The Raymond restaurant offers inspired, seasonal cooking featuring the finest selection of ingredients paired with a diverse collection of wines from top West Coast and international producers and hand crafted culinary cocktails produced in our bar, 1886.

The restaurant is housed in the former caretaker's cottage of the storied Raymond Hotel. It is a slice of Pasadena’s historic past and carries on it's great traditions of hospitality and architecture with it's indoor cottage seating and outdoor craftsman style heated patios.

  • "Have been here a few times and love the ambiance. Food is spectacular, lots of interesting combinations, a food lovers heaven! This visit the service was not up to snuff, slow for 8:30 on a Thursday with not so many tables. We waited about 15 minutes with no one even coming over to the table to offer a drink. Finally the waitress came by and when we asked some questions about the wine, she sent the wine buyer over and disappeared for another length of time. We wanted to order since it was late and our guest was hungry. We had to wave her back, not appropriate when entertaining work clients."

  • "Sunday patio seating was lovely, but some confusion between patio tables as wait stations v. patio tables as dining/final seating. So service was very slow as a result. In fact, on the back patio off of the bar, there was no service after 15 mins. so we self-relocated to other patio w/fireplace. Our server was great, very attentive once he was aware that we were there to eat, not just waiting for a table--but that took about 20 minutes (not his fault). Hostess seemed overwhelmed. Ahi sandwich w/sweet potato fries was delicious."

  • "I made a reservation for 2pm and the restaurant closes at 2:30.......wasn't sure since this was the first time eating here if they rush you out once the restaurant closes but no.....our server was excellent. She served us until we left at 3:30 and no feeling of being rushed. The service, food and ambiance was amazing. My Mom and Sister had a drink called Atholl Brose, apparently it was so good they were trying to get every last drop! Love this restaurant and if I lived closer I would be here all the time."

  • "When I made my reservation I asked for a quiet table as my lunch was a business meeting. When we arrived, the hostess confirmed that I had requested a quiet table and then proceeded to put us at a very noisy table situated very close to the diners next to us. We felt as if we were sharing a table with them. Then, right when I thought things could not get louder, they put loud music on over the sound system. It was impossible to talk and be heard. The acoustics in this restaurant is terrible. This is not a restaurant you should select if you want to talk and hear at lunch. It was very loud."

Person pouring coffee and water was great. Would recommend to visit on a nice day, sit outside or in the charming "house" and order the special of the day."

  • "Being a 5-star restaurant demand a pleasant experience from the moment you walk into the restaurant to your departure. The Raymond fails at step 1. There was no clear signage where to check in and there was no hostess to greet us. We walked from front to back and back to front, the hostess was nowhere to be found. The bus boys were expressionless and looked at us as if we were transparent. It must have been a whole 5 minutes before we were able to find the station where the hostess was supposed to be. (We did walk by there the first round but no one was there.) Food was good though and the waitress was pleasant and polite."

  • "We are not regulars and were returning to The Raymond after almost 8 years. We had an excellent dinner there years ago, but the breakfast service was not quite up to expectations. The hostess was cheery, helpful, and pitched in to help the service staff when they weren't attentive; perhaps they were short-staffed but didn't mention it. We started with the grapefruit creme brulee which was nothing like creme brulee, rather a grapefruit with hardened honey on top. A bit disappointing. Our entree was delicious, eggs were cooked well and tasty. The booth window and curtains looked a bit worse for wear and could use a spruce up, however the fireplace was on and it provided that home atmosphere which it always had. We will return someday."

  • "Raymonds was a restaurant that for years you could count on to have an extraordinary menu and a charming atmosphere in an 1880+ period house. No longer, sadly. Their website is undergoing construction it says, well what's going on with the management? We went for Sunday brunch and after being seated by the front door, you felt like you were in a hallway, crowded, noisy, patrons standing and fussing while waiting for the hostess to show. BIG parties were booked for birthdays, dragging in their own cakes, and dressed like they came from playing dorm-football. Grabbing the attention of all servers, smaller parties were ignored. Not the place we remember. Sad, even the house burger and omelet is now in the same league as IHop."

  • "The only area needing improvement is the slow service. Our order was taken half an hour after our arrival. Our food arrived half an hour after that and in two episodes. The interval was long enough that some of my companions were urged to go ahead and start their meal while we waited for part two. The severs were pleasant and accommodating, and have nothing to do with the pace of the kitchen staff. Aside from that, the food was as great as usual and the Raymond is always a special place to dine."

  • "Recently relocated from Chicago, we found The Raymond when we stopped by for a drink one day this fall. When we had friends visiting from Chicago we thought the Raymond would be the perfect spot to go for lunch after a tour of the Gamble House. We were thrilled with our choice. Not only is the 1886 arts and crafts cottage charming with its stone fireplace, English pub bar and garden patio, the food is outstanding as well. Three of us had salads and one the chicken curry, and all loved their selection. Service was attentive, but not overbearing. One of the nicest touches is that the owner, Rob, made the rounds greeting his customers and really spent time talking to everyone. Turns out he too is a Chicago transplant! We will be back!"

  • "The cuisine at The Raymond was excellent, as always.....but I would not plan another special occasion group dinner there unless I am positively guaranteed indoor dining when I have made a reservation well in advance. The new expanded dining section is outside in a tent-like structure which is like being relegated to the garage (indeed, The Raymond Restaurant was originally a house, then a florist, and now it is a restaurant). Since space was so limited in the main dining room of The Raymond (in the house) this new addition was obviously created to accommodate more patrons.....and it is the luck of the draw where you will wind up, even if you have a longstanding reservation and request indoor dining (sadly, there are no guarantees)."

  • "We have been going to the Raymond for years and always loved it, but likely will not go back. The service was very unprofessional to the point of being rude, and the food was no where near the quality we experienced on prior occasions. The apple fritters were stale and re heated -- hard as bricks. We weren't allowed to substitute sourdough bread for the dry, cold toast triangle that came with the eggs; the excuse was that they didn't want to run out of sourdough because it was used in another dish on the menu. Had to ask twice for butter and jam for the toast, but the butter was hard as a rock and wouldn't spread on the cold toast."

  • "I hosted a birthday dinner for my fiancé on a Saturday night in December. We met guests at the lively well appointed Bar 1886. Though extremely busy, bartenders were immediately welcoming. They took orders without delay and delivered exceptionally crafted cocktails which we continued to order while later seated at our table. Our table was set outside by the fireplace to keep us cozy. Though a bit slow to get started, we appreciated that our waitstaff communicated directly with the chef to get orders for young children among our party of twelve. All guests seemed satisfied with the menu selections. Desserts exceeded expectations. Overall extremely pleased with everything. We will plan future special occasions here."

  • "We live in Berkeley, California and took our daughter who lives in Pasadena to dinner. We were a party of four and each of us ordered a different first course and main. Every one of those 8 dishes was outstanding. The Raymond could compete well against any restaurant back home in Berkeley. (Well it might lose to Chez Panisse on food but would beat Panisse on ambiance - a tie.) The wine list was enormous for a restaurant of that size and it was "honest". By that I mean that the vintage year of the bottle that arrived at the table was the same as on the wine list. One can not count on that any more."

  • "I always love going to the Raymond. I am a big fan of the over all experience. This past time, we did a late lunch on Sunday on the patio. I would recommend it overall and our waitress was fantastic. Unfortunately, I heard one of the other staff member making fun of my friends and I as we were there for a while and I guess they wanted to leave for the day. I was pretty disappointed with what I heard and even the waitress was very embarrassed. I asked them if they needed us to leave and they said no. I think it was just an odd moment and perhaps a bad day for the staff member - I would not say it is their "normal welcoming way". I'll go back~"

The food did not appear fresh, seemed like it had been on a counter for some time and brunch with limited menu on that occasion is really not a challenge. We would hesitate to go there again unless the chef and the owners place priority on the quality of the food-which is the only reason we go to restaurants-the ambience has a lower priority."
