  • "Old ambience, everything old..need to revamp. food tasted like it was frozen. staff was nice but not as polished."

  • "Brought my mom here for afternoon tea for her birthday. We loved the extensive tea selection, sunny view from our window side table, and excellent friendly service! Had the most delicious warm scones with devonshire cream and lots of other tasty treats."

  • "Great spot for special occasions. Nite time dining with live music makes for a nice intimate dining spot. Very friendly service, waiter well informed about selection wines. Food quality was very good and the price for their daily specials were quite reasonable. The desserts hit the spot as a finale to the dinner. Pity the restaurant will be closing later this year and will be moving back down to the main floor of the hotel."

  • "The food was great and unique. The server was great and attentive. We felt bad that we had to interrupt the two at the host desk when we arrived but we left without interrupting their conversation."

  • "Live music, fantastic view of the city, inspired cocktails, very attentive service altogether made a memorable evening."

  • "I ask for coffee when the server was at our table but didn't come. At least two attempt to flag him down for my coffee and still just walk off no coffee. 3rd time he came over ask if we want more ice tea, tea or coffee then finally I get my coffee and find out it was at his working table. He would only ask for what kind of tea does not ask for selection of food. Just assume that everyone wants the same portion or type of food. I would not recommend going again for this type of service with over $50 per person."

  • "While the food and service were great, hardly anyone there. The dining room is NOT! It's like someone forgot to finish decorating. Honestly the look and feel is NOT what the Roof at the Hotel Vancouver should look like or for that matter a Fairmont hotel! Not impressed"

  • "While the food and service were excellent the wine list was surprisingly short. Really enjoyed the live music. Would go again but not for the views. Nothing to see but other buildings."

  • "Dining at the Roof Top took me back 30 years ago, when it was open for fine dinner & dancing. It was nice to visit those memories again & bring my adult children along for the memories on Father's Day weekend. Thank you"

  • "Appetizers were perfect, we ordered mussels and beef carpaccio. We are a group of four, we all ordered steak steak. The other couple ordered medium rare and it was great. My hubby ordered medium well and mine was medium, unfortunately we got ours well done :("

  • "Thought maybe with recent renovation, which by the way seems tacky, gone is most of the charm of the old Vancouver Hotel. And the tea sandwiches were few and unimaginative, the bread not fresh, I think they over do the sweets. Far too expensive as well for what was presented."

  • "Wonderful server. Good and interesting food. Had a fun time."

  • "Four of us gathered to celebrate a birthday on a Sunday evening. The "Birthday Girl" was thrilled with the evening. We had a quiet table by the window. Our server was outstanding (sorry don't know her name). She was there when needed but not too much. I asked if sangria was on the menu and when she found it wasn't she had one made for me specially. I thought the main courses were good but not outstanding. We were brought a lovely little complimentary birthday cake with candles just big enough for a taste for everybody. There was no problem with my request for a rather complicated bill calculation. This is a great venue for a Special Occasion."

  • "I went for afternoon tea and it was a very enjoyable experience. Our waitress was very attentive and checked up on us frequently. When we were undecided about which tea to choose, she made us an additional pot of tea at no extra charge. The food was typical afternoon tea food, but the service and ambience made the overall experience wonderful. Also, the new location provides a terrific view of the city."

  • "Food was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. It is genuinely too bad that this beautiful dining space will not be available for regular dining after November."

  • "Food and service very good but the room felt like a dining room in a nursing home. VERY bright lighting with no partitions between tables. Everybody knew everybody's business. "

  • "Enjoyed the good service from our server, being attentive. We went at 1pm, when there were only 4 tables including ours. We were seated at the small table behind a pole, blocking the view which should be novelty of "The Roof". We asked if we can be seated closer to window, but were told that the section is only for high tea charged at $49 per person. Understand if the restaurant is full, but it was very empty. Recommend them to be more flexible on their seating arrangement during down times. Food was okay, but when you charged coffee at $6, I would be expecting premium quality. Unfortunately, the quality was lesser than McDonald's coffee. Be careful when you expect to see the view from the roof, when you may be seated behind a pole!"

  • "Thrilled that the dining room open again - enjoyed our bday lunch- Cindy was most helpful and attentive - thank you Enjoyed the selection of courses -my mushroom topped with a poached egg was delicious not to mention the lovely choc. Ganache as the birthday cake Wine was great as well."

  • "It was the most beautiful setting high above the city. The service and food were outstanding. We both had great wine and our salad topped with fresh salmon which was served by friendly staff was the perfect lunch for two gals. We were also so surprised at how affordable it was. We'd go back in a minute."

  • "We decided to try out the Roof for high tea after a wonderful experience at the Empress, we were not disappointed. The views were fantastic from this spot high above the city. The tea came from a wonderful selection and, as hoped, the scones and pastries were delicious."

  • "Great view, but uninspired interior design. Slow service. Space could have been amazing, but it just looks like a Marriott lobby. A real failed chance by he Fairmont. "

  • "I wanted to celebrate our 2nd anniversary at The Roof, as I thought it must be a super experience with stunning views... It was the biggest disappointment I ever had in my life. Well this reopening is like going back to the seventies, a poorly furnished restaurant and extremely bad lit, the bar was even more disappointing as the very inviting cocktail list seemed that is was a bit going the right way, well the cocktails we had, tasted like there where days before pre-mixed out of a container. In a City where food quality and ambience is extremely important, this is a complete miss."

  • "This was my first time doing Afternoon Tea on The Roof and I was so impressed! Our server, Serge, made all the difference, but the tea, the food, and just the experience was phenomenal! I will certainly be coming back with another friend at some point! :D"

  • "so they marketed this as a roof top dining and as you can imagine, it would provide a view with indoor-outdoor space. instead, it was simply a makeshift large empty room with several tables facing large windows looking into an office building on West Georgia. The menu was sad, with your basic standards that was something out of the 70's. The price was very expensive for the quality of food provided. My porterhouse steak was tough and flavors blend. It was clearly one of the worse meals I have ever had. Skip it and stop at Milestones. The hotel tries to market itself as a new era of elegance. Whoever is in charge of this needs to open their eyes to see where dining is at now. "

  • "I had the Prime Rib. The meat was fabulous but the Yorkshire was cold and rubbery; garlic mash potatoes and baby carrots boring and luke warm. I had high hopes for the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver but if this is any indication of their great hotel dining, then that along with the Market Place report on the cleanliness of the rooms would cross off Fairmont hotels for me,"

  • "I have been to the afternoon tea many times. At some point the price has gone up. For two of us it was $100 plus tax and gratuity; really??? I appreciate the little details and the service but there is no way that it is worth that price. I will not go back unless I get a half price groupon. Unfortunately that is not a category to rate so I give it 4 stars because the food is tasty and when they are not renovating, the ambiance is great. If I had the opportunity to rate the value of the food I would give it just 2 stars"

  • "The Roof at Hotel Vancouver has a storied history. My parents spoke of going there when they were young. Unfortunately it is stuck in a time that is long past. It is not an indoor / outdoor experience but rather a very sterile dining room with a lot of very old people. The food was not even remotely good. I ordered a ceasar salad that was so soggy & limp I sent it back. The service afterward noteably went south and I was clearly paying a price for my complaint (which I assure I was not rude about it) the main courses took a very long time and were below average. It took whopping 25 minutes to actually receive our bill after requesting it. I will never return here. It is sad & archaic establishment that has lost it's way"

  • "took my friend for her birthday lunch, lovely table by the window and wonderful service from our server. You could tell she was 'old school', she has worked there for 35 some odd years....it shows, she added to the experience. Lunch was pricey, but hey for a special occasion I won't complain. Food was really tasty. We both had the French onion soup, my friend had the salmon & shrimp sandwich, I had the hamburger....yes, the burger was $21.00 but so worth it....bacon, cheese, mushrooms all there... We lingered over coffee and a little birthday cake our server ordered for us (and we where not charged for), that was a nice little touch. I will definitely go back and recommend you check it out, it's only opened till November apparently."

  • "The Roof could once again be the iconic setting that is once was, but unfortunately it isn't. Fairmont Hotels have done a very cheap fix-up and it shows. Even using the worn furniture from the old restaurant downstairs. Food and service was good, but that is about it. "

  • "I took my daughter and 5 of her friends for Afternoon Tea for her 10th birthday. The service was superb and the girls had a wonderful time. "

  • "Each piece of the food was too small, and the quantity of food was also scanty, especially for an afternoon tea costing 49. The menu especially mentions CAVIAR of the finger sandwich- Cold Smoked Wild Salmon, Organic Egg Salad Russian Rye, Caviar- but the caviar was a negligible amount. Fruit Tartlet, and Signature Tea Truffle were delicious, but again measly amount, especially the chocolate. Chocolate Vienetta couldn't be more ordinary. Overall, the quantity and size of food was too ridiculous to cost 49 per person. "

  • "Went with my gf for her birthday for some afternoon tea. I told them before hand it was her birthday can we get a cake. And they said sure. When I got there. The service was slow and horrible took 10 mins to get water ( the place was dead). And as far as the cake. We got nothing.... Surprised was ruined. They charge $50 per person for adults don't mind paying the price but I want my money worth and I didn't get that. Wouldn't go there again "

  • "The very good - the FOOD! Great portion size, lovely presentation, amazing tenderloin! Our entrees came with 4 different sauces, so we got to try an assortment of flavors. The tart for dessert was equally as delicious. The disappointing - I am in love with stories of yesteryear, and some of my favorites are the ones my Grandmother told me about her times at The Roof in the 50's, so when I heard it was re-opening, I was SO EXCITED to taste the experience for myself! To my disappointment, there was no dance floor, no dress code, a big screen tv near the bar playing the hockey game, people engaged in their cell phones... SIGH. Toto... we're not in the 1950's anymore! So in regards to the atmosphere, personally, it was a let-down. "
