We enjoyed a two hour brunch during which the noise level changed from a moderate buzz to obnoxiously loud. By the time we left, the noise was nearly intolerable. But we did appreciate that the noisy folks were having a good time, which somewhat helped alleviate the ear pain. We will return to enjoy the musicians, the wonderfully delicious natural food, and the exquisite service. Yes, despite the noise, we like this place.

The Red Door is a neighborhood gem and a regional destination for farm to table fresh and delicious meals. The chef is very creative, and the flavors are fantastic in every dish. I had the fish and my husband had the steak - both were memorable. The ambiance is warm, cozy and comfortable. There is nice light coming in through the windows that wrap around the corner.

We discovered the Red Door on Restaurant week and are so glad that we did. Arturo and the other wait staff were superlative and anticipated our every need. The food is mainly farm to table and the vegetables come from the owner's garden. We had a lasagne that was delicious and a white manchego fish, beautifully prepared. The truffle dessert was just decadent. I wouldn't recommend the bread pudding as anything special but the creme accompanying it was to die for.

My husband and I made a reservation during SD restaurant week. But we ended up,ordering from the regular menu. Both the burger with fries and the pork on pita were delicious. The waiter was very knowledgeable regarding the wines and recommended a great cab. It was very quiet and the decor is sort of elegant "farmhouse", with nice wainscoting and lovely framed pictures. Overall, a most enjoyable experience. We will be back for dinner soon.

My husband and I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. Very friendly and attentive staff. The Executive Chef Karrie Hills is amazing. There was not one part of our meal that wasnt absolutely perfect. We both ordered the locally caught fresh fish Monchong. It was cooked perfectly. I would eat here weekly if we lived closer.

Must be the fourth time for me at this place. I like it. Food is very good, they grow many of the vegetables they use and also source local suppliers. Service was friendly and very crisp. Noise is usually moderate but on my last visit was energetic due to a noisy birthday party group. The place has an interesting layout.

I thought this place was great. Very cute ambiance and wonderful farm fresh food. The portion sizes were a little on the small side, but the food quality is so good it ended up being plenty! I will definitely try again for dinner as this review is strictly for brunch. The service was painfully slow that morning, but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps they were understaffed that day.

The food isn't as good as it used to be. It's nice that it's farm to table or whatever, but it really needs to look and taste better. I ordered a flatbread that wasn't nearly as good as something I'd make at home. Nobody in our party of 4 was commented favorably on their lunch. They just ate it & moved on. It's a pretty restaurant though.

On a recent impromptu trip to San Diego with my wife and 5 children we decided to stop by the Red Door for lunch . We were apprehensive about whether or not the restaurant would be kid friendly . However upon arrival we were greeted warmly and reassured that while they don't have a childrens menu , they could accommodate the kids with some flexibility . The service was excellent and the food was impeccable . They have quite a good wine list as well. I would highly recommend this establishment and will be visiting again .

The Good: Food. All of our dishes were quite good. The Bad: 25 minutes just to order drinks when waiter finally arrived, we ordered a bottle of the Floral Springs Trilogy (the 1st item on the list) only to be told 10 minutes later, they don't carry that anymore. Ordered a comparable bottle asked for decanter. Waiter poured a glass and spilled 1/4 of it all over table and partly on me. Took several minutes to return to partially clean up wine. I cleaned up remainder. Had to ask twice more for a decanter. Waiter brought wrong appetizer and said he wouldn't charge us. (why would he?) Entrees took an hour to arrive even though several parties arrived after us got theirs first. Surrounded by others who also complained about service.

The food was excellent--try the Fried Green Tomato salad! We also had the mini Banana Cream Pie which was delicious. We had reservations at 7:00 and I found the noise level to be above what I would like--I had trouble hearing my dinner partner who does not have a low voice. There do not appear to be any sound deadening materials in use and it could use a few--especially since the venue is not huge and there are quite a few tables--it doesn't feel crowded, just noisy. We would certainly go back but we would book for earlier.

Had a wonderful birthday brunch this past Sunday. The table was set and ready for our party to arrive which was excellent (have had trouble in the past at other restaurants that didn't get the table ready until I arrived grrr) David our server was sublime. I ordered the spicy patatas, it had great flavor, but the eggs were very runny and there was maybe a teaspoon of actual chorizo. Everyone else seemed to really enjoy theirs.

after reading all the favorable reviews on yelp and the article by the food editor in the San Diego UT, we made reservations. Our waiter was very knowledgable and made great recommendations on what to order. Appetizers (green bean beignets, fried green tomatoes and stuffed squash blossoms), main dishes (lamb and halibut) and dessert (lemon cheesecake, creme brûlée and chocolate souffle) were all outstanding. We all want to go back...one of the best meals I've had in SD!

The service was wonderful. I ordered the fish and the red relish/sauce was very tasty -- but the combination of quick fry then bake -- resulted in a tough over-cooked outer shell and slightly raw in the middle (which actually didn't bother me too much). The flavors of the sauce were great but maybe poaching the fish or some other way to prep it would have helped.
