Diner Reviews
  • "Made reservations for a Sunday afternoon at 12:45. We were sat at our table in a timely manner. I requested outdoor seating and we were accommodated with that. Service was quick and responsive and we placed our order rather promptly. The only thing lacking from the experience was how long it took the food to arrive. To the credit of the kitchen I will say it was during DineLA week and I noticed multiple very large tables. When the food arrived it was plated nicely and the quality of the meal was very good for the price. We will likely return for dinner sometime and would definitely recommend it to others."

  • "What an eclectic menu! The chicken was absolutely amazing and I will definitely be back again. I have been thinking about my meal since we left! YUM!"

  • "The Raymond has changed write a bit over the years. The food has always been delicious and that remains true. The ambiance however has changed quite a bit. Before it was a quaint little house with a warm romantic feel. There was often a classical guitarist who played quietly in the corner of the main room. They have added a a large covered patio to accommodate more seating. On paper not a bad idea. Unfortunately, it is incongruous with the original house, much more modern "hip" feel. Now the house just feels old and tired. The service lacked as well. We were taken care of in a timely manner but we felt "processed" with no personal engagement. Sadly, we will not return anytime soon."

  • "I hadn't been to the Raymond in a long time, didn't know what to expect. We were greeted by a sweet and genuine hostess who told us that one of the "best" tables was finished and would be clearing out, if we could wait. We did. Gorgeous outdoor seating with a fountain, tables aren't too close, servers were on top of refilling iced tea and water. It's DineLA week, so two of us order a salad first course and their version of BLT. Amazing, huge and flavorful. They use jalapeño bacon! Third person had a steak wrap which was good but mine was better. Owner Leslie personally stopped by and checked on us. Overall, a great midday meal in a beautiful garden."

  • "I really wanted to like the Raymond … really! I'd been there once before and it was OK, but not great. I thought perhaps I had an off-night or they did, so after a year or so we went back. The wait staff was attentive, although too casually dressed. I don't know what this place is going for, menu-wise, but it's all over the map. Lots of Asian influences, some European, some American. Worse, the menu comes off as pretentious, with items like "beef cheeks" and "sea foam" & some ingredients I've never heard of … and I've heard of a LOT. I paid $150 for 2 with no wine, and was treated to a stomach upset soon after that I've now had for 2 days. With so many other great choices in Pasadena for the same money or less, we won't be going back."

  • "The food is always good, the service excellent and the ambiance outside is so restful. They never rush you and the menu has such good choices."

  • "The Raymond doesn't say anywhere on their site that they don't have a bathroom for the disabled. But when I saw it was around the patio up the stairs to a tiny hallway with round knob handled doors.... it was disappointing. The Americans with Disabilities Act turns 25 next year. We have many older citizen, Vetrans and everyday citizen that need these slight modification. And no they don't have a thing called grandfathered to not have to comply. I only bring this up because despite all the well prepared food, nice wait staff, if I can't take my parents here without genuine concern then honesty I would not recommend it to anyone. Its time we stop coming up with excuses & just comply. Guess I expected more from a place that can afford it."

  • "I made the reservation about a month in advance for my parents 48th wedding anniversary, which the restaurant knew about. There were no acknowledgements of the occasion or attentive service that I had expected, especially when paying the prices that one pays at the restaurant. The evening was very disappointing. None of the wines that we wanted were available. The sommelier was not there and when my husband asked our waitress if there was any one else there to help us, she replied, "There's another waitress. I will see if she has the time to talk to you." When there are so many other options available for dinner, is this the response you want? Very disappointing service and the food was fair. Not recommended."

  • "When we first got to The Raymond we were excited..... it was old and charming and just up our alley. We sat on the patio to the right, which was nice. The staff was fantastic, and the food was okay. Nothing extraordinary. My husband had the cobb salad which was good, but not amazing. My son and daughter had a great breakfast egg dish which was with beans on a tortilla with sauce and that was probably the standout item. The pancakes were good but not exceptional and the kobe burger was good as well. So, all in all ......the food was good, but we all said that we wouldn't run back."

  • "We have been coming to the Raymond for special occasions for over eight years, and after this last visit, we will not be back. The food quality has diminished over the years and the wait time to get our food from the time we ordered took over 45 min. And it wasn't even busy that morning. There are plenty of great brunch places in the area - this is not one of them."

  • "As always, the food and service were excellent. Keep up the great work!"

  • "Inside had residual smell of paint until an hour or so after the air conditioning cooled the room. Got a table at the small back patio. Right behind the hedge was the dumpster that belonged to the apartment next door so foul smell occadionslly wafted in when the wind blew. The main patio just outside the entrance is probably best. Disappointing for the price."

  • "I have been disappointed with the Raymond's food quality in the past--especially considering the prices. But 2 nights ago the ciopinno was the best I've had--hadn't had it here before."

  • "Love the ambience of The Raymond, the attentive service and the excellent, creative food choices. We learned to love the Raymond when we worked downtown LA 10 to 15 years ago and often went there for lunches with work friends. This time we went with family for brunch/lunch on the weekend, and found interesting and unusual versions of typical brunch/lunch dishes, all delicious. The Raymond knows how to transform everyday menu items into something special. "

  • "the ambiance outside was perfect and the servers were very kind and on point. We ordered 5 starters which were individually different and delicious. The whole experience was so pleasant and we had a wonderful time."

  • "It had been about 20 years since I last dined at the Raymond. Still Great! Our group sat outside on the patio near the fountain. We all enjoyed our super fresh salads with wonderful salad dressings. They need to put a really big sign where the restaurant is. I missed it twice!"

  • "Very nice old restaurant in South Pasadena. It has a small bar and plenty of outside seating for dinner. We enjoyed our dinner!"

  • "Yummy food. We were there for Pasadena Restaurant Week, and disappointed to learn that the menu had changed since we'd checked online. The chef provided the roasted beet salad anyway, and it was beautiful and delicious. Excellent entrees. The dessert had changed, but I thought the bourbon cake was excellent. (My dining companion doesn't care for bourbon.) The restaurant, in a Craftsman house, has a level entry for handicapped from the parking lot - take the left fork and go up a ramp thru the bar area to get into the restaurant itself. Nice old fashioned wooden booths, but the food is definitely modern, and it's well worth trying to find the place. I recommend GPS or Google maps, both to get in and to get out, which are 2 different routes."

  • "We were 30 minutes early for our reswrvation and were told we would be seated soon. I asked for outdoor seating and at first was told "no". End of story. I asked another person who said she would assist in getting us a table outside. We waited 50 minutes and never got the table outside. Then we had to ask to have table cleaned. Then we waited a while to place order. Ordered 2 mimosas that didn't get served until I asked 20 minutes later. The server forgot. Food very good but service terrible and with a bad attitude. Will probably not be going back "

  • "After having brunch at The Raymond yesterday, 04/27, I may not want to spend time and money here again. I do not think they were well staffed. Hopefully, they can improve on this."

  • "I was looking for a nice restaurant to meet and catch-up with my college roommate on a Sunday morning. This was a perfect place. The service was good. We had a 11:45 am reservation. We both had omelets. Mine had jalapeno bacons, avocado, salsa, etc and my roommate's had shrimps etc. Both were excellent and the portions were just right. The order came with some fried potatoes and fresh fruit also. "

  • "We all love to go to the Raymond and eat in the outdoor patio. It was cool that day, but the heaters kept us warm. The servers are very attentive and are happy to describe the menu and specials. Everyone selected a different item so we could see and taste more."

  • "Don't go in a hurry to eat. Dining was a leisurely two hour experience. The servers were professional, food, drinks, wine, all memorable. I had the mussels and followed it with cioppino. Each piece of seafood was PERFECTLY cooked -- very hard to do, from the scallop to the most tender octopus I've ever had. My companions had hanger steak, duck, and venison and their food was also perfectly cooked. Presentation was excellent. Pricey for us but worth it for the special occasion. I've been to the 1886 bar before but had never ventured into The Raymond itself. Glad I did. "

  • "So glad The Raymond is now open for lunch. The food was perfect and the service attentive but a little slow if you are on a timeline. The flatbread salad in unusual and very tasty. Our waiter was very helpful I. Finding a wine that met my friend's wishes."

  • "Have not been here in years but definitely go back soon. The food was delicious and the menu varied. The four of us had trouble deciding what to eat because everything sounded so good. We each ordered something different and we like everything. The service was just right - not neglecting us but making sure our needs were met. Eating outside was lovely. The Raymond is a hidden jewel that we will visit again."

  • "Have been here a few times and love the ambiance. Food is spectacular, lots of interesting combinations, a food lovers heaven! This visit the service was not up to snuff, slow for 8:30 on a Thursday with not so many tables. We waited about 15 minutes with no one even coming over to the table to offer a drink. Finally the waitress came by and when we asked some questions about the wine, she sent the wine buyer over and disappeared for another length of time. We wanted to order since it was late and our guest was hungry. We had to wave her back, not appropriate when entertaining work clients."
