Friendly greeting, excellent service, wonderful drink offerings, enticing menu, and a sense of history in this old hotel setting. Appetizers are creative and tasty. Soups and salads are delicious. The mains continued with the excellent food. Desert was outstanding. Overall such a tasty and fun experience. And, the basement has a totally separate 'speakeasy' type setting. Reservations seem needed for that. Rieger is becoming our favorite KC restaurant.

Our first time to The Reiger. As a former Kansas Cityan, coming "home" was made even better by this meal! Our server Becky was outstanding. At one point she brought note to being relatively new, and I was shocked. Her professionalism was one of a seasoned server who couldn't have possibly been better. Thanks to her, Colby, and the other servers, we never needed or wanted for anything. Brock and the bartending team made us some outstanding cocktails and even helped us with our wine pairings for the incredibly unique entres. Matt, Steven and Gray in the kitchen, you rock! One of the best meals I have eaten in years. The entire team at The Reiger executed our dining experience perfectly. Even the host greetings/goodbyes made us smile!

On the new menu, get the goat. Trust me on this. Or the rabbit. Or the lamb ribs. And the tomato risotto. Lol! Get the picture? You really can't go wrong. We are all craving the goat so badly that we are going back this Friday again!

Down to every last detail, the Rieger serves the best meal, consistently. I think that ever since they stopped serving lunch, they set the bar even higher, making dinner the focus. The Porchetta appetizer was what all pork dreams are made of. The cabbage roll packs more flavor in every bite than a vegetable has a right to. Their desserts have never been better. I always enjoy great service there, esp Sienna. Check out their happy hour for inspired craft cocktails and light bites.

So I begin to rate my restaurant experiences with the simple "special instruction" of 'Have a hand drawn unicorn ready when we sit down at the table." BOY THE THE RIEGER DELIVER! Not only did we have the best unicorn picture on the face of the planet BUT the food was good and the service was perfect.

Recently, my wife and I took my parents to the Rieger. They were back in town for a high school reunion. They have been away for 30 years, so they haven't seen how Kansas City has changed. Also, I was reluctant to take them because they are used to eating as mom and pop diners in a Florida retirement community. Betwenn the friendly, entergized staff and the perfectly executed food, this is experience was one that both of my parents said that this experience was the best that they've ever had in Kansas City. What a great way to introduce my parents to the new Kansas City food scene vs. the day when The Herford House was the place you used to take out of town guests. I highly recommend The Rieger for fun nights and special occasions.

The lobster bisque was not great, the pork soup was YUMMY, prime rib was good – they tried too hard with the with sauce on the top. I asked them to box up my leftovers and they never gave them to me. I asked for a chardonnay - it was NOT chardonnay although the waiter said it was "like chardonnay". Then I got the bill and it was $12 a glass, which seemed high and I did not even get what I wanted. Building is cool - seems like a good nightlife spot, wait staff was great. Overall, just “good” not “great”

We've been wanting to visit the Rieger Hotel for a long time, and finally got the chance this week. The food was good (esp. the veal sweetbread. delicious!) but a bit underwhelming (the rabbit my husband ordered had a disproportionate amount of breading to meat, and the potatoes with my pork chop were quite over cooked so they were thick and crunchy). The drinks were inventive and we enjoyed them a lot, and the bartender was very gracious telling my husband (who has a huge interest in whiskeys/bourbons/scotch) about the different whiskeys on the menu. Staff was great and we'll certainly go back.

We have never been disappointed at this place. Its become our place to go before downtown events (symphony, etc). Food is creative, well prepared and service is excellent. Staff is very efficient, helping each other out so that dishes don't wait on your particular server to make it to the table. Restaurant supports local growers and use of fresh ingredients. Always an interesting crowd, becoming more so as the evening goes on. Not keen about the small, close tables, NY style, which makes conversation difficult. Would be nice if they had at least some areas where a modicum of peace and quiet could be enjoyed, but space limitations apparently make that impossible. Perhaps some diners like the elbow to elbow arrangements.

We celebrated our Grandson's Birthday at The Reiger Hotel Grill and Exchange Saturday, September 5, 2014. All in our party liked their entrees, (Rabbit, Chicken, and Lamb) none of us liked the Swiss chard, braised Kale, or pickled jalapenos that came with the entrees. The Pork soup was very good. The service was very good. The music was TOO LOUD! The ambiance was as expected, except for the music. All-in-all, my wife and I felt that, although we were happy we choose The Reiger Hotel for dinner, we probably wouldn't return.

We've been here before and enjoyed but this time the experience was disappointing. Food was good but not memorable. Love the look of the dining room but noise was excessive ( background music was overriding ability to converse). Finally service was below standards. He wasn't able to answer questions about menu. Cleared plates before we were finished. It will be awhile before we consider returning.

Drink service was slow, especially for a half-empty restaurant. This didn't seem to be any fault of our server, who was very friendly. There also was a private party in the other room, which surely impeded service speed. Only other thing worth mentioning was I expected my Salmon special to be cooked medium rare, as most higher-end restaurant salmon I've had is. This was cooked all the way through. Still moist and flavorful with a nice crispy skin, just not cooked how expected. And that may be the way the Rieger normally serves their fish. No real complaints, just a couple things I thought worth mentioning

I was surprised how much food we had on our plates. My husband and I ordered the special salmon and the special veal. Both were delicious and we got a real portion. The desserts, honey pie and s'mores custard, were also tasty and good sized. The Rieger was definitely a good value for upscale dining. My only complaint was that it was a little loud for my liking. Other than that, this is a very fun place to eat.

We took some friends to dinner to celebrate a special occasion, and enjoyed our evening so much! While this may seem odd, the food item that everyone absolutely raved over was the sweet potato soup! My husband, who knows his way around a beautiful medium-rare steak, couldn't stop talking about how delicious his KC Strip was. The peach polenta cake was one-of-a-kind and very tasty. I loved the ambience of Rieger, but I was disappointed in the food. I ordered the fried rabbit which came with a buttermilk biscuit and corn on the cob. The rabbit meat was tender, but I had a problem with the breading. It reminded me of something I used to eat as a child at the local pizza dive that I now find disgusting: chicken fries. The entire dish was heavy and one-note. The corn was rubbery and old. The biscuit was delicious and was the best part of the meal. We also ordered fried green tomatoes which were better than my meal but still not up to what I had expected. We had s'mores custard for dessert which was delicious. The graham cracker crumble on top had a perfect crunch. The service was great, but I expected more from the food.

I've been a fan of The Reiger since they opened, but the evening I took guests, Mr. Reiger dropped the ball. Our tentative waiter said the menu was new and being tuned - uh oh. Starters were good, mains were mediocre. The salmon special was dried out, perhaps due to our long wait between starters and mains. My rabbit dish (others rave about it) was a strange plate concoction that just didn't work. One rabbit piece was like a 3pm fast food chicken strip and the thrown-in jalepenos were inexplicable on this dish. Trying to save face, I suggested desserts. When I eat dessert I want to feel guilty pleasure. After the peach-polenta crumble, which resembled a fast food biscuit, the only guilt I felt was suggesting Reiger in the first place.

I've been to the Rieger many times, and it never misses a beat. Every dish has something about it to make it surprising and better than you thought it could be. For instance, we ordered the buttermilk panna cotta for dessert. It had all the smooth vanilla creaminess you'd expect, but it also had flecks of pepper. Gave it a pop and sparkle that was just incredible. Thanks, Rieger. All great.
