  • "I took my wife here for her birthday. We had a great time and the food was very good. Our server Joseph was very knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. The food prices are pretty high, but by making reservations online we were about to get a gift certificate to help. Our server also brought us complimentary dessert wine and a chocolate dessert for my wife. Overall it was a very good experience. Thanks"

  • "We were celebrating our anniversary and could not have picked a better place. Our waiter Phil was fun but still professional and helpful. Would do it again..... they have the best Creme Brulee ever. !"

  • "From the moment you walk in the door, you are made to feel special. You are greeted with a smile and then the experience begins. They checked our coats, seated us, removed the menus and offered suggestions. They food was platef well and tasted wonderful. The wait staff was great and very knowledgeable about the chef and even the history of the building. I reaaly cannot say enough about this place, except you have just got to try it."

  • "My husband and I were lucky enough to have time to journey to The Refectory and have a delicious meal. My favorite appetizer is the marble of escargot and then the mussel soup. It is so unusual in flavor but so enjoyable. I had the veal medallion w/ sweetbread sausage wrapped inside of it. I would have enjoyed it more if it was less raw and more cooked all the way around. but it had delicious flavor. I had the mango dessert and highly recommend it even for those who might find mango something that they don't usually enjoy. the way that the fruit is prepared, you won't believe how delicious it is. the one thing I have to take issue with is the bench that we sat on at our booth. it is not comfortable and i wish it was more soft."

  • "Superb service. Very attentive staff without being overbearing. Pleasant atmosphere and amenity. The filets were cooked to perfection though the sauce was a trifle overpowering for my wife, I found it to be quite enjoyable."

  • "Perhaps the nicest evening we have had at this fine restaurant. The new spring menu is a delight. My filet was superb; likewise the fish for my wife. Wine pairings thoughtful and varied. Always attentive, the service was especially nice, having spontaneously arranged an accommodation they knew I needed due to some recent surgery. Easy to understand why we keep coming back."

  • "Five of us celebrated my wife's retirement at the Refectory. The food was outstanding: all were dishes we would not attempt at home. Highlights were the butternut squash veloute (that's soup) and the pear tart desserts. We each had a different entree, and each of us was pleased. Our waiter, Sam, was efficient, friendly and willing to joke with us. Mr. Boulos, the owner, stopped by our table to say hello, and stayed to answer our questions about the history of the restaurant building, a church from the 1800s."

  • "I know The Refectory well and usually enjoy my experience there, although I cannot say that every experience is equally perfect. The ambiance, service, and wine list are superb. The food, however, which ought to be the star, is sometime not up to par as was the case last Thursday evening. My appetizer was perfect, but obviously the kitchen was not pacing the rest of the meal, and by the time the entrees arrived, clearly they had been prepared too soon and and allowed to sit. I know they were very busy that night, but for a restaurant of this caliber, this tends to be the main problem I have faced before there. It definitely can put a damper on what should be a lovely dinner."

  • "We loved the experience from beginning to end! Champagne was amazing, food incredible, didn't want to finish the last bite. Presentation of every plate was spectacular. And dessert...don't pass on the pear tart you will be sorry! Restauran was aware it was our anniversary, when we opened our menus they had a surprise note inside for each of us. That was a lovely sentiment E and outstanding service!"

  • "The Refectory continues to be the best restaurant in Columbus. You are greeted immediately, and they remember that you have been there before.. You are seated at the best table available, rather than stuck somewhere where no one else wants to sit. The waitress was attentive, but not overly so. The menu was diverse, though we experienced again that something on the menu (bison) was actually not available. Then later in the evening we overheard someone else having bison described as available, but in a different dish. They have the best wine list in Columbus, and I highly suggest their Chilean list, unique to this restaurant. The pear tart is excellent for dessert, and they have a full complement of dessert drinks."

  • "Top Notch in all aspects! My wife & I go there on the anniversary of our first date every year & we have zero intention of changing this tradition. The menu forever changes & & there hasn't ever been a time where the food was anything less than exceptional. The wine list is also second to none. Worth every penny!"

  • "I had read very good reviews about the Refectory. It did not live up to them in my experience. The service was attentive but very slow and never had an update as to why. Also, the two most interesting menu choices, walleye and antelope were not available and were replaced by halibut and hamb. I had settled on the walleye dish, I decided to give it a try since the accompaniments seemed interesting. Instead of parsley encrusted, there was a clod of parsley and herbs on top of the halibut and it literally looked like a clump of grass that would come out of your lawn mower. It tasted OK but was disconnected from the dish overall. I wonder if the walleye had actually been encrusted and sauteed. This preparation didn't work for halibut!"

  • "Refectory generally is one of the best restaurant in Ohio. We live in Cincinnati but do not mind driving 2 hours for their First Friday Dinner. We sent some pictures to our son's family, and my daughter-in-law said the plating looks like miniature art pieces. The pork terrine was on the dry side. The Barramundi's meat was sort of mushy, and smell slightly fishy, maybe from being frozen too long. This fish is from Australia. We had it fresh when we were in Sidney, and it actually taste better than Chilean Sea Bass. We however, love the duck medallion with foie gras, it was delicious. The service was attentive, our pot of hot tea was refreshed without our having to call their attention to it."

  • "The Bistro Menu may be the best dining value in the city -- Prix fix 3 course. Our meal was delicious. The veal ravioli outstanding and the presentation most attractive. This is an excellent opportunity for a value conscious diner. Wines fairly priced."

  • "It's always a great evening at Refectory. I took my granddaughter for birthday dinner before Phantom of the Opera. I told her EVERYONE needs to go to the Refectory at least once. When dinner was over she understood perfectly! We weere on a bit of a time crunch to make show time at 7:30 but our servers were very attentive and we even had time for dessert!!"
