Diner Reviews
  • "I have been to Revelry on several occasions - dinner, brunch, theme, drinks. In each case, I walk away not being able to say what was the best part of my experience, or the meal, because it is all extraordinary. Each time has been different and equally wonderful. I have made recommendations to and brought several different friends and everyone, without exception, says, "This is the best meal I have had anywhere." And some of these people have traveled the world. I could go on specifically about the creative menu, the knowledgeable and attentive staff, the personalization...... Suffice to say, Revelry will always be my 'go to' place. Every experience is new, yet familiar, and always exceptional on every level. "

  • "Love the concept..... trying to be different, outside the box. For example, you won't find your run of the mill drinks - no Grey Goose. Tried the Vega and it was to die for! Pride themselves on being unique. Decor is beautifully redone old building in a nice part of town. Food was excellent but portions were small. The duck tacos were amazing! Bar scene is hopping, but makes for a noisy dinner if you're on the first floor. Ask for the second floor if you're looking for a quiet dinner. Overall, a very nice addition to Rochester's restaurant scene."

  • "My guy and I took a friend here for his birthday, and it could not have worked out better. He loved it, and we got to enjoy yet another fantastic meal with equally fantastic service!"

  • "Took my girlfriend here for her birthday, recommended by one of my family members. The service both at the bar and by our waiter was excellent and the food was absolutely delicious. If coming here for either the fun atmosphere found at the bar or you're just looking for an amazing meal, you can't go wrong here."

  • "The service was fantastic. The drinks were great and the ambiance was fabulous. However, the food was just okay. I am not in a rush to go back especially since it was pricey too. Glad we went, tried it but many more to try...."

  • "We started our Sunday Funday here and it was great! The chicken and waffles is beyond incredible and only made better by the delicious cocktails! My group will definitely be back soon!"

  • "Unfortunately the halibut was overcooked and inedible, so they graciously removed it from our bill. The hen dish was fine, no complaints. Getting a cab back to our hotel was a hassle. Not in a hurry to return."

  • "Whatever you select - it will be delicious! The Revelry is my neighbourhood restaurant, and a huge portion of the staff is from Buffalo (where eating and drinking and hospitality and being a Good Neighbour is endemic to life) so perhaps I am a bit biased BUT it is comfort times 100. I have eaten at the bar (alone), been surprised for a birthday brunch by my best friend and her 3 kids (ages 6-17), had lunch with business associates, dinner with dates, and simply hung out for drinks at the bar with friends - it is no small thing for great food and ambiance to bridge such diverse partaking and The Rev staff does so BRILLIANTLY! ENJOY!"

  • "We had a wonderful dining experience at Revelry. The service was timely - not too rushed but did not have to wait long. The food was delicious, enjoying both the scallop and salmon dishes. The presentation of the food was absolutely beautiful with colors galore. We felt welcomed and will certainly come back again."

  • "Our waitress was very attentive and paid attention to our time frame since we had theater tickets and needed to leave by a certain time. The food was very good and we loved the way the building was rehabilitated. I would recommend this restaurant."

  • "Charleston cuisine and attention to service flourishes beneath Rochester's steady snowfall and the city is better for it. Our dishes were creatively prepared and a delight to the eye. Every staff member we encountered was gracious and professional. We left Revelry feeling well cared for."

  • "Entrees were excellent, wine servings (by the glass) generous; attentive wait staff who knew when to leave you alone. Only complaint was the noise level on a Friday night--a bachelorette party at the bar below made it difficult to carry on a conversation. Attracts a young crowd; we four retirees in our 60s were the oldest people there. First visit, would return on a quieter night."

  • "My husband is in the restaurant business; we are both enthusiastic foodies. This was, by far, the best meal we have ever had out in Rochester. In fact, it stands out as one of just a handful of really excellent dining experiences either of us has ever had anywhere! The cocktails: signature gems. The food: every bite was exquisite. The menu: adventurous, creative, but the non-foodie will still find things to love. The wines, while expensive, are perfect pairings for the food. And the service excellence frankly blew us away! It's hard for my guy to go out and not notice all of the little annoying things that wait staff do (or fail to do). This staff is expertly trained and attentive without being invasive. We wanted for nothing."

  • "After a not so great dinner experience (long wait for a reserved table, mediocre food, distant server) decided to give brunch a try and see if it was better. We made a reservation and this time we were seated immediately. The server was very attentive and nice, someone consistently stopped by throughout the meal to ask if we wanted more coffee or to fill the water. The food seemed to be taking a little longer to come out than one would expect but the owner compensated by giving us an appetizer which was really nice and delicious. The food was worth the wait. I would go back there for brunch especially once it's warm out because you can dine outside."

  • "We received a very warm welcome from the host, but were led upstairs to a drafty table against a window. The noise level was quite high, and the overall atmosphere was interesting but not welcoming. The shrimp po boy and burger were quite tasty, but the sandwiches were served without any garnishes on the plate. The deviled egg appetizer was almost tasteless though the waitresses preparation description sounded quite elaborate. The poutine was overly salty and arrived at the table cool. If I return, it would be to try the wonderful sounding cocktails. This was a very pricey somewhat ordinary meal."

  • "A great new place on University Avenue which is hip and trendy, but also considerate of those who want to be able to converse at a table. Music can be/ and was turned down in the upstairs dining room to accommodate the clientele who wanted fabulous food AND fabulous conversation. Highly recommended."

  • "From the moment we arrived, our experience was really outstanding. We had a drink at the bar and asked the bartender to "surprise" us, as we aren't really cocktail drinkers. His choices for us were delicious. He was personable and fun! After about half hour, was time for our dinner reservation and we were escorted to our table. Our server, Ted, was great. He was knowledgeable and offered great recommendations for us. Also had a great sense of humor. Everyone we encountered at the Revelry was helpful and happy. Great team-work. And the food was fantastic. Really different menu and we were pleased with every single plate! We will certainly be returning!! Way to go, Revelry!! :-)"

  • "Bar experience was good, bartenders very into the perfect cocktail and customer service. They earn their tips. We went for Birthday celebration, very good but very pricy not a place I will go to often just for a special occassion."

  • "I had celery root soup and biscuits. The soup was delicious, beyond what I expected. The cheese spread and smoked butter complemented the biscuits nicely. My dining companions were very happy with their meals as well. The finisher - the housemade pecan sandies - were a great treat to end the meal."

  • "Ambience is trendy and stylish; I was pleased to see a nice variety of hip 20-60 year-olds. Be forewarned: Selections are limited. Portions though tasty, are small. Prices on both drinks and food are exceedingly high for Rochester. Wait staff was intrusive and ruined my evening by rushing my meal -taking experience. If I were to return, I would just sit in the bar or on a nice day enjoy the outdoor patio."

  • "Dinner was great! All four of us loved our meals and drinks. Jim, manager, was fantastic friendly and personable. Our waiter Paulie was top notch- we would request him again. The bartender was wonderful ( so sad to have forgotten his name). He made our two guests that arrived early welcome and quenched their thirst -they drove in from Boston. Dinner portions perfect with just the right seasonings and presentation. The chef should be congratulated for job well done. We look forward to dining there often-can't wait for outside dining once weather changes."

  • "the Bar service seemed very slow, only one Bartender seemed to be making drinks for both the bar and the tables. They were good well made drinks but at $10 each they should be. The menu is limited and the portions seemed very small for the high price. My wife had a fish Entree that was almost $30 and the piece of fish was smaller then a McDonalds fish patty. I had a burger that came with "frites" the Burger meat was All natural blended ground beef, but unless it contained 20% farm raised panda and the fried were cooked in Unicorn oil there is no good reason for the $16 price tag, plus it seemed really greasy. Maybe I'm old school but I expect morte for my money than small portions and fancy food descriptions"

  • "No bread was served before ordering. We shared beet deviled eggs for an appetizer, and they were great! The vegetarian menu is very limited. For entrees, they have only Hoppin' John, which I make at home for about 1/10th the price. My wife had the lamb shank, which she loved. The house wines were mediocre. Excellent staff. Lovely ambiance. Save it for a very special occasion."

  • "We eat out often and Revelry was quite a find. The menu was especially crafted for Valentine's Day and my husband and I were in for quite a experience with some of the choices. From mixed cocktail to appetizer to dessert we enjoyed the offerings. Not only was the food prepared well and served at the appropriate temperatures, the presentation was beautiful. The ambiance was enjoyable with an exciting energy. We will return soon to sample something from their regular menu."

  • "I just recently became aware of Revelry and have already visited twice for lunch. I enjoy the atmosphere and the food has just enough of an eclectic touch to make if fun without overdoing it. The burger is my choice but the shrimp po boy salad was also good. I have had the same waiter both times and "Sean" was outstanding. I truly enjoyed myself and I'm sure I will be visiting again shortly"

  • "Have eaten here a couple of times at lunch. Great service, lovely ambience, excellent food. Not inexpensive, but appropriate for a superior meal. Steak Frites was a large juicy sirloin. My wife had the devilled eggs (colored pink for valentines day). I think I chose better."

  • "I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. Definitely a place of that prides itself in everything they offer from the ambience to the classy and original cocktails and topped off with a fantastic dinner fit for foodies and those who simply appreciate a quality meal. Upon walking into the revelry we were greeted by one of there finest bartenders zach (he is an awesome mixologist) who made me and my girlfriend one of our favorite drinks in Rochester, the "honey pot." Fried oysters and poutine appetizers are phenomenal It's southern fusion at its best and I will be returning frequently!!! Special shout out to our awesome hostess Anna and our waiter dave who took excellent care of us throughout the night. Five stars all around!!,!"

  • "We loved the ambiance. Simple yet elegant but we felt completely comfortable. We shared the housemade donuts. They arrived hot and perfectly fried. We were also given the beet deviled eggs compliments of the house. They were amazing. A ramped up version that we will definitely order next time. Service was impeccable. Attentive and friendly. Very efficient without being robotic. We ordered chicken and waffles and the chicken sandwich which was the special of the day. Whoever paired chicken and waffles was a genius. Local maple syrup, fluffy waffle and the best fried chicken. The sandwich was delicious. The stars of it being the chicken and the bacon. We will go back for dinner. A lot. :-)"

  • "Pricey and well worth it. Wonderful atmosphere with rockin music from bar below and easy talking levels in upstairs dining room. Well-staffed in both number and quality of service. Cosmopolitan feel. Incredible food!!!!"

  • "We went on a Saturday. The food was ok however the price is very expensive for what you get. The menu is also full of non-traditional food and alcohol. It was an overall enjoyable evening but you can not go in expecting food that you would normally eat."
    Dined on 1/29/2014
  • "Dinner was good, however, the lighting was very dark. This made it difficult to read the menu. During spring/summer it would be fine, but in the dead of winter it could be a touch lighter."

  • "upon arrival we were taken immediately to our table where we were acknowledged and waited on promptly. everyone introduced themselves by name. several servers complimented one another by stopping by our table and servicing our needs before we had time to ask. not an extensive menu but certainly adequate. the food was very good and the service outstanding but not imposing. I look forward to returning."

  • "The ambiance was loud and trendy and the menu had many good options for a vegetarian like myself so everyone should be dining out at this restaurant for good food, great service, with great people."

  • "We went on a Wednesday night, day 2 on their new menu. The food was great, as was the presentation. I had heard good reviews on the duck, so my dinner companion had that. I got to try a bit and it was great. The space can be a bit loud, especially on the first floor. It's pricy by Rochester standards, but I wouldn't flinch at the prices if I were in Chicago or New York. And, the restaurant feels like it belongs in one of those cities."
