  • "This is hands down the finest restaurant in New Jersey. Dinner last Thursday was simply outstanding. Menu selections are mouthwatering, add to that the nightly specials, and we had a difficult time deciding...we wanted it all. Our final choices: fried zucchini blossoms filled lemon scented ricotta, crispy Asian beef wonton, cocoa dusted scallops over cauliflower puree and oven roasted cauliflower florets, tempura battered soft shell crabs with baby arugula. We ended with the sweet offering of Heather, the new pastry chef, flourless chocolate cake, coconut cream creme brûlée, kettle corn and pink peppercorn ice creams. This was culinary Heaven, Jamie and David have brought the New York experience to NJ."

  • "My husband & I celebrated our anniversary at the Saddle River Inn & we were so happy with our choice. It was our first time there & we immediately loved the ambience & decor. The food was delicious & the setting was so romantic, we sat right by the window overlooking the river. For appetizers we shared the shrimp satay & yellowtail, both were good, I preferred the yellowtail. For our entrees, I had the diver scallop special and it was "melt in your mouth" divine. My husband had the steak special & devoured every bite. We would definitely go back for another special occasion."

  • "Visited the Saddle River in for the first time under new ownership. Got a little nervous as they never called to confirm, nor did Open Table send the auto-generated reminder. But all was in order. While the food was exquisitely prepared, the portions were extremely small. I have dined in New York's finest Michelin rated establishments, so I don't mind spending $$$$ on a great meal. The 4 ounce rib eye was $57! While it was expertly seasoned and seared, it was like an app with about two tablespoons of truffled mashed potatoes and one stalk of broccolini. This is a BYOB and I am wondering if the new ownership is making up the loss of alcohol sales by overcharging for the entrees. The desserts were amazing though. Kudos to the pastry chef."

  • "Had dinner at SRI on july 10 2014. WE do not live in NJ anymore so this was first dinner there since restaurant changed ownership. WE were quite disappointed. From the stiff greeting at the door, to the wine service to the food service, nothing worked well. The food quality was still quite good but we felt the menu was very ordinary for restaurant that was the best in northern New Jersey. Forget the service - started out asking if we wanted white wine and we only brought red - when pouring he spilled wine on table cloth never cleaned it. Waiter described special incorrectly and my wife ended up with appetizer as entrée. Obviously and unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the whole experience."

The food was outstanding - and I think better than before. The choices are more modern and innovative and delicious. The service is excellent as always. It's a very special place."

It's not inexpensive, but it's a great place to eat and enjoy a special meal. We had kobe steak tartare, salads, soft shell crabs, scallops, rib eye steak and scrumptious desserts. Stop thinking about it. Go there."

Our filet was the very best we have ever tasted (we have a lot of experience) and our only mistake was not saving room for dessert! The ambiance and view of the water created an intimate and classy experience we look forward to sharing with friends on our next visit!"

  • "We used to eat here over 25 years ago. We stopped as we felt it was too "stuffy"; jackets and ties. When we heard it was under new ownership, we decided last year to try it again. We were not disappointed. They new owners pay attention to detail. The food is outstanding. As good as the best in NYC! We have been back a number of times since. Highly recommend it"

  • "When we first sat down, 3 different servers inquired about water and which wines to to open. Why 3 different servers and 3 different times?. Then later, when looking for a server, couldn't find one!! Also, why Frank Sinatra and why so loud? I felt like I was in an italian restaurant that wanted everyone to know! Unfortunately, they also seated a group right next to us who oromptly rpoceeded to shout at each other to be heard. NOT very romantic! Fortunately, the food is terrific, so we will go back."

  • "It's a great place. But my last experience was disappointing (maybe an off night for the chef). I started with tuna tartar. Taste was excellent but the middle portion was frozen so that took away. I had the swordfish. The fish and seasoning was fantastic but the crabmeat places on top was cold like they just took it out of the fridge. I was disappointed with the experience but I would give them another chance because in the past it's been fantastic."

  • "From the moment you enter the door until your final goodbyes, you are absolutely pampered by the staff of this wonderful restaurant which is even better under its new management, both in level and quality of service and in the outstanding selection of wonderfully prepared food. The "regular" menu has wonderful selections but the hidden gems are on the specials of the day. Have NEVER had a better lobster roll, nor ever had a better prepared Swordfish entree, both of which were not on the regular menu. Their Maribar filet mignon is still outstanding and one receives a generous portion that is seasoned just perfectly. Don't forget to bring your own wine, and definitely indulge in the pastry chef's delightful desserts."

The only negative is that it is very expensive---with no wine or liquor cost (BYOB) it cost us, with tip, $100 per person."

  • "My wife and I agree - excellent food, stellar service and a really comfortable environment made this a restaurant we'll gladly recommend to friends. Though the menu seemed fairly standard (the usual duck breast, steak and fish options that seem to be on every menu in NJ), a perfectly prepared pork chop with crab vinaigrette and a truly remarkable himachi appetizer (that I can't stop talking about) really showcased the skill of a dynamic chef. Service was top-notch - attentive and informative without being over-bearing. Highly recommend and will be visiting again for certain. "

  • "The entire experience was terrific. There were four of us and we all had different dinners. All four of us were raving about our meals. Personally I had the duck appetizer, filet mignon main course with the orange carrots as a veggie. One of the best meals I can remember eating. And because it's a BYOB, you don't break the bank paying for a fine meal plus the ridiculous restaurant wine prices. Still, it isn't an inexpensive restaurant. Meal fou four plus tip was $360.00. And the few bottles of wine we brought to match the courses added over a hundred more. But this is a special occasion place. Go here and enjoy. Shout out to Anthony our waiter. He was the best. "

  • "Fresh, quality ingredients used . Chef is amazing at combining fresh herbs, spices, and other ingredients to create amazing yet light enhancement to all his dishes. Sirloin cut like butter, as did the chicken. Delicious, gourmet food that still seems fresh and healthy. Nothing was over salted, overdressed or heavy. Food was outstanding. Only negative-Need to install something to absorb the noise."

  • "Found this restaurant on open table, we were looking for a place to have our anniversary dinner and we are so glad we chose The Saddle River Inn! They set us up on the second floor by ourselves and gave us the table in the window overlooking the river. Food was absolutely fantastic, had a chateu brion that night for two was out of this world!!!!! Can't wait to go back for our second meal!"
