The Ritz RestaurantChickenless!We spent our 2013 Mother's Day at The Ritz. The location and style of the restaurant was just what we were looking for! Great vibe with a 1920 feel and wonderful decor. Our first course (Mixed salad) was perfect could not of asked for anything more. I was disappointed to find no chicken or vegetation option on the main course menu. Unfortunately the kitchen was unable to substitute chicken for any of the fish or red meat and I ended up with plain pasta :( . Not what I was expecting for the 55 dollar price tag. Such a shame that Donald Bren wants to give them the boot in favor of his favorite designer building and a spa. I was served the berst Osso Buco I've ever had and the wait staff is knowledgeable on all fronts. I always recommend it to my friends. I always was sitting inside, but my friends like the outside patio as well . I like the live music. Richly decorated with a very comfortable feeling and a wait staff that is second to none. For a special event, we went for a birthday, or any other time this is a great choice. The menu is varied, and they have pre fixe choices also that are a good value. I started off with the Ritz egg which is truly a masterpiece of deliciousness, then I had the evenings prix-fixe meal which was salad, prime rib and dessert, each round was truly inspirational. With restaurants coming and going every year, that says a lot.
My partner and I celebrated our 32 anniversary there and everyone from the hostess to the wait staff sincerely and respectfully congratulated us. The manager made a special effort to come by our table and make sure everything was perfect.
The crab, shrimp and lobster appetizers were amazing with big chunks of seafood. Both our steaks were cooked to perfection. Souflee was wonderful.
Everything about the evening, the food, the ambiance and the service was outstanding. I can't think of anything that could have been better.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMLost Its Lease but not Its VitalityThis long-time restaurant has lost its lease and must move within the next year. That fact hasn't made the place less of a magnet in any way. It's, I venture to say, a neighborhood gem set amid burnished high rises near the Newport Mall and around the corner from the Orange County Museum of Art.
At one o'clock on a Thursday afternoon, tables inside were filled with men and women "taking" business lunches galore as well as outside retirees of both sexes laughing and carrying on. The seasoned, experienced wait staff seemed to know everybody. If they didn't, they made you a friend on the spot.
