A word from The Roost at LA Farm
A Santa Monica landmark, LA Farm originally opened in 1984 and quickly became the go-to place for power lunches, romantic dinners and special events. Tucked away on the infamous Lantana property, where movers and shakers from the music, film, and television industry have maintained their residency since the 1980s.

Under new management, we are honored to make this classic, hidden gem our new home.

  • Service too fast, portions too small

Place was relatively empty. Went with a friend to catch up. Service was attentive. Ordered drinks and 2 meals to share. Food and drink arrived simultaneously in about 5 minutes. Several inquiries if we were ready to have our plates removed before we were finished eating. Portions were very small. Guess the black cod was about 3 oz. Also shared a delicata squash which would have been better as an appetizer. We both left hungry and unimpressed. I am curious about their $42 chicken. I have another restaurant.com coupon, so may do take out on that. We loved Stefans at LA Farm. This new incarnation is a disappointment.

We arrived as a very loud early party was winding down; the noise level was far worse than energetic. Even after the group left, the dining room was too noisy for easy conversation. The food was quite good--excellent appetizers and some nice combinations of ingredients in the entrees. Service was both friendly and gracious; but it did slow down as the room got crowded and we waited a long time for our check. Unfortunately the parking experience on the way out completely took away our happy dinner mood. The valet requirement is aggravating enough in a lot with no stacked spaces, but this time someone at the front of the line was arguing with the attendant about paying and about 10 cars (including some office workers) were lined up trying to leave. There didn't seem to be any alternate way out and everyone was steaming by the time the matter was resolved. Even more evidence parking crew ineptitude was when we waited nearly 15 minutes while several parties who came out later got their cars and left. In fact, we were the last couple standing before our car finally showed up. Horrible experience; will likely prevent us from going back.

Under the new management, the food was delicious. Unfortunately, the service was terrible. Despite being told that we were under time constraints, the server was inattentive, unfriendly & service incredibly slow.

This was a great place to meet a friend for a quiet and enjoyable lunch. The atmosphere was perfect for talking and getting caught up. The food was a bit of a disappointment. The salads were almost flavorless and the Ruben was good but the meat was cut a bit thick for a sandwich. I would come back and try other items on the menu. Our server was entertaining and very attentive. Overall it was a good experience.

My friend and I had a splendid time at the beautiful eatery The Roost. The place is open yet cozy with wood, glass and canvas architectural elements.I appreciated the modest size of the menu and the wonderful, inventive choices. Our food was delicious, our waiter was pleasantly attentive. I recommend The Roost and can't wait to go back for another delightful evening.

We had high hopes as we live close by and had not been there since the new chef started. Our appetizer salad was fine... the sweetbreads were deep fried into little nuggets. The fish and chips entree was made with stringy chewy skate and deep fried in huge chunks with literally six small potato discs on the side and some aioli. The waiter graciously did not charge us for the entree but we will not be back. Too bad cause the service was good and the room was lovely.

was incredibly quiet but that made it all the better. We had the place to ourselves with excellent service. The food & wine was fabulous; we shared the arugula salad which was incredibly flavorful. my boyfriend had a smokey Manhattan with the pork belly. I had a glass of NorCal Tempranillo with the duck- so delicious & rich! Every bite was wonderful. We had a great date night.

I've been coming to this restaurant through its many incarnations. It has changed hands again...or perhaps just names. Today, I had the best fish that I've ever had here, followed by a spectacular dessert. Black cod was perfect and the chocolate mousse (it looked like a scoop of ice cream but was dark chocolate mousse) was absolutely delicious. Mitch was the perfect waiter, as always! I'll be back, for sure. Great spot for business lunches.

While I've always liked LA FARM through the years, the renovation changes were very nice and well done. What a difference -- the renovations create a new environment that is more comfortable with warm, rich tones. I look forward to going more often. I love this place for business lunches. Now I love it more. Good job.

The Roost is much better than the former restaurant. The food is delicious, well thought out, and presented beautifully. I had two appetizers. The first was the crispy oysters with smoked gribiche sauce. Perfectly cooked oysters were presented on an amazing smoky sauce. Fantastic! My second appetizer was the beet and avocado salad. The avocadoes were sliced underneath translucent slices of orange beets with a smoked hazelnut center, like beautiful flowers. It was creamy, sweet, salty and delicious. Two friends ordered the whole rotisserie chicken with crispy potatoes. I tasted it, and the chicken was moist and flavorful. Two others had the cod and practically licked their plates. The beignets and the crème brulee were wonderful.

Having been to the last incarnation of LA Farm and having found it disappointing, the few reviews for The Roost were enough for us to give it a try. And glad we did! The indoor/outdoor dining room has been reconfigured to be a warm and welcoming space. The food was excellent - the golden beet and avocado salad made even someone not a fan of beets enjoy it immensely. The duck was perfectly cooked and the scallops delicious. The dark chocolate mousse was great. The wine by glass list covered the gamut of whites and reds and the prices for the wine, as well as the food, were reasonable by LA standards. Will definitely return!

I discovered the LA Farm under its previous ownership last year when I moved to town. It has been sold/new chef and I'm happy to say that it is still a lovely restaurant with great food, a hip feeling/classic flavored menu and wonderful service. I asked as I was leaving if they are doing their Thanksgiving package again this year as my friends and I had a great time there last year. They are doing a Thanksgiving package - family style service at the table (last year it was buffet). I'm looking forward to checking it out again this year.

I am lunch time regular at LA Farm. In fact, my staff calls La Farm my dining room. It is clear that the new management and new chef are looking to find their idea of the right combination. I was surprised by the new menu (after having the old menu for so long), but change is good and I am looking forward to new and wonderful choices on the menu. The menu is changing, but the service team is pretty much the same. Great service, good food, easy parking. Overall a great place for a business lunch in West Los Angeles/Santa Monica on Olympic.
