Diner Reviews
  • "Outstanding food and atmosphere. Lovely experience overall. Can't be beaten."

  • "The beer was chewy and overcooked, not tender. The chicken was dry and the prime rib was dry from sitting under the heat for too long. The soup, vegetables and fish were fresh and tasty but the desert items were 50/50 depending on you wanted. If you go on a busy night the turn over on food at the buffet line should be of higher quality and would assume the quality a lot better from high turn over, going on a slow night the food sits a little too long on the line with no real turn over and isn't very good. Service could have been better, again could have been due to low staff for a slow night."

  • "This was a great night for my girlfriend and I. We were seated quickly and taken care of. The food wasn't anything special, very similar to every other buffet I've been to. If you are looking for a delicious meal, go to Tucanos or Rodizio, you'll spend less and be more satisfied. The view and the piano playing were both magnificent. As we were leaving I was actually able to play the piano for a moment and it added to an amazing start to a fantastic date. Overall, I don't plan on ever going back unless I'm proposing and the only reason I'd choose The Roof is because it would have sentimental value. As a poor college guy, $100 for a less then fantastic meal isn't worth it."

  • "My wife, my parents and I enjoyed the food at this restaurant, it was simply delicious, the view from the window to the Temple was also so incredible. It was a pleasant experience."

  • "After 36 years, my wife said this is the best place we have ever been to eat. We will save our pennies to return next year."

  • "The view, atmosphere, and piano player were the best things about this restaraunt. We asked for a table with a view of the temple, but the window shades were down for most of the meal so we couldn't even enjoy the view (which was the point in choosing this restaraunt in the first place). The food wasn't good at all. It was displayed nicely, but the only thing that tasted good was the cut up fruit. Even our rolls were old and dry. Disappointing. There is another restaraunt up the street at the Gateway (La Jolla Groves) that we ate at earlier in the day that was just as romantic, had phenomenal food, and with appetizers still cost less than half of what we paid at the roof. We will never return to The Roof, it was a waste of money."

  • "The view of the salt lake temple is amazing. The food is good but it is a very pricey restaurant- you are paying for the views!"

  • "kind staff, exelent food. The best place to go and take a break and relax while enjoying amazing food!"

  • "Excellent food, excellent service, wonderful atmosphere."

  • "The service at this restaurant was excellent and staff were very professional and friendly. The view however was disappointing. We had the misfortune of having a view of the couple next to us. I understand not everyone can be accommodated to sit next to the windows but at the very least the other tables should be staggered. We splurged to pay for such a nice dinner next to the temple where we were married, and without any view I honestly would have preferred to dine elsewhere for much less cost."

  • "Wonderful ambience, but outrageously overpriced! We are regular customers and would love to continue patronizing The Roof, however, you're pricing many locals out, who will simple find other equally nice establishments with moderate prices. Sad."
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "What you're paying for is the scenery and view, not the food. The food is ok, but you could spend 1/2 the price somewhere else and get better food."

  • "This restuarant is fancy, has great food and service, but is overpriced in my opinion"

  • "Nice restaurant, beautiful view, and the food was good. Best rolls ever!!!! A bit expensive for the variety of food, bit overall a very nice experience."

  • "A friend recommended The Roof Restaurant for the view. It is outstanding! The food is all buffet - which we did not realize but we were fine with. The salad and dessert selections were great. Hot vegetable selections was okay. Prime rib was very good. We would definitely return to this restaurant."

  • "No better restaurant view in the city. Food was great. Three of us in SLC on business and took recommendation to have dinner at the Roof. Great total experience. If in SLC it is a must do...you'll be glad you did."

  • "This was our first time dining at The Roof. It was our anniversary . It helped make the evening special. The food, service, location, and view were wonderful and parking was simple."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner at the Roof. The food was delicious! The service was great! They had reserved a great table for us. The view was terrific! We celebrated Father's Day and my husband's birthday as well. The piano music always adds to the mood. I highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions."

  • "View is the ONLY reason to go. Overpriced and food is below par. So many other great restaurants in Salt Lake. People complain for years about value but nothing is done because they have best view and location which if not for view they would not survive."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "I have been coming here for years. In the last several years the cost has gone up and up, and the quality has gone down. Some of the desserts look like they were bought and defrosted. They don't even have chocolate covered strawberries any more, which were a hit with my kids. The salad bar is very poor with not much of a selection, and the nice hors d ouevres they used to have on the salad bar are gone. For one of the entrees they had salmon cakes, which really, i can make better at home. Definitely not top quality. In a nut shell I'd say its slightly better than chuck-a-rama and 4x the price. The owners really need to re-think the direction it is going, the nice ambience can only go so far when the food is poor."

  • "My husband and I had the most amazing dinner together. We had the best table in the restaurant, the pianist was incredible, the food was delicious, and the overall experience was irreplaceable. I thought the food was good, although not necessarily spectacular. I felt that I paid for the experience more-so than the food. The dessert bar was incredible, but I would prefer more options on the salad bar."

  • "The food was good but not amazing for the price. The desserts were good. The customer service was great! For us the cost was worth it for the experience. It was a nice get away above the city."

  • "The atmosphere was conducive to conversation, food was great, piano playing was very nice, service was great and best time to visit for a view is Christmastime. If you like desserts best, start with them because there are so many yummy things to enjoy!"

  • "In honor of our wedding, my wife and I visited The Roof and were amazed by how fantastic the service and food was. We both found ourselves commenting on how great food we don't typically enjoy was, as well as going back for seconds, thirds, and even fourths. Our waiter was a charming young man, about to set out on a mission, and he was fantastic with communicating, as well as always treating us as royalty. He even went so far as to bring us out a congratulatory placard. The ambiance was breathtaking, but then again, I was with the woman of my dreams, so life was fantastic regardless. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking to impress, or celebrate with a special someone."

  • "The food at The Roof was excellent, we were especially impressed, however with the service. The waiters were very prompt to clear away old dishes and our water glasses were never empty!"

  • "I took my fiancé here the night I was going to give her a ring. The music in the background was wonderful and the view beautiful. Our waiter gave good service but nothing over the top. What really surprised me was the bill at the end of the night. I ended up paying $100 tip included. The food was good but not that good. It is my fault for not better researching the restaurant prices, But I could never have imagined the price for our meal could go over 60. I'm glad that we got the opportunity to eat at The Roof but I don't plan on ever doing it again. I'd prefer eating at golden coral or some other buffet. Where I can get more bang for my buck."

  • "My wife, family and I celebrated the high school graduation of my oldest daughter by having dinner together at one of our favorite restaurants. Everything was spectacular, the food, the service, the music, it was a night that my daughter will not soon forget... and our corner table at the window was Awesome!!!! Thank you for a most terrific and memorable evening!"

  • "Nice reception, fantastic salad assortment, freshness, & presentation. Is there such a thing as well done prime rib? Or beef medallions? All in all quite good if you didn't eat the beef jerky, I quite enjoyed the experience, (salads and desserts) but it might have just been the company I was with. Not polished but they were sure trying."

  • "The Roof is the "special" place for our family to meet for special occasions. We have celebrated New Years Eve there, had missionary farewell dinners there, and celebrated birthdays and anniversaries there. This year was my parents 66 Wedding Anniversary. We love being able to reserve the round room (as we call it) you call it the library. We can visit and all hear each other converse. There are not many quiet restaurants left around anymore. We love 'THE ROOF' - and your servers are so polished, kind and refined! LOVE IT!"

  • "I went here with my sister on her birthday. The service was great; it was early on a weeknight, so we got very personal attention from everyone (maybe it's always like that, but either way it was nice)! There was a good variety of foods and most everything we tried was delicious, especially the new bread pudding with caramel sauce. Yum! Also, our waitress was very cute - she brought some confetti by to sprinkle on the table next to the 'Happy Birthday' sign to "add to the party". It was a great overall experience, but still WAY too pricey to do more often (around $40 per person)."

  • "We came to celebrate my husbands 40th birthday and loved it! In the reservation we requested a temple view and had the perfect setting. It was also sweet to have a birthday card waiting at the table for him! The food was delicious, and the service was quick and friendly. It was a memorable evening. Thank you!"

  • "My boyfriend and I were amazed about the service and the food. The environment was wonderful and everyone was very nice. Our waiter Daniel was very nice to ask us if it was our first time dining at The Roof Restaurant. After we told him that it was our first time, he was very kind to tell us about the different types of beverages and also what foods were available. Everything was just an amazing experience. "

  • "We felt like royalty and the food was delicious. I would recommend The Roof to all my friends. I appreciate how the food was presented, cooked and displayed. Tastefully presented and tasteful in our mouths. Excellent!"

  • "Plan ahead, get your reservations in early. Get a table by the window to allow you to see the amazing vista and the Temple just below you. Plan on taking some time so that you can enjoy the entire experience. The Salad bar is really good, but control your self or you will over eat there and have limited space inside to enjoy the entrees and the amazing array of deserts. It is really nice if you can be reasonably close to the piano, as the music really adds to the ambiance. They continually change the entrees and it is good to try a little of all the deserts, but you are not going to do it in one evening, so plan on going back a few times to get all the experience. This is our favorite pace to dine. David "
