Diner Reviews
  • "Great experience, as usual! Drinks were perfect, food was excellent, service was professional and the way it should be, personal, at reach, and not over bearing."

  • "What an unexpected beauty in old town Riverhead. Simply great decor, great food and great service. We will be back many times for sure."

  • "Lovely restaurant with inventive, imaginative and delicious food. Service was excellent. I'd highly suggest if you're in the area."

  • "To be fair, the quality & service were very good & the decor modern and tasteful. Really liked the cocktails, crab cake & buffalo mozzarella appetizers, all plentiful and delicious. Also, my "rack" of lamb 2 pieces), while not large, was delicious and filling. BUT (size matters), my wife's entree, Lobster Risotto, was shockingly small, a saucer size portion, 1/8 inch in depth. While a small portion of lobster can be expected, this was beyond small. Clearly, adjacent tables were similiarly diappointed. The take away: RESIZE the Risotto portion and if not cost effective charge more $$’s. Don't serve a tiny portion that leaves you stunned and hungry...a real turn off to what otherwise had the potential for a pleasant dining experience."

  • "I've been to Riverhead Project since they opened. It's a beautiful restaurant with outstanding service. The general manager is a gem. My girlfriends and I decided to order an appertizer each and share to main dishes. Steak and the fried chicken (a favorite in the past). We asked how many pieces of chicken their were and were told 3. We said perfect! Well, the pieces were so tiny. It was as if the chicken was cut in 16th's (rather than 8ths). The steak portion was okay. My husband split lamb chops and fried chicken with his friend. If we thought the chicken portion was small, it was HUGE compared to the lamb chops. It seemed that he got the chops but no lamb. Literally, 2 bites and gone. I really don't remember the portions being so tiny."

  • "Came mid week and had prix fixe menu. Food was good but not memorable. Nice to see a good restaurant in downtown Riverhead."

  • " Within the blocky and rather ugly former bank building is an attractive and sophisticated room. There is also a small, attractive, area to eat outside in good weather. The new chef, Arielle Ferrara, is off to a very good start: We enjoyed delicious curry-flavored mussels, very good striped bass, and a truly amazing tandoori chicken. A number of items remain from menus of previous chefs, notably the "chocolate mess." The service is attentive and friendly, and Dennis McDermott is as ever a charming host"

  • "The Riverhead Project has been a winner since they opened. Neat renovated bank that works. Food is delicious, the service is gracious and spot on. Dinner is always a hit, brunch amazing."

  • "The service was excellent, the staff really went out of their way to accommodate us and ensure our visit met our expectations. The food was very good. However, the cost is quite a bit pricey, much higher than anticipated. Those prices may work during the tourist summer season but once the weather turns colder and tourists go home, I don't see locals frequenting this restaurant too often. Great place for a special occasion if you want to splurge but unless you are quite wealthy, even happy hour would be too expensive here."

  • "Very nice meal, good service and a moderate pricepoint (for a restaurant of this quality). We would de4finitely go back."

  • "The Riverhead Project has a new chef since the last time we were here; we were hoping that it was as good as we remembered, and we were gratified to find that it is. The food, service and ambience make it worth a 45 minute drive for us. this is one of the top restaurants on Long Island."

  • "Although the portions are a bit smaller than I would like TRP does a fantastic job with everyday ingredients to create a magical dish. I was truly surprised with both of my dishes."

  • "The food was very good but a bit on the pricy side."

  • "Don't be misled by the exterior that looks like a 60s bad dream. The food is exceptional and the interior stylish and understated. The fried chicken is a stand out - crisp, tender and delicious"

  • "Came to TRP on a last minute weekend escape from the city. I had the steak and my fiancé had the scallops. We also shared the devils food dessert. All dishes were great - my fiancé wished the dessert was larger but I thought with the richness, the size was fine (even to share). I wished they brought bread out before you got your main dish...we were confused and thought they just forgot to give it to us but I think that's their thing. Met the owner and he was very friendly and gave us some background on the Riverhead area. This seems to be a clear choice if you're looking for somewhere nice to go there. "

  • "Love TRP, food is always outstanding and the service is top-notch. Glad they finally upped their beer came and started carrying craft brews, especially on draft. However, there are three breweries downtown and not one is available, which is surprising. Also, the available beers lack in diversity of styles, not a single dark beer is available. Lastly, I yern for the day they will not serve my beer in a cold glass. In any event, i'll be back on Friday!"

  • "It was very nice walking in, great ambience... After that all downhill.. The young hostess seemed inexperienced and could barely walk in her 5 inch heels.. I had made specific reservations which clearly were not looked into so we had our table switched... The service was not great.. Were were always looking around for our waitress, whether we had no drink or needed something... The good portions were small.. Make sure you get bread, appetizer, dinner and dessert or you'll go home hungry.. Nothing special about the food.. Would never go back.. It was the new hype in town, too bad it's not better... Hope this helps pull there loose ends together for the sake of Riverhead!!!!"

  • "The East End of Long Island is notorious for over-priced restaurants with mediocre food and service. TRP stands out and is a wonderful addition, although not technically on the East End. Very good food, fun mid-century decor and outstanding service. I am allergic to garlic, which was noted on my Open Table reservation. Very, very few restaurants pay much attention to this in advance. Not only did TRP note this, but when I arrived, they placed a fully annotated menu at my place. It showed everything I could or couldn't have. I was blown away. That is truly above and beyond and demonstrates a tremendous commitment to guests. I will definitely be back."

  • "It was hard to select something from menu. Ingredients weren't the best quality. Service was slow. Not child friendly decor was very nice though"

  • "Food, service and vibe were all great. Had a group of 8 that grew to 10 and they accommodated us with no problem. Ordered several different apps to share and all were great. Everyone loved their entree as well. Had a couple drinks int he lounge area before sitting and the bartender was very helpful with suggestions and brought all our drinks over very quickly. Will be back again soon."

  • "TRP is the centerpiece of a reviatalized downtown Riverhead. Food gets better every year with exciting new menu items. Don't miss dessert!!! Clientele is an eclectic mix of North and South Forkers. We go as often as we can."

  • "Due to the fact I had written in on open table reservation I would arrive 10 minutes late, a place at the bar was reserved and a delicious meal arrived I. Minutes"

  • "Very accommodating to our needs, we had a toddler with us and they were fine with helping us with our needs. We came on there 3 year anniversary and treated us to glasses of champagne. We will recommend and be back!"

  • "I was extremely dissapointed with the service. I entertained out of town guests and had raved about the food, service and ambience. Our hostess sat the 4 us at the table and passed 3 menus, we had to ask a waiter on the floor for a 4th menu. The waitress at least 10 min to come over to our table.. she took our drink order. 2 of us were sharing a bottle of wine , our guest had cocktails. The cocktails were served and our wine did not come for another 15 min. Our food was very good, but our waitress did not come back for second cocktail orders until we flagged her down. The experience felt very much like a mediocre restaurant were one goes for a quick in and out meal, not quite the dining experience we expected. "

  • "Nice restaurant but when we receieved our pasta I did a double take? What? That's it? Everything is a la cart which is annoying. Didnt even get a salad with dinner. I also felt like they were rushing us a little and it wasnt cheap. I have to say the food was good but I left wanting more. "

  • "WE like the RJ and there aren't tons of choices so we find ourselves returning but the service is truly lacking, never had a particularly positive experience. Lackluster, not attuned, slow, not engaging. The place just suffers for lack of a real sense of hospitality. I think everyone on the staff should read Danny Meyer's book but of course the leadership has to lead the culture. It's seems unmoored in that respect. Also the wine list is so weak and lacking. There is never an offering of wine by the glass that you can get excited about."

  • " Don't be put off by the blocky and rather ugly bank building; the interior is an attractive and sophisticated room. There is also a small, attractive, area to eat outside in good weather. The chef is now Lia Fallon, formerly of Amarelle and (briefly) of Jeddidiah Hawkins. The food is excellent -- notably scallops, seafood fritters, duck, tuna, lobster cakes, lamb, chocolate "mess" (retained from the previous menu). Service attentive and friendly."

  • "Nice place, good service, good food, cool interior decor. Beermosa was interestingly good...NYC prices but maybe worth it. Different from what you would normally find in the area. Had Mothers' Day brunch, they should of had a prefix menu. "

  • "Three of us ordered the lobster omelet, but were unable to detect any lobster in the omelet. Otherwise, they tasted fine. The wait staff has improved drastically since I ate here last year."

  • "My girlfriends and I try to meet every 6 weeks or so for dinner. This was on my must do list and we all enjoyed it immensely. What took us so long to try it? Food was presented and prepared beautifully. Waitstaff attentive and informed, great music. Would love to hang out in the vault sometime. A little more expensive than some local places bit worth it. Fresh food cant be beat. Any negative reviews posted must be from grumpy people. Try it, it's a gem in Riverhead."

  • "Dining at The Riverhead Project was just that, a project. The place was almost completely empty and we were ushered to a table with a speaker directly over it. Loud Techno music was piped in. I begged the server to turn it down. He said he couldn’t nor could we move. For an appetizer we ordered fried olives-excellent. The main course-deplorable. We chose their pasta dish. It was served in a large bowl with a cup of pasta in the center. It was tossed in a pesto which was 95% oil with some peas and pignoli nuts. It did have some tasteless cheese shredded on top. All for a $25! My advice to you is-why do this to yourself. It was pretentious and overpriced. Save your money"

  • "I've had the opportunity to dine here a few times, it's notable that in an area devoid of great restaurants this one is a NYC-quality gem. Smart service, thoughtful, tasty dishes and a solid wine list are particular high notes. I LOVE the space, a working Bank that was bought and converted, with lots of material reuse. Think "Mad Men" meets "Seasons 52". Check out the original Chemical Bank floor, and go downstairs to see the vault and safety deposit room. Strongly recommend this place if you find yourself out that way! "

  • "If you're looking for a good restaurant for a business meeting or even casual dining, The Riverhead Project is a great "find". The seafood fritter was excellent as was the duck quesadilla. The service is absolutely wonderful and the decor is "a little bit of Manhattan in Riverhead". I'm recommending this restaurant to everyone heading out East."
