don't quite match up! Whether youre going for small plates, drinks and apps, or more hearty fare, this warm and friendly place is a good bet."

  • "Took my girlfriend here for our first Valentine's Day together, and I must say, it was near perfect. The ambiance was very romantic, and the food was delicious. I'm only 20, but this place fit couples of different ages, and the service was great."

  • "We've eaten at The Saint James twice recently. The first time we loved the chopped salad and my burger and fries; my husband's steak was so-so. The second time we ordered the chopped salad again, and it was lacking many of the chopped vegetables that we had enjoyed before. We both enjoyed our burgers. One of us had regular fries: flabby and not as good as before. On the other hand, the sweet potato fries were probably the best I've ever had! Service was very good."

  • "Nice place. Food was good. Service was friendly and helpful. The waitress knew the menu and was smiling, polite and friendly. Met a blind date here on a week night for a late dinner, so its hard to tell the actual atmosphere. It was quiet, even in the bar area, but that is because there were only a few people there (again weeknight). The date was going well, so we ended up staying a while (we were literally the last people there) but there was no feeling of pressure to hurry up and get out that you would typically get around closing time at most places."

  • "This is a fine neighborhood restaurant but I would not go out of my way to go here. The food is good but its expensive. This would be fine if the food was phenomenal but its just average. We had 1 soup, 2 salads, a flat bread pizza and two beers and it cost $60. The flat bread pizza was marginal. I would not order it again. The bar area was very busy. The dining room was busy as well. It can get very loud when crowded."

  • "From the hostess greeting us to the time we left the service was fantastic - our server (Chris) went above and beyond to make sure our experience was great. When this place opened we had the exact opposite experience - since the "learning pain" period ended - the staff has been excellent - kudos to the training and hiring process. The current hostess (I have met several times now) is extremely friendly. Cannot wait to go back!!"

  • "Unexpected wonderful dining experience in the heart of Suburban Square. We were treated with the highest level of service from the moment we walked in. Food was delicious - especially the truffle flatbread and grilled octopus. Server was attentive and knowledgable and ambience was warm and inviting. We will go out of our way to dine here again!"

  • "When first opened, we tried the St. James twice. Mediocre food, poor service -- decided not to go back. Then heard things had changed (new chef, better menu, more attentive staff, etc.). We went on a SAT night, and wow: it's now a great local destination. Burgers and salads are excellent, menu very diverse, low noise level and EXCELLENT service. If you live in the Western 'burbs, and haven't returned since their bumpy beginning, then go back and plan to be pleasantly surprised."

  • "This is a great find located in the Ardmore shopping center. The interior of the restaurant takes you back to old retro Paris - chic but casual. The beer and wine list has plenty to choose from but the food tops the list. The hot sandwiches are cooked to perfection...crunchy bread when appropriate, melted golden cheese and plentiful. I highly recommend the salads, especially the kale salad. It is thinly shredded, covered with just enough dressing and the additional ingredients make a great combination, especially when you add a great glass of red wine."

  • "Seems like the bartender(s) had trouble with our mimosa and cocktail orders. OJ wasn't real OJ, and peach cocktail tasted like lime (??) Had to send them back three times! At least the young waitress didn't seem to take it personally."

  • "We enjoyed the extra large table, the ability to linger and the relative quietude provided by a less than full house as we opened gifts and took our time over dinner. The food was good although the mussels seemed to have been cooked a little too long and could have benefited from alarger bowl so that the excellent broth was more in play from the beginning. Others enjoyed the salmon and steak frites. We will return."

  • "We had tried St. James when it first opened and were terribly disappointed (as were many others). Since then they have a new chef, a new menu and a new approach to service, so we thought we'd try it again. Much better . The menu is bistro type food and the prices are reasonable. The burgers were big and tasty. The sirloin steak was done well and there was a good choice of appetizers and salads. Overall the feeling of the restaurant was less pretentious and more like a neighborhood restaurant you could easily fall into. The service was attentive and pleasant. We'll definitely go back."

  • "We heard that there was a new chef at this restaurant. It's close to our house so we decided to try it out. Everything was delicious--portobello flatbread, soups, crabcakes, salads and a wonderful homemade pecan pie. The service was very attentive (but a little inexperienced; we had to ask to find out the soup of the day, and the waiter pronounced "Heirloom chicken" as "Airline chicken" which gave us a giggle."

  • "we are there regularly. Snacks, happy hour. We'd heard that the brunch was great, but choices are limited so it is really lunch. I loved he butternut squash soup. Actually, it was a pretty good if unconventional breakfast choice."

  • "Our first visit a few months back we absolutely loved-had the charcuterie and cheese, braised shirt rib and lobster roll. All phenomenal. Lobster roll wasn't on the menu this time - had mussels and crab cakes (and kids' pasta). Mussels ok not great crab cakes still great as were sides of Brussels sprouts. Really good spot but average mussels..."

  • "We have tried Saint James twice since the arrival of the new chef - and it is like a new restaurant. Excellent service and food. We were thrilled to see the turnaround at this attractive place located in the heart of Suburban Square. You have to try the brussel sprouts - outstanding!"

  • "Suburban Square is a fun place -- I took my mom and her friend -- age 77 -- on a Saturday night before their 60th HS reunion. We ordered a little of everything. We shared, except for my mussels -- which were excellent. Not too impressed by the "starters" - could have more variety... The place is so cozy. The Main Line is an area I love to go when visiting my mom who lives in Delco. I now live in State College."

  • "After reading all the terrible reviews, I was a little reluctant to try the restaurant. However, everything, from the time we walked in could not have been better. Service was attentive. Our waiter could not have been more helpful and pacing of the meal was perfect. We enjoyed the cheese platter we had as a starter. The salads, both the Cobb and the beet salad were a little disappointing, but everything else we had was really good. The starters, both the octopus and the crab cakes were great. Only my husband had an entree and he declared his pork chop excellent. We shared one dessert which we all enjoyed."

  • "This was a girls night dinner and first visit St James. Had a great dinner. In a very welcoming environment. Also enjoyed the pumpkin panacotta - so seasonal. The staff seemed rushed but that worked for us since we had a lot to catch up on. This could have been difficult if we didn't have a lot of time for dinner. We will be back again, Would love to take advantage of outdoor seating sometime in Spring"

  • "I have been to st James several times and always enjoyed it. They have now changed the menu and it was lousy. So not worth the over priced expense. Don't think I will be back. Very disappointed because I really enjoyed it before. Hope they bring old menu back plus additional choices."

  • "The food was delicious, the chefs prepared each dish to perfection with obvious attention to detail. On the other hand, service was absolutely awful. On a weeknight where maybe two or three other tables were sat, we waited over twenty minutes to be acknowledged by a server. The manager who originally seated us stopped by about five minutes later to ask if we had been greeted yet. The beer I ordered to pair with our appetizers was forgotten by the server; mistakes happen, but the server did not return to the table after the initial order until halfway through the entree course. The blatant lack of communication by the front of house staff ruined the overall experience."

  • "Dinner was generally very good, especially the appetizers (crabcakes were divine, as was the squash soup). Steak frites, burger, and mussels were excellent. the featured dish (penne, chicken, cherry tomatoes) was nothing special."
