Greg Baker and the Refinery staff are committed to utilizing as much as possible from local farmers and suppliers who do it right. Sustainably and ethically right. Then we refine this already beautiful product into something even more amazing and we change it up every week.

We use chipped plates, jailhouse silverware, mason jars and we have a Jackalope in our dining room. Come eat, drink and confabulate. Continued

  • "I had my family visiting from out of town and I chose to eat at the Refrinery since I had been hearing a lot about it lately. All of the food was wonderful and our service was exceptional. Drinks were never empty; the server was charming and friendly but not intrusive. The food was also wonderful. Our steaks were cooked perfectly and my mother who is usually a rather picky eater loved everything. For once, to my disappointment, there was nothing to box up and take home."

I was not sure about this when I read the menu, some items appeared to be unusual combinations, but the Chef definitely knows what he is doing. just the right combination of fresh food prepared to perfection. No one have anything to complain about - only compliments! I love the fact that they focused on a limited menu of seasonal items. Slo Down Wines was also there the night we dined - what a unexpected treat! Have to try Vladamir Poutine if on the menu - great vegetarian dish"

  • "My husband made our reservation based on the menu he saw online; by the time we arrived 8 days later, the menu was changed almost entirely and, though there were meat dishes, the emphasis was on vegan, GF-free, tofu, etc. We decided not to stay for dinner, but did get an appetizer of duck wings, which were VERY salty. The menu is extremely limited, since it changes so often. Best advice: check the menu online before going."

  • "Food interesting, innovative, not always on target (please lose the grapefruit with the delicious sweetbreads & excellent mustard sauce). Also dessert parfait thing with baked apple was neither mouth friendly nor very tasty. But curried lamb delicious, wished there'd been bread to sop up the excellent sauce, and pattypan squash large plate was declared one of the most delicious vegetable dishes ever by fellow diner who is not a big fan of vegetables or squash. But tile floors, dark wood tables & chairs, dark walls, strange curtain dividers on wires, low lighting, visible storage stuff etc. just felt institutional & lacked warmth. A good restaurant designer could do wonders & create an ambience worthy of the food, as the basics are fine."

  • "We arrived a few minutes early of our reservation, and were seated quickly. We had the duck wings, the hangar steak, and the chocolate peanut butter tart, and it was all amazing. Our waitress Kelly was great, and the everyone seemed to enjoy their jobs. They have a list on the wall of all of the local farms and suppliers they source their food from. I can't rave enough about this place, and I can't wait to go back!!"

  • "Limited resources prevent us from eating out often, so when we do "splurge" it HAS to be good. I've longed to dine at The Refinery since it's inception, and finally we took the opportunity while a close friend was visiting. My wife, our friend and my oldest daughter joined me for what turned out to be a very memorable evening. The service and food were nothing short of outstanding, and the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. While we each have fairly developed palates, we all experienced flavors new to us, and sharing the four different entrees we ordered made for a rich and varied experience. The Refinery was everything I expected and more! Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Seating is limited and very tight. Menu is limited, but they accomplish what they set out to do with the food. We were asked to give up our table shortly after we finished dessert. We were told we had been at the table for quite awhile and there was another reservation waiting. We were offered a drink if we went to the upstairs bar. We declined as the bar is not a relaxing atmosphere. I would recommend this place for a unique experience, I don't see us go back again."

I was hoping that the outside of the box cooking would lead to some phenomenal pallet experiences . What I got instead was dinner which seemed like a hodgepodge of food made by someone who had schizophrenic taste buds . The only item that my husband . Guest and I were able to enjoy was the dessert ."

  • "...using the best ingredients the owner-chef finds at the markets. Creative and unusual preparation that focuses on the flavor without masking with sauces. Our group enjoyed fabulous Wahoo, mushroom broth, pattycake squash and burgers. $1.00 off all glasses of wine and beer before 7pm. Setting is an old house with two stories and an outside deck upstairs. Main dining room right off the kitchen so a bit noisy but a very friendly atmosphere."

  • "The Refinery is my favorite restaurant in Tampa. I lived in S Tampa for years and found my self going to the Refinery more than any other S Tampa restaurant, so I moved to Seminole Heights! Now I can walk to the Refinery and eat amazing food by Chef Greg whenever I want. The menu changes every other week, but one thing never changes and that's the amazing staff, food, beer / wine selection and ambiance. If you are in the neighborhood and looking for an amazing place to eat, then the Refinery is your place."

  • "I thoroughly enjoyed my birthday brunch here. I ordered the special (sausage with a apples, poached eggs and biscuits) with a sake mary. both were great. Normally i dont care for bloddy mary's but the sake was very smooth. My guests ordered either the special or the ranchero style plate, and were not really wowed with the rancheros style plate. My girlfriend complained that her dish was too dry. We are going to give them another try, prob not for brunch next time. The staff was very kind, constantly tending the table for drinks and were very formal."

  • "My hubby and I went for our anniversary on a Thursday night. We sat on the deck and our server (Kendal?) was so nice and fun. We got the little neck clams and they were so good! Our food took a while and then the Chef brought us a complementary salad and told us that they apologize but they had over cooked the steak and were making another one. I found the honesty and the fact that they cared enough to do it right before bringing it to us was very refreshing! We got the hanger steak and flounder dishes.. Oooooh man they were DELICIOUS!! Def worth the wait. Thank you for making our 3 year anniversary a memorable one! We will be back for sure!"

  • "We do not live in Tampa, but travel there once a month and look for great dining experiences each time we go. Although we had eaten at The Refinery before, we forgot how AMAZING the food is. We are "Flexitarians" and once we saw the menu, decided to share 3 vegetarian dishes and had duck wings as an appetizer. The rutabagas were a special treat because we don't get to have them often as they are labor intensive to prepare. We love how the menu changes, so we were pleasantly surprised. The service is wonderfully pleasant and the atmosphere very comfortable, bordering on "homey". Now that we've been reminded, it's on our "go to" list when we return to Tampa."

  • "Wife had the roast chicken. Huge portion and easily the best roast chicken either of us has had. Amazing flavor! I had the lamb posole and it was also great. Lamb was very tender and the dish was very unique. We tried both desserts and I really liked the chocolate one. My wife had the apple one and thought it was ok. Needed something else like scoop of ice cream. I really thought the whole dinner was great and will definitely go back."

  • "We went to the refinery for a special dinner and were somewhat disappointed. All the write-ups raved about the food, but I didn't find it all that outstanding. It was very good and unique; not what you will find elsewhere. The pork belly was good, but not great. a little too much fat and the other component didn't have that much flavor. The duck wings were exceptional and were the star of the meal. A wonderful blend of smoky, spicy and sweet. The hamburger was good, but not great. Th hanger steak was also good but not great. I would try it again."
