Diner Reviews
  • "Who would ever expect Manhattan ambience in riverhead"
    Dined on 4/10/2014
  • "Definitely adds some trendiness to downtown Riverhead. We tried the fried olives as a snack - highly recommended with a delicious lemon aioli dipping sauce. For appetizers we had the grilled romaine salad and the crab & shrimp fritters. Having greens that had been lightly charred was different, but fun. My fiancée loved the fritters - she was still talking about them the next day. For the main course I had the cavatelli pasta. Very good. Don't be deceived but what looks like a very small portion. The real highlight for me was the cocktails. I had the Honey Badger. Sweet enough to be refreshing, strong enough to be worth the $12. No trip to The Riverhead Project is complete without treating yourself to a cocktail."

  • "The food is in general quite good, but the prices are NYC-level and the execution is not consistently at that level. Duck and lobster were excellent, but the tuna did not taste as fresh as it should have been. Also there's indication of boredom and unusual ingredients and combinations done for variety's sake."

  • "I looked forward to eating here for close to a year based on my husbands raves about a grilled fish sandwich he had for lunch. If you choose to dine here you must get the fried olives. I know it sounds salty but it is not. The lemon zest in the aioli adds perfect balance. The service was very good & the staff were friendly. I ordered the cowboy ribeye & was totally disappointed. The steak was thin, overcooked, & covered in a sauce that did nothing to enhance the flavor. It was accompanied by an even less desirable mush of potatoe, pepper & zucchini. Not what I would expect for a $42 steak. It was not aged or prime."

  • "Don't be put off by the blocky and rather ugly bank building; the interior is an attractive and sophisticated room. There is also a small, attractive, area to eat outside in good weather. The chef is now Lia Fallon, formerly of Amarelle and (briefly) of Jeddidiah Hawkins. The food is excellent -- notably scallops, seafood fritters, duck, tuna, lobster cakes, chocolate "mess" (retained from the previous menu). Service attentive and friendly."

  • "This restaurant is a wonderful place to have a good meal, enjoy the comfortable atmosphere and talk with a loved one or friends. It is a real find for the area! Good seasonal menu, nice staff."

  • "We usually go to the Riverhead Project and sit at the bar late night for great drinks and small bites. I decided to take my mom and my aunt for lunch. I wasn't sure if it was gonna be a good fit because it might of been a little too hip and stuffy for them. They loved it. There is a huge lunch menu with lots of options. Lobster cakes were amazing, and my mom had the frittata, she loved it. Fried chicken is always a winner too. I usually order off the lounge menu and was quite surprised on how big the lunch menu was. I will definitely be back soon with my girlfriends. Happy I found a new lunch place to go."

  • "This was our second time dining at the restaurant and it was even better than the first, which was very good. The dishes we chose were beautifully presented, incredibly creative, and the different flavorings and spices were outstanding. The service was professional and spot on when needed. All in all, a great dining experience. We will definitely return and spread the word, as it is great to have such fine dining within close proximity."

  • "The bar has barely any wine and whatever it does have is not good. The food is totally misrepresented on the menu, the description of the dish is not at all what it says it is. The chef is heavy handed with the pepper and when we mentioned it to the server she told us that the chef apologizes for that. No one even approached us about it. The filet was very tender and the mashed potatoes were good but extremely sweet and not edible. I would not even give this restaurant a second try."

  • "Nice décor and beautiful bar/lounge area. Bartenders friendly, and courteous. Once seated, the service was dreadfully slow. I asked for "a minute" to peruse the wine list and then promptly waited 25 minutes before the waiter returned. Once he did, I was told how only certain wines we could get by the glass and certain others by the bottle. We then waited again for the bottle to arrive then we finally placed our orders. We had been sitting for a half an hour at this point. The food took a minimum of 45 minutes to arrive and while I wouldn't call it "cold", it certainly was not "hot" either. The meals were good, not great. The whole dining experience was way too long, and not worthy of the total bill. We won't be returning."

  • "Everything was excellent, food was delicious and had a creative twist, cocktails were amazing and service was excellent. This will be our go to restaurant whenever we go out to wineries. We're very excited to have found a gem of a place."

  • "The food was prepared well, although I was not a fan of the plate pairings. The prices were a bit steep. We were seated next to the fireplace...lovely to view but we were roasting by the end of our appetizer course. Overall a decent experience, but I believe more in great food at affordable prices. $170 for dinner for two is a bit outrageous in Riverhead."

  • "We were looking for a new place to try with friends and we settled on TRP. It was our friends anniversary, so we wanted to go somewhere nice. The place grabbed us as soon as we walked in. I even joked to the hostess, "I hope the food is as good as the place looks". I can tell you, we were NOT disappointed. All of the staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful. Everything we had, starting with the drinks, were great. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience from start to finish. It was a little bit higher in price than we usually spend when out with other people but well worth it. We will definitely return. I think this could be my new favorite place to go."

  • "Great food. Poor service. If you like the night club feel this is your place. If you want to have a conversation it's not!"

  • "Our first experience at TRP proved to be FABULOUS, on every note. The staff was super friendly and courteous and the food was innovative and delicious. Most importantly I enjoyed the feel of the place ,super comfy seating, warm fire and exquisite design. We will definitely return!"

  • "Had 2 wonderful dinners in a row at The Riverhead Project. Think it is probably the best restaurant within 50 to 100 miles of it. First night had the duck -- absolutely fabulous. Second night had the pork chop -- also great. Would say they go overboard in attentiveness however. The pink shirted waiters and busboys are zooming around the restaurant clearing plates (once before my dinner partner had finished) and replacing half full bottles of water at a dizzying pace. Would be more realizing if there wasn't so much activity in motion."

  • "My experience was just okay. I didn't feel very welcome when we arrived and thought the food was overpriced. I guess we just don't fit in the "Hampton lifestyle" but i wasn't very pleased."

  • "The food is outstanding innovative and just plain delicious."

  • "My food was overcooked (eggs & pancakes, fresh fruit wasn't ripe so couldn't eat it). His food was under cooked (eggs & short ribs, which weren't short ribs, it was pot roast cut into cubes). Went there awhile ago for dinner and it was great, pricey, but worth it for dinner. Brunch... not so much. Will not be going again for brunch, ever. Dinner maybe. The best part of the meal was the free popcorn they put on the table. Couldn't get a regular mimosa.... Waitress was a bit creepy too. Don't like people hovering over me as I'm eating or looking at the menu.... NEVER MIND RESTING HER HAND ON MY BACK AS I'M ORDERING!!!! Next time I want a good brunch I'll go to the Center Moriches Diner."

  • "We are not fans of sitting at a table inches from another table of diners we are not friendly with, also the tight tables made it tough for wait staff to pass without brushing both our table and chairs. Food was great!! I love trying different cuisine."

  • "Very good food, high quality by far. Hard to judge service completely, my visit was on valentines day, the busiest and most chaotic day to go out and expect good service. Reserved a 815pm reservation, didn't get sat for an hour. The excuse by the manager was people have been eating and not left since 5pm, not sure if that was truthful or not, but I can see that happening on a holiday. Once sat, the manager gave us complimentary chips and dip within a few minutes since we were waiting for so long. Service was a tad slow, but I still enjoyed the meal. Will deff try again on another occasion to avoid the chaotic valentines day madness."

  • "The place was a wanna be upper east side with modern decor. The food was okay. Nothing to yell about. My husband had meat which honestly looked like dog food in a bowl but he liked it. The meal i had tasted like a can of vegetable soup. The slaw was tasty. U doubt we would go back again except for the bread. Expensive and not worth it but the people who serve are good. Im giving tgem more stars than i think they deserve only because my husband liked the food."

  • "Took my wife here for the first time for valentines day. She has extensive food service management experience and was impressed with the entire experience. Probably the best pork chop dish she's ever had. Service wash rest and the place was laid out nicely. A bit pricey but we knew that coming into the game and you grt what you pay for."

  • "A very disappointing valentines day. Food and service were poor. We ordered the short ribs which tasted like unseasoned pot roast and the Mac and cheese was bland. Seating was cramped, the staff bumped there rear into my back a number of times with no apology. After one hour we received our apps, one hour later our dinners. The server forgot our drink order and had to come back and take it again. This was our second bad experience and I do not know I can give it a third for the money we spend there which is unfortunate because it is so close to our home."

  • "I was not sure what to expect because the restaurant is a converted bank and the location is not great... I was happily surprised with the atmosphere... The food ... And the service which was attentive and helpful .. It is someplace that is unexpected in the heart of riverhead... Definitely would recommend it to all my friends !"

  • "When I arrived right away I could tell the workers were all very friendly. The waiter was always coming around to check on us & if we ever needed anything he was always there. I had the duck & it was so delicious. My friend had the cot fish & it was amazing. I was so pleased that although I had mentioned that it was his birthday on the reservation & I never set anything up officially, they remembered about it & brought out a dessert with a candle for him, which I thought was so nice! Definitely concerned with pleasing everyone. The dessert was so good too, he actually finished it which is surprising because he's quite picky when it comes to desserts. The atmosphere was so pleasant & comfortable, thank you for making it better than expected!"

  • "Hidden away in Riverhead is one of the North Fork's gems. The Riverhead Project has great food, service and ambience, and the owner makes everyone feel like a friend. The cocktail list is top-notch, and with a chic lounge area, this is the place to be this winter!"

  • "Great night at The Riverhead Project. Went with friends who had been there before and it didn't disappoint anyone. Lobster pasta outstanding as was filet and ahi tuna. Apps great too. Pear dessert excellent and not too heavy. Ambience and noise level perfect for dinner with friends, lively enough but not too noisy as to drown out conversation. After some disappointing NYC dinners at high priced places with average food, TRP was everything my friends said it would be. I highly recommend this restaurant and hope they keep the quality and service the same as it was during our visit."

  • "The food was fine, but not as good as the menu at chef Lia Fallon's restaurant amarelle! which unfortunately closed. There are too many fried foods on the menu. I also miss the half-portion option that was given at Amarelle."
