Diner Reviews
  • "Had to wait 15 minutes past our 7:00 reservation so they could seat a tour group that actually arrived after us. The group was loud. We had choosen to come for our 47th anniversary and the Ambience for the occasion was not what we had planned for."

  • "Good food, great service, wonderful atmosphere. Personal attention numerous times during the evening. always like to return when I have the opportunity."

  • "The idea of spending big money for a buffet is odd to be but wow does it work. We were 20 minutes earlier than our reservation and they seated us like they had been waiting for us and like we were the most important people in the world. Food was fabulous. Even the french onion soup! Really great deserts. The view was great although we were there well before sun down and I think it would be even better for sundown or after dark."

  • "This was my first visit to The Roof, we were celebrating our tenth anniversary. I have no complaints about the food or the service, which were both good in and of themselves; but both were completely underwhelming for the price. I've spent $100 on dinner for two plenty of times, but have rarely spent that much with so much ambivalence about the experience. I doubt I'll return, and would probably encourage others to spend their money elsewhere."

  • "I don't think it was worth the price. The food was good but I would have been just as happy with a cheese steak from down the street. It was our anniversary I told them before hand they didn't do anything to make it special. Our waitress had a sour face for the majority of the time. Desserts were great."

  • "We tried the 'Fine Dining' buffet at the roof restaurant. Admittedly we were a bit wary about the buffet aspect of it, but it was well organized and there was a good selection. The presentation of the salad and seafood section was outstanding. There were two carvery options and several entrees. We particularly liked the pork loin done in a raspberry soy sauce. There was fresh fruit, two types of soup and a delicious dessert section. While we were eating, we were entertained by an excellent pianist. No alcohol, of course, but we enjoyed drinks from the speciality beverage menu. The service was excellent, professional and friendly. And the views - overlooking the Temple on one side and the Capitol building on the other - gorgeous."

  • "We eat here about twice a year, once at Christmas time and once for a special family event. It has helped us create memories that will last a lifetime. The food is excellent and the view is inspiring. Dining while viewing the Christmas lights at Temple Square is a magical experience."

  • "My girlfriend and I just wanted to have a nice evening in Salt Lake. The Roof provided a wonderful start to the evening with great food, amiable service, and a lovely view of Temple Square."

  • "On the 10th floor, overlooking the LDS Temple. Great piano music and really wonderful service. It is high end buffet style dining, the food is very good. I would say a little overpriced if it wasn't for the great view, it makes it worth every penny. We were a group of 8 with one 3 year old child and there was something for all. Definitely check this place out."

  • "My wife, my parents and I enjoyed the food at this restaurant, it was simply delicious, the view from the window to the Temple was also so incredible. It was a pleasant experience."

  • "The beer was chewy and overcooked, not tender. The chicken was dry and the prime rib was dry from sitting under the heat for too long. The soup, vegetables and fish were fresh and tasty but the desert items were 50/50 depending on you wanted. If you go on a busy night the turn over on food at the buffet line should be of higher quality and would assume the quality a lot better from high turn over, going on a slow night the food sits a little too long on the line with no real turn over and isn't very good. Service could have been better, again could have been due to low staff for a slow night."

  • "This was a great night for my girlfriend and I. We were seated quickly and taken care of. The food wasn't anything special, very similar to every other buffet I've been to. If you are looking for a delicious meal, go to Tucanos or Rodizio, you'll spend less and be more satisfied. The view and the piano playing were both magnificent. As we were leaving I was actually able to play the piano for a moment and it added to an amazing start to a fantastic date. Overall, I don't plan on ever going back unless I'm proposing and the only reason I'd choose The Roof is because it would have sentimental value. As a poor college guy, $100 for a less then fantastic meal isn't worth it."

  • "The view, atmosphere, and piano player were the best things about this restaraunt. We asked for a table with a view of the temple, but the window shades were down for most of the meal so we couldn't even enjoy the view (which was the point in choosing this restaraunt in the first place). The food wasn't good at all. It was displayed nicely, but the only thing that tasted good was the cut up fruit. Even our rolls were old and dry. Disappointing. There is another restaraunt up the street at the Gateway (La Jolla Groves) that we ate at earlier in the day that was just as romantic, had phenomenal food, and with appetizers still cost less than half of what we paid at the roof. We will never return to The Roof, it was a waste of money."

  • "The service at this restaurant was excellent and staff were very professional and friendly. The view however was disappointing. We had the misfortune of having a view of the couple next to us. I understand not everyone can be accommodated to sit next to the windows but at the very least the other tables should be staggered. We splurged to pay for such a nice dinner next to the temple where we were married, and without any view I honestly would have preferred to dine elsewhere for much less cost."

  • "The view of the salt lake temple is amazing. The food is good but it is a very pricey restaurant- you are paying for the views!"

  • "Wonderful ambience, but outrageously overpriced! We are regular customers and would love to continue patronizing The Roof, however, you're pricing many locals out, who will simple find other equally nice establishments with moderate prices. Sad."

  • "A friend recommended The Roof Restaurant for the view. It is outstanding! The food is all buffet - which we did not realize but we were fine with. The salad and dessert selections were great. Hot vegetable selections was okay. Prime rib was very good. We would definitely return to this restaurant."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "What you're paying for is the scenery and view, not the food. The food is ok, but you could spend 1/2 the price somewhere else and get better food."

  • "No better restaurant view in the city. Food was great. Three of us in SLC on business and took recommendation to have dinner at the Roof. Great total experience. If in SLC it is a must do...you'll be glad you did."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner at the Roof. The food was delicious! The service was great! They had reserved a great table for us. The view was terrific! We celebrated Father's Day and my husband's birthday as well. The piano music always adds to the mood. I highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions."

  • "View is the ONLY reason to go. Overpriced and food is below par. So many other great restaurants in Salt Lake. People complain for years about value but nothing is done because they have best view and location which if not for view they would not survive."

  • "My husband and I had the most amazing dinner together. We had the best table in the restaurant, the pianist was incredible, the food was delicious, and the overall experience was irreplaceable. I thought the food was good, although not necessarily spectacular. I felt that I paid for the experience more-so than the food. The dessert bar was incredible, but I would prefer more options on the salad bar."

  • "I have been coming here for years. In the last several years the cost has gone up and up, and the quality has gone down. Some of the desserts look like they were bought and defrosted. They don't even have chocolate covered strawberries any more, which were a hit with my kids. The salad bar is very poor with not much of a selection, and the nice hors d ouevres they used to have on the salad bar are gone. For one of the entrees they had salmon cakes, which really, i can make better at home. Definitely not top quality. In a nut shell I'd say its slightly better than chuck-a-rama and 4x the price. The owners really need to re-think the direction it is going, the nice ambience can only go so far when the food is poor."

  • "In honor of our wedding, my wife and I visited The Roof and were amazed by how fantastic the service and food was. We both found ourselves commenting on how great food we don't typically enjoy was, as well as going back for seconds, thirds, and even fourths. Our waiter was a charming young man, about to set out on a mission, and he was fantastic with communicating, as well as always treating us as royalty. He even went so far as to bring us out a congratulatory placard. The ambiance was breathtaking, but then again, I was with the woman of my dreams, so life was fantastic regardless. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking to impress, or celebrate with a special someone."

  • "The atmosphere was conducive to conversation, food was great, piano playing was very nice, service was great and best time to visit for a view is Christmastime. If you like desserts best, start with them because there are so many yummy things to enjoy!"

  • "I took my fiancé here the night I was going to give her a ring. The music in the background was wonderful and the view beautiful. Our waiter gave good service but nothing over the top. What really surprised me was the bill at the end of the night. I ended up paying $100 tip included. The food was good but not that good. It is my fault for not better researching the restaurant prices, But I could never have imagined the price for our meal could go over 60. I'm glad that we got the opportunity to eat at The Roof but I don't plan on ever doing it again. I'd prefer eating at golden coral or some other buffet. Where I can get more bang for my buck."

  • "My wife, family and I celebrated the high school graduation of my oldest daughter by having dinner together at one of our favorite restaurants. Everything was spectacular, the food, the service, the music, it was a night that my daughter will not soon forget... and our corner table at the window was Awesome!!!! Thank you for a most terrific and memorable evening!"

  • "Nice reception, fantastic salad assortment, freshness, & presentation. Is there such a thing as well done prime rib? Or beef medallions? All in all quite good if you didn't eat the beef jerky, I quite enjoyed the experience, (salads and desserts) but it might have just been the company I was with. Not polished but they were sure trying."

  • "I went here with my sister on her birthday. The service was great; it was early on a weeknight, so we got very personal attention from everyone (maybe it's always like that, but either way it was nice)! There was a good variety of foods and most everything we tried was delicious, especially the new bread pudding with caramel sauce. Yum! Also, our waitress was very cute - she brought some confetti by to sprinkle on the table next to the 'Happy Birthday' sign to "add to the party". It was a great overall experience, but still WAY too pricey to do more often (around $40 per person)."
