The Rieger Hotel Grill and ExchangeUnusual choicesMenu features goat, rabbit, offal, etc. Had goat and dining companion had rabbit. Both were excellent.
Only issue was lack of parking - their lot was full by 6:15 on a weeknight.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWill definitely be backLoved our experience here! came here for my birthday. Had a few drinks and snuck down to Manifesto for a cocktail as well. Our server was fantastic and the place was a lot of fun. Parking is a bit tricky, just watch where you park but if you have a special occasion or just want to try something new/old this is definitely the place!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMOur group tried several differentOur group tried several different entrees and only the catfish disappointed. The goat was a hit! Several particularly enjoyed the pork soup - very filling but delicious. Basil ice cream was unique and enjoyable, carrot cake okay and cookies nice. It was fun to try the cocktails which were creative and enticing - loved the unicycle. Our server (Annie) was one of the best we've ever had in KC.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAt least try onceI chose this place for a date night w/ my husband. The building is so neat, and the menu has very untraditional (for Kansas City) items. Everything from goat to rabbit. We played it safe and got crab and steak, and tried delicious salads that we'd never tried before. Our waiter was very friendly and our food was out w/in 15 minutes of ordering.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a KC Dinner DestinationAfter discovering The Rieger (a friend took me), it has swiftly taken over the top ranks for dinner while in Kansas City. The menu is seasonally updated and is always balanced in choices. Even some of the pickiest eaters can find something to eat. The pairing are thoughtful and the sides are well prepared. I have now had the goat and the chicken dish while tasting the steak and the vegetarian (created nightly) dish. If you have time start the evening downstairs at the speak easy Manifesto for craft cocktails. The beautiful bell is one of the best cocktails I have ever had.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique menu itemsSeveral entrees on the menu you will not find in many, if any, restaurants, e.g., a rabbit dish. I had an excellent roast duck. Salads are also unique. Ambiance is nice, and service, while not exceptional, was good.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't often see these menu items!Who knew that we could get blood sausage and goat and veal brains all in one meal! And excellent ones at that. Plus a server who was knowledgeable about all.....5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing Food, Incredible ExperienceIf you're looking to take out a special someone on a date: look no further. The food, wine, and ambiance at this restaurant is top notch. I would highly recommend this to both carnivores and veggie lovers. Also, make sure you head down to Manifesto afterward for some creative cocktails.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting and MemorableThird time eating at the Rieger and it was once again an eclectic and unusual menu that delivered. I was at first put off by some of the entrees but after our server explained the dishes, I was interested in trying several. Each of our party had a different dish and each were very happy with the food. Our server was awesome and it was a great evening. Would highly recommend the Rieger!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Restaurant in KCWe have a great experience every time we eat at The Reiger. Everything is perfect. Best restaurant in KC!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellant, as alwaysIt was the second night of the new seasonal menu and of what we had, it was delicious. I had the potato & leek soup and the pork cheeks and my the wife, the spinach salad with rabbit liver and the risotto. All were absolutely amazing. The Rieger Hotel Grill and Exchange is one of our favorite restaurants in town and although we should frequent more often, this is surely a "go to" place for us.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative Food and Amazing ServiceOur server (and I wish I could remember her name) was amazing. She knew every detail of the menu, even though it was new just 2 days earlier. She made suggestions for a gluten-intolerant diner, and checked with the chef on everything ordered. Fantastic service. The menu is creative. At first, there seemed to be something in each entree that I was skeptical of, but I gave in and just ordered something that sounded good (even though it was goat), and the flavors were amazing. The potato & leek soup was outstanding - creamy without being too heavy. My only slight complaint is the same as when this was a previous restaurant - the tables are too close together. I'd return for the service alone, but the food was well worth another visit.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe BestWe are never disappointed when we come. Yes, there are lots of meat items but if you don't eat meat there is plenty of good options other than a salad. The vegetarian entree special is always well thought out with such good flavors. The chef used in season veggies and some local mushrooms which I loved. This is our favorite place to go. The wine is fantastic as well as the mixed drinks.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday Bliss!!We celebtated my Birthday and The Rieger was spectacular in every way!! They allowed us to go down to Manifesto and got us seating without a reservation, then we were seated at a nice booth and our service was excellent!!! The food was knockout good!!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMHistoric building. Good varietyHistoric building. Good variety of food choices. The goat entrée was excellent.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMI had the oysters rockefellerI had the oysters rockefeller for appetizer. Whatever they did with the bread crumbs didn't work. They weren't the crisp topping they were supposed to be. My husband ordered the meat tray and that was delicious. The cheese spread.was light and tasty and the fig jam was to die for. Crostini was perfect and the melding of the three was a mouth party. Entree was fish and spinach for me. It was too bland for me and the spinach was bitter. My husband ordered the pirk shank and it was perfect. Service wss superb. Our server, Andi, was attentive without being obtrusive. I loved the ambient light filtered through the leaded glass windows. It was a fun evening capped off with great drinks in the bar brlow, Manifestos.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAn enoyable mealA very enjoyable meal. We've added the Rieger Hotel Grill and Exchange to our pre-theatre dinner options.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a lovely evening atWe had a lovely evening at Rieger. Interesting menu and well prepared food. The argula salad was excellent with really pepper-y argula. Pasta with braised lamb necks was the favorite of the table. Crispy lamb shoulder special was good and chocolate dessert special was eagerly shared by everyone. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Meal was well paced to allow for a lovely, leisurely dining experience.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSnout to tail sort of place.Snout to tail sort of place. We loved everything about it and plan to return when we're in KC.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic...great place toFantastic...great place to spend time and enjoy great food4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently astoundingI know I should stop being surprised at how great the Rieger is--it certainly wasn't my first visit. Time after time, Chef Hanna turns out dishes that are as imaginative as they are amazing. The dessert special that night (pistachio bread pudding with Irish Ale ice cream and caramel) was probably the best dessert I've ever had in my life. Wow.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was great. Kara,Everything was great. Kara, our server, was awesome, and the rest of the staff was very gracious and accomodating. I took a friend, who doesn't eat sweets, there for her birthday and they put together a special cheese board for her for dessert. Oh yeah, and the food was delicious!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful, imaginative menu.Wonderful, imaginative menu. Older hotel restaurant with great ambiance. The bartenders are mixologists with an expansive repertoire. Will definitely be back for another enjoyable evening!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMRyan our server was awesomeRyan our server was awesome and he made it very special for us. This was our 10th year anniversary and we would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a very nice ambience, fantastic service, and great food. Very attentive staff and quite impressed I may say. To us, the food really doesn't make a place if the service is substandard, give this one a try and you won't be disappointed! We felt very welcome and comfortable too as a GLBT couple.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMImaginative, well executedImaginative, well executed food all around. The pork soup is amazing, rich and complex without the grease you'd expect from pork. The house made sausage was tender and delicious. Service is outstanding, and I love the restoration of this beautiful old building.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA Must Eat for Foodies!I was on a short trip to Kansas City and HAD TO GO to the Rieger TWICE!!! They have this amazing salad there, with smoked trout and happiness inside. My server was very very attentive and the atmosphere is lovely. The restaurant features a full liquor bar and open kitchen. I would recommend it to anyone in town!3/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
