Diner Reviews
  • "We had the Ahi Tuna salad, pasta and chocolate mousse. Ahi tuna was fresh but the salad was tasteless and so was the oil based pasta. The chocolate mousse was great. I'd definitely recommend it."

  • "We so enjoyed our lunch! The scenry, wonderful waitress and the food was just wonderful. Loved the popovers, strawberry butter and broth to start, healthy salads and chocolate moose was super! From start to finish...it was perfect!"

  • "If your shopping downtown at Union Square and are loooking for a elegant and great eatery for lunch this is the place!!! The food, service, and ambience are perfect! Definitely a five star dining experience you can't miss!!!"

  • "Family and friends always enjoy the spectacular venue of Neiman Marcus' Rotunda. The overhead stained glass ceiling and gold-guilt columns are apparently part of the original building. The food is delicious--wonderful menu, well presented and served. The complimentary chicken broth and hot popover are part of the gracious dining experience. With dozens of visits, I have never been disappointed."

  • "From the moment that you arrive to the Host Station until you complete your meal....the attention to detail, service and the food continues to be excellent. The bus person was also exceptional - and because the waiter was busy, he really made it all run smoothly.....Thank you, thank you!"

  • "Recently had this sandwich on their special menu. It was served with a small bowl of roasted tomato soup. And it was really, really good. Somehow had room for pineapple upside down cake for dessert, also yummy. Our server, Ralph, was delightful."

  • "The Rotunda is a ladies-who-lunch place with the requisite characters - including a house model or two doing a fashion walk-around - but without the attitude. The service is consistent - professional and efficient but warm. The food stands up to the elegant ambience and the view to Union Square, and the consomme and pop-overs with strawberry butter are worth the visit."

  • "Going to the Rotunda at Neiman Marcus brings me back to the grand old days when my mom would dress me up with a pink matching hat and coat and white gloves to go downtown to shop and have lunch at the Emporium's or Blum's next to Macy's. I took my daughter this time and she had a delicious lobster sandwich topped with a few potato chips. I had perfectly seared chunks of tuna seafood salad topped with seaweed. We both loved the chicken consomme and popovers. Talk about nostalgia, they offered a pineapple upside down cake for dessert...how great was that? And a nice model was walking around the dining area showing off designer gowns...was a great lunch place."

  • "Absolutely loved the Rotunda. (Would love to go back a little later in the year when the giant Christmas Tree is up.) The service was wonderful and the food was the best I have had in a long time. Their famous chicken salad was magnificent. I could have made a meal on their lushous little popovers."

  • "I love this place! It's elegant, old-school San Francisco, just on the verge of being a blue-haired crowd joint, but not quite. Classics like the crab louie club sandwich give it a little Mad-Men kitch. Great view of Union Square."

  • "The waitress we had made my food taste bitter. She was so unfriendly, unhelpful. Everything we asked was a burden. She also knew it was out first time there and didn't bother to explain anything to us. My girlfriends are vegetarian and the waitress didn't tell us the consumme was chicken. To top it off she scoffed when asked how many tea services was good for 4 people. She said 3, and then proceeded to bring out 3 cups. When asked about the 4th she said it was an extra $5 for another cup? UM HELLO? theres 4 people at this table? she told the chef, and ended bringing us a skimpy tea service. My girls and I had to cut food to share w/each other. I have never felt so needy cutting little tea sandwiches to share Not GOING BACK."

  • "I have been here for 3 times. I would say this place is romantic with the ambience/beautiful dome. Servers were very friendly and patient. They have special rooms for big party, but these rooms do not see the dome and look all plain. I was surprised to see a lazy susan on the table when I had a big party one time in one of the rooms, which reminded me of a dim sum place. Oh one note: From my last visit (with a reservation made on Opentable), the receptionists were not very friendly... I felt unwelcome.. which ruined my bday tea time with my friends.. I dun think I will come back again, with this price for high tea (server was nice tho)"

  • "Excellent service and food. Scenic view depends on where you are seated. Ask for a window table. Great place for lunch downrtown San Francisco. "

  • "The food and service are usually excellent once you get past the pretentious, no eye contact greeters. On my last visit there I made a 3:30 reservation for tea. The website says that they offer tea until 4. I arrived at 3:29 on the dot only to see a sign at reception for the full restaurant that said they would be closing at 3:30 for a private event. I explained that I had made an OpenTable reservation for 3:30. They talked down to me as if I were a child and slowly repeated that the restaurant would be closing and that they would seat me but I would have to order for my guest who had not arrived (at 3:30, the time of our reservation but half an hour before the advertised closing time). The flock of greeters was really rude. We got our tea."

  • "This was my third trip to the Rotunda at Neiman Marcus, and this time in Feb 2014 on a slow non busy morning. We were very disappointed by our visit. The service staff were so lazy and rude. They seemed to be too busy talking with each other than address the needs of their paying customers. My elderly mother likes her hot water with lemon. She was not only treated with disrespect, but felt signs of racism coming from those wait staff. Very disappointing for such a lovely place. "

  • "This is my second time at the Rotunda. The food and service were excellent the first time we were there. That is why we decided to come back. However, this time the experience is different. The bread from sandwiches were a bit dry and the desserts did not look nor taste fresh. Our server kept spilling tea over the table as she pull the tea for us. "

  • "This is a destination for those who like throw back old days dining. Food and service was excellent. Views and unique rotunda are special. However the carpet and furnishings are worn and need a real cleaning."

  • "I was on a business lunch until our order arrived and my crab louie had a hair. Seemed like they just removed it in the kitchen and delivered back to me. The crab was almost spoiled and ended up just eating 2 pop-overs and the some lettuce on my plate. I always order the same thing for years now. The least they could do was take it off my bill, but did not. VERY DISSAPPOINTED."

  • "Food and various complimentary items (e.g. bouillon, popover) were quite delicious, and although my main course (ravioli) did not have the perfect sauce pairing, everything was cooked perfectly. Service was spectacular and extremely attentive. Friendly host and waiters. All the seats have a great view of the skylight mosaic, which makes the ambiance very romantic, soothing and bright. Would definitely visit again, and would highly recommend to visitors to the city. Innumerable levels up from all of the tourist trap restaurants in the Union Sq area."

  • "This was our first time, as we were interested in the history of "ladies who lunch", and we just wanted to do something we didn't normally do. Using the secret elevator entrance is fun and a nice touch, the staff was very kind to us and service was great. You can see how busy our waiter was but he kept character and took good care of us. The food is over priced, at least for what we had, but the food was very good. Nothing extremely unique, but the food was delicious and we all left satisfied. The mixed drinks were somewhat of a let down, but that's not something that everyone will encounter, as not everyone has mixed drinks at lunch. You can tell a lot of people with money to blow hang out there and go shopping after. It's kinda funny. "

  • "Haven't eaten here for a long time. Gracious dining room. Very good food. Fabled popovers, soft-shell crab sandwich, okay drinks and even caviar. Very good service. Old favorites and new tastes. Has transitioned beautifully from its former ladies-who-lunch only atmosphere. Not inexpensive."

  • "Food for tea was just ok. Nothing special or memorable for the prices. I have had better tea other places, I just expected Neiman Marcus to do at least the same if not better. Won't bother going back for tea. Lunch items looked really good. "

  • "Made reservation for a party of 10 to celebrate my neice's graduation. Upon check in the receptionist informed me that our reservation is at 12:45pm, and that they have another reservation booked for 2:45pm for our table. How rude is that? It's not that they accommodated us at the last minute; that I would understand that we needed to be out by a certain time. But the fact the we have a reservation, and they're limiting our dining time is unacceptable and rude. The receptionist then told us that he wasn't rushing us, but wanted to make us aware of it. Then what exactly was his point?! I honestly didn't know what to say to him at that moment because my friends and family were there to celebrate. That totally ruined our celebration experience"

  • "Cleared table before food was done, spilled tea all over the table while pouring and didn't offer a replacement or clean up, long stretches where our waitress was nowhere to be found...really amateur and not what one would expect from NM."
