We returned to Ryland Inn after many years and new ownership. The restaurant food, ambiance, service were outstanding. Not an inexpensive restaurant, but the experience is worth every penny. Would recommend for special events, as well as an everyday fine food restaurant.

The menu is inspired with local ingredients and service is fantastic. Food choices served all well and were delicious. Save room for unique desserts. It was my wife's birthday, which was acknowledged with a card, mock-tail, designed dessert plate and kitchen tour. As a dinner spot, perfect for special occasions.

First, we had to wait 15 minutes for our 8 PM reservation. Then, after we were seated, it took another 15 minutes for anyone to even come over to the table for a drink order, and then an ETERNITY to get our cocktails. The restaurant is a bit (or several bits) pretentious, but the food, while expensive, was excellent. Possible the best breat of duck I've ever had, and their grilled salmon was equally outstanding. Though the setting of the Inn is gorgeous, the room we were in was very stark. Everything was wood, no drapes or carpet to absorb sound, so it was noisier than it should have been, and it had a "dated" look. The food made it easy to overlook some flaws, though better service would have really elevated the review to outstanding.

We went back for our anniversary -we got married there....it was very nice...not off the charts as it used to be. Waiter was very good and we got a little welcome note for our occasion.. they did a nice job splitting 3 different selections for our girls....my fish entree was dry though....but crudo appetizer was stupendous......will definitely go again...but not quite like the ryland we remember 11 years ago.....

It is with great pleasure that I write this review. I will keep this short. The Sunday brunch at the Ryland Inn is simply wonderful. First off, the atmosphere is just lovely; historic and charming. Our food was excellent with service to match. Please leave room to taste the 2 desserts on the menu. When dessert is this good you only need two!

Overall - just great! However, very slow service on our drinks. The place was not at all busy but we waited a long time to be asked if we wanted another round and then waited even longer for the drinks to come. Not good! Other than that, the food and service were lovely.

We arrived 5 minutes early and were seated immediately. And then waited 10 minutes to be acknowledged. There was a gentleman at a nearby table who did not stop talking. We had the tasting menu with wine pairings, which was unimaginative and similar to the tasting menu we had earlier in the year.

When making the reservation I asked specifically for a private table as some of the deuces are not. When I was contacted to confirm I repeated the request. When we arrived; and it was not that busy we were seated at one of the tables that I had asked not to have. The food was very good but as has been my experience here 5 times now the service is just not that good. A training program that would be commensurate with the prices is in order.

We can't say enough about this place. The atmosphere, food, and service was outstanding. It was on the expensive side, but it was well worth it. From the appetizers to dinner to dessert, we could not find anything we did not like. We would have no problem going back for another very special occasion.

I was looking for a special restaurant, in my home area, that I recently moved to. I had found the Ryland Inn among the "Top 25 NJ Restaurants" list, research provided by njmonthly.com, and just had to see what was being offered. I'll start off with giving credit to whomever wrote the review for njmonthly.com because they were spot on. The courses were well thought out and executed with precision, never wondering what the chef was thinking when pairing ingredients. I won't describe the courses and divulge my opinion of each. I'll just state that the establishment ought to be visited. Pricing is a bit high, but not high for this caliber of artistry. Chef Craig Polignano is sure to delight your senses!

The meal was better then expected (we fine dine all the time). Two items were exceptionally good, if you go you must try them: Beef Tartare (prepared with a magical egg york (cooked to a butterscotch consistency) and the Red Snapper Crudo (one of the best tasting things I have had). We sat inside, however, they have large and warm patio area, with bar and a band was playing.

While the chef is clearly excellent, the quality of the ingredients is amazing. The greens taste like they were picked 30 minutes before they were put on your plate. The pork is probably the finest I have eaten in 66 years. And the honey, which my wife and I don't typically enjoy but which accompanied the cheese, was perfection. We were told the honey comes for the inn's own bee hive, and the flowers they grow for the bees change with the seasons and so the honey taste even changes. Now that is attention to detail and a love of food. Every single bite we took was flawless from the ricotta to the scallops to the gnocchi to the chicken to the pork and finally to the incredible desserts.

WOW—we took my parents to the Ryland for the first time for their 55th wedding anniversary--cannot say enough good things about our experience! Six of us dined in the chef’s room enjoying their seven course tasting menu paired with wine. The food was a work of art, presented beautifully and tasted delicious. Chef and his staff did a phenomenal job creating an enjoyable journey for the palette--without a doubt we will be returning to the Ryland.

This was my first time dining at The Ryland since Chef Craig has taken the helm. There was definitely a vast improvement in presentation, creativity and flavor of food from my previous experiences there. My girlfriend and I both had the tasting menu and were absolutely blown away. Service was fantastic from the Somm down through the service staff. Wine list and food prices are very reasonable given the quality. The ambiance at the Ryland cant be beat and seems like they are really living up to their full potential with the recent changes in the kitchen.

this dinner was a special going away dinner, and we were seated at the chef's table which is in a wonderful little room off the kitchen. Chef Polignano really took care of us with with a phenomenal tasting menu. We enjoyed two fabulous bottles of wine, and were so excited to find out that Tuesday is half price bottle day! From the amuse, which was a sparklingly fresh raw fluke in ponzu, to the trio of remastered American classics (reuben, pig in a blanket, and buffalo wings), to the wonderful heirloom tomato salad, each course dazzled and delighted. Thank you Ryland!!

We'd been to the old Ryland Inn and always loved but this was our first time back since the remodel. What a lovely lovely place! Beautiful restaurant, very delicious food, but the service lacked just a little bit. For instance, the first server with a plate of rolls walked right past us but then served the table right next to us. 2 minutes later another person showed up with a plate of rolls but reached over us to serve them. So easy to walk to other side of table but you don't reach across one person to get to next one! Just little things but if a restaurant in the middle of nowhere NJ can charge a minimum of $100pp, it's the little things that make a BIG difference!

Last minute booking, trying to find a different restaurant. My husband and I are foodies and love to dine at different restaurants. The bar was OK. We requested to seat outside, there are just a few tables outside with no ambiance. Our server took forever to welcome us, we had to ask the manager for our menus and after asking 2 waitresses for it we finally got them. We had the squash risotto, which had no taste and my husband had the chicken, which was just average. We never asked for spring water, but were charged for it. When I mentioned it to the manager, he didn't seem to care. I don't mind paying for something I ordered, but it's the principle of just charging us. We took the water we never order when we left, since we had to pay for.

Finally went with friends during the week and we all were so disappointed. Waiter was so surly, thought he was doing a favor by serving us. Any request was reacted upon with hesitation. An Amuse was served that consisted of one quarter inch dice beets, 3 to be exact and a hazelnut. Silly. I think the wait staff heard our disbelief and we were brought a complimentary taste of tomato bisque. Wonderful, the best part of the dinner. Our salads were served and I asked for no shallots or onions. Atop my salad were shallots, and dressed in a shallot dressing? Main course was luke warm and over salted, my husbands cold. Waiter never asked how were things till we were ready to leave. My husband always tips 20%, not this time. Not worth the money.

The staters and mid course was excellent , but entrees were disappointing . Service was average . We had no Room for dessert and the waiter insisted and pressured us into ordering something so that a birthday candle could be placed for our special occasion . They could have placed a candle in a small pastry on the house at that Point. When we dine at that price we expect a full close to perfect experience.

Nan had special needs due to her condition and this was expertly handled by the staff with no problem or question. We found the wait staff friendly and attentive, the food was excellent and well-presented, and the meal was neither rushed nor delayed. We celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary at The Ryland Inn and were not disappointed. I was not able to book early enough to get a table at Per Se in NYC, and am now glad. Although that restaurant if great, our experience was outstanding at the Ryland Inn. We were seated immediately in a beautifully appointed room. Service was impeccable. The wine list excellent. The wine pairing with each course of the tasting menu was perfect. Will back before the 40th. Still cannot believe 39 years, and she is more beautiful each day! Thank you Ryland Inn.

This was our third time there recently and the first time under the helm of the new chef. We loved the old chef, and the new one does not miss a beat. One of the best food experiences in NJ for sure. The first two times the service wasn't up to the quality of the food, but I have to give credit to our waiter this time, who was very on top of the menu, our preferences and had great suggestions. Every dish was great, but standouts included the grilled squid, snapper crudo, summer bean salad, and halibut. We already look forward to returning.

A perfect Sunday dinner! The food was brilliant: creative AND tasty:) My friends and I had the 7-course tasting menu, which became 9 courses including the complimentary amuse bouche of asparagus foam over uni custard (an odd combination that worked amazingly well) and a palate cleanser of refreshing yuzu sorbet topped with a single perfect raspberry. Each course was correctly sized and paced, so that we left feeling well satisfied but not stuffed. It's hard to pick a favorite from such choices as oyster with caviar, or guinea hen roulade, but the butter poached lobster was absolute heaven. Impeccable service. A tray of original petit fours made a delicious finale. You could easily pay twice as much for less value in Manhattan.
